Didn’t Carney say we were going to make up for declining trade with the US by achieving closer ties with Europe? I guess our manufacturers didn’t get that memo.
The downturn in Canada’s manufacturing sector deepened in June as U.S. tariffs undercut demand, spurring the sharpest cut to output in five years, data on Wednesday showed.
The S&P Global Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) edged down to 45.6 in June from 46.1 in May, registering the fifth straight sub-50 reading. A level below 50 indicates contraction in the sector.
Uhtred to Carney: “Geography is all, Arseling.”
Yeah! He’s gonna show those Yanks a thing or two about independence by trading with the Euro poofs!
Man oh Man! Just wait till he gets those pipelines built through to the planned LNG port of St. Gaston du Peanut!
Heard at my golf course this AM. In the National Post today, some one referred to our PM as “heels up Carney”.
Hint: Don’t ship any goods to Greece until paid in full. Otherwise you might get paid in NONE.
The press missed a big nuance relative to Canada and the European Union. The EU was playing for time and threatening a closer relationship with Canada to stand in solidarity against the US. Then:
1. Canada decides to pop in the Digital Service Tax retroactively. (Probably Carney’s idea)
2. US responds by cutting off any negotiations with Canada, and warning the EU.
3. Canada backtracks and removes the DST.
4. The EU realizing that this isn’t the usual situation they are used to exploiting comes out hours after Canada drops the DST and states that they are now fully open to a 10% going forward tariff (approved by the 27 bloc entity).
5. Negotiation with the EU is no longer about the 10% tariff across the board. It’s about negotiating lesser amounts on pharmaceuticals, alcohol, semiconductors and commercial aircraft.
Short version: It’s all related. Actions taken against one country serves as an example of why other countries shouldn’t think that their usual tactics will work. The EU caved in less than 24 hours after the US served up the back of the hand to Canada. The message was rather clear. Sure, you can team up and try to oppose what’s coming, but that only works if your economy is in good shape, and you have leverage. It’s not, and they don’t (EU and Canada).
Well maybe at some undefined time in the future it was (pick one or all).. stupid, insane, criminal, gaslighting, to think that trade with an already overserved market could turn around overnight. Europe produces virtually everything it needs. Supply and logistic chains are well developed. Contracts are in place between purchasers and suppliers. There are long term relationships. Canada has none of that. It is insanely difficult to break in to a new market against HEAVILY entrenched incumbents and the whole gamut of EU trade restrictions. Carneys magic executive order pen will no nothing.
As a note, although Carney claims to have agreements, I have never seen any documentation of what they are. In contrast, details of all the US agreements are on the Whitehouse website – either as Executive Orders or in the Fact Sheets.
Canadian sheep don’t care, they would rather starve to death in the cold as long as mommy government tells them it’s ok, than accept responsibility, they don’t have the guts. No country on Earth deserves to fail as much as the joke called Canada. Shithole.
Free and open trade with First Nations is the obvious route to financial prosperity for Canada.
Yep roaddog, that’ll show those ‘Muricans we don’t need them. We have our own built in system for success.
