New Governor, Same As The Old Governor

Toronto Sun;

Proactive disclosures filed after June’s G7 summit in Kananaskis show the round table world leaders huddled around last weekend cost taxpayers $258,300.

The table, designed and built by Calgary-based furniture maker Möbius Objects, consisted of a beige finish and included a number of surrounding desks for staffers.

According to the disclosure, Möbius Objects was awarded the Global Affairs Canada table tender in a two-bid competition, chosen on Jan. 15 by Public Services and Procurement Canada due to a “highest combined rating of technical merit and price,” with a June 4 delivery date.

Inquiries to Global Affairs Canada by the Toronto Sun went unacknowledged.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised that Carnage made us taxpayers cover the bill for furniture made like cheap Ikea garbage.

    1. Möbius Objects designs and builds top quality goods, entirely from the likes of oak, cherry, walnut, and I haven’t seen anything like “Ikea garbage” in their shop. Exposed and outstanding joinery from solid hardwoods and no evidence of cutting corners.
It is museums quality goods, a 1 minute view of their website shows… I’ve never seen any of their goods in the local used market, and I’ve looked previously as I’ve re-finished a few hundred vintage teak items over the years.

I’m not defending the dysfunctional gov’t of Canada spending like this, and feel that Mobius being a quality builder would want their goods associated perhaps with the federal or provincial gov’t, including the recent G7 meeting, but NOT with the #Libranos…
I note the selection was made by “Public Services Canada” civil service folks, prior to the Marx Carnage #Libranos being elected.
      19. January 2025 (released 4 days after the decision to buy this table, but likely polled from the week prior..) the Conservatives were polling 45%, the #Libranos at 21%, the NDP 18% and 99% of regulars here at SDA were “generally pleased” with how the federal election was expected to turn out with a solid Conservative majority, with the country mostly on track to a recovery, not another decade of subpar performance, as we are now…

This could have been the Conservative Gov’t spending $258k on a one use table. I’d like to think the organizers of the G7 gave the table away to a worthy user after this meeting, but don’t know of too many charities in Canada which don’t already have boardroom tables. Such is the way while the #Libranos rule us.

I don’t have room for it, but I’ll find room for it while I re-build it into desks if someone knows who to contact lol…

      1. As well, note that “Encore Global Events” was awarded 3x the amount spent on the desk, for something called, “branding” which to me sounds a lot like “talking” or making a sweet design for said event.

With nothing lasting, just “talk” …

There’s the misspent money, right there.

  2. It could have been WORSE! Your leftie government could have $$Paid$$ Oprah $3M US to provide “branding” like the Democrats did …

  3. Trump just posted on Truth that all trade discussions with Canada are done and he’ll let you know the tariff rate in a week, or how I interpret it, Carney, GFY. Elbows up! Great work team.

  4. Couldn’t be bothered to just use an existing table from some meeting room here, there or anywhere.

  5. Where’s the table from the last Geewhiz go-round?
Did Carney visit the PM office in Calgary? It sits empty and ready for use 24/7/365.

  6. Youse guys get very few bones thrown your way so I wouldn’t bitch.
Besides, when you sign your Declaration of Independence, you can repurpose the table.

  7. GAC should be very very high on any public service downsizing lists…toadies and lickspittles the lot.

Example: Under the Federal Real Property and Federal Immovables Regulations, a Minister is authorized to conduct real property transactions if the market value does not exceed designated limits. Treasury Board has approved a Special Acquisition Limit, allowing GAC to purchase official residences valued up to $10 million.

How many of these on the GAC real estate portfolio ask inquiring minds? Such waste, much graft.

  8. I had no idea it was even possible to spend that much for a table. Trust government to find it.

  9. Obvious there is a dearth of tables at Global Affairs Canada, and there was no tables available from the venue.

  10. Well, I agree that generally, spending on tables should be reviewed periodically (I think that’s elementary). But I’m with Marc here, Mobius is a good local business and it’s not a bad thing to give them money for value. The abusive excess lies elsewhere.
