When Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was recently elected as the new pope, and took the name Leo XIV, there was much speculation about his political views. His latest homily reveals much. The word “borders” appears 12 times. Here’s but one example:
It was on the feast of Pentecost that Pope Francis observed: “In our world today, there is so much discord, such great division. We are all ‘connected’, yet find ourselves disconnected from one another, anesthetized by indifference and overwhelmed by solitude” (Homily, 28 May 2023). The wars plaguing our world are a tragic sign of this. Let us invoke the Spirit of love and peace, that he may open borders, break down walls, dispel hatred and help us to live as children of our one Father who is in heaven.
Here’s a thought: Please take the bold initiative to knock down all the walls around the Vatican and remove all security. After all, that’s analogous to what you’re insisting every country should do. You first.
Indeed. And fill those empty rooms with refugees … and not just little orphan boys.
I want to know the date and time of this, if I have a 10 minute head start, I can carry enough out in one trip to fund 10,000 refugees.
Why not preach the Gospel and every country becomes as great as the US or Israel?

Caliphate Carney and his Pope are apparently resigned to the demographic hand-off over the next couple of decades and believe themselves to be left unscathed, perhaps a higher order of dhimmitude in exchange for a de-industrialized and infidel-depopulated west.

Yet to hear any commie ramblings from Pope Leo,
… “The Spirit opens borders… “The Church (Christians) must break down the barriers between class and race”. This is not socialism, it’s the Gospel of Christ.
Likewise,
… “The Spirit also transforms those deeper, hidden dangers that disturb our relationships, like suspicion, prejudice or the desire to manipulate others.” That’s directed towards tyrants, fascists, communists.
And this one is great,
… “I think too, with great pain, of those cases where relationships are marked by an unhealthy desire for domination, an attitude that often leads to violence, as is shown, tragically, by numerous recent cases of femicide.” Islam in a nutshell.
Well said. This is a spiritual hominy reflecting the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. This is a goal that seems overwhelmingly impossible on a global scale. God works through us one person at a time.
The reflexive negative response from a worldly viewpoint does harm to “our side” and casts doubts on all our comments.
Thank you for this article and the link to the Pope’s homily on Pentecost Sunday. I compared it with the commentator’s observation and suggestion at the end of the piece. Unfortunately, there is no indication that the author read the Pope’s homily. He may have come to a different conclusion.
For example, I counted 11 references to “border” — including the words ending with the letter “s—not 12. This is a small matter.
The Pope’s homily never mentioned immigrants or refugees, let alone borders that demarcate nations’ territory. This, too, is a small matter.
Where the Pope uses the word “border” or “borders,” it is always in the context of barriers between fellow human beings that prevent authentic, respectful relationships. The word as used in the Pope’s homily is a metaphor. In the current context of the post and comments, one such “border” could be anti-Catholic bigotry. This is not a small matter.
Perhaps the owners of smalldeadanimals.com could explain its editorial policy regarding anti-Catholic bigotry. In the sense that the Pope uses the word, one might ask, has SDA breached its border?
“Where there is love, there is no room for prejudice, for “security” zones separating us from our neighbors, for the exclusionary mindset that, tragically, we now see emerging also in political nationalisms.”
Did you miss that part? Because one might think that the pope has moved beyond his spiritual ken here into the realm of Caesar.
Also, what you identify as “anti-Catholic bigotry” could just as easily be people calling out the hypocracy of the pope who has strong borders and exclusionary policies demanding that others not have exclusionary policies and strong borders.
If Catholics would only realize that the entire Papacy is the religious equivalent to the UN, and that contrary to its high-sounding statements and pomp, it is an evil organization that opposes everything it supposedly represents. And defends.
The papacy has always been an evil institution. Calling holy wars, preying on children, and pushing homosexuality. Its only constant and eternal enemy being Christianity.
I can understand the founder of SDA’s desire to prevent flaming among the commentariat. Striking a balance between free and hate speech could be difficult. Ignoring this problem would diminish the quality and reputation of this blog.
Understand, however, that fake history, as displayed above and in some articles, like the current one, written by its contributors, only invites flaming. I don’t envy SDA’s Editor-in-Chief.
My comments are not meant to offend, Pedr. But having skimmed through the comments above, and re-reading my own, I don’t see the issue. So long as contributors aren’t attacking each other, I believe things to be civil.
I could go into the Children’s Crusade, the massacre of the Huguenots (as well as the one in Florida), the crusades in general, the various historical papal birthdays involving naked boys jumping out of the Pope’s cake, the Inquisition, etc.
Those are uncontested historical events. Although the Papacy attempts to downplay each of them, or minimize its involvement. One could go further down the rabbit hole and discuss the Papacy’s involvement in a myriad of assassinations, including Lincoln’s, and the Jesuits in general. But the purpose was not to inflame, but simply provide a general assessment of the view of the Papacy in general. A view held by virtually everyone who isn’t a Catholic.
The newest Communist Pope needs a little history lesson. He needs to consider just how DARK and Dangerous the human spirit actually is. During what we refer to as the Dark Ages … no city, no people, and no church would have survived without WALLED cities. Look it up. EVERY city was walled, moated, and defended from marauding hordes of attackers.
No, we don’t live in the Dark Ages anymore … but … the same marauding hordes of dark-hearted humans still exist. They assemble under many different banners and flags of nations … but we’ve not evolved all that much. And now they have NGO’s with $Billions in endowments from those who HATE Western Society and want to insurrect our cities.
The Pope needs to stay in his lane, and drop his “liberation theology” schtick. It will get us all turned into lampshades or confessing the name of Allah
