That rumor has been floating for 12 or 15 years. I do think airlines are sufficiently stupid that they can make air travel completely untenable.
From the second update with the question of “What would you do in this case?”, I think crime can be reduced by education. For example, I would have taught the fellow on the ladder all he ever needed to know about gravity.
