  1. Is there ANYTHING MY President doesn’t hit out of the park? He calls for Pete Rose to be reinstated… and MLB finally snaps to it.

    https://local12.com/news/local/40000-fans-show-up-great-american-ball-park-celebrate-historic-pete-rose-night-hit-king-charlie-hustle-cincinnati-red-ballpark-baseball-mlb-legend-hall-of-fame-festivities-jersey-giveaway-moment-silence-barry-larkin-george-foster-eric-davis-heartfelt

Now let’s VOTE him into the HOF on the FIRST damn ballot. Is MLB finally waking from the dead balls era?

    1. Well, I have mixed feelings. I remember watching him play when I was much younger. I admired Pete Rose, and his accomplishments, but I simply can’t dismiss the reasons why he was banned in the first place.
I suppose because everybody’s doing it now, Rose shouldn’t have been punished for doing back then what is considered normal and mainstream today.
Well, the “everybody’s doing it” argument is why we have legalized alcohol, pot, abortion, euthanasia, teen-aged pregnancy, and in the not-to-distant-future, hard drugs… oh, wait!
This “celebration” is really a form of acceptance at the level of decadence our society has degraded too. It’s as if we’ve just given up on working to create something, and instead, have resigned ourselves to just accept the way things are as normal. It is anything but.

      1. There is nothing decadent about gambling, smoking pot or alcohol per se.

        1. Yes, that’s what people are saying today, but that’s not what they were saying even as recent as 40 years ago.
Your reply goes to exactly what I was commenting about… that the people of today have become complacent, and have come to expect even the consumption of hard drugs as normal (safe supply).

          1. Got some news for ya sunshine.
Alcohol and pot were not illegal until the 20th century.
Also, comparing drug laws to laws against actually killing people is extremely disingenuous.

          2. I don’t care what people said about those topics 40 years ago and I don’t care what people are saying now.

As for hard drugs, I know a lot of people who have taken them and they all turned out okay, even had a good career, married and had a family.

Re euthanasia. my mother during the last few months of her life found living as a bedbound dependent totally unbearable and wanted it to end.

It all depends on the individual, not what society thinks.

          3. YW… I wasn’t referring to legality of prohibition, or other such “morality laws.” I was simply saying what the normal attitudes were in the preceding generations, and how we progressed (regressed) from then to now.

            Lupos…
Same reply. What YOU think wasn’t what society considered the norm back in the day, when people thought that deliberately killing people who are terminally ill was not only socially unacceptable, but downright evil.

Gee… I wish you people would actually READ my comment before you actually READ INTO my comment.
I’m not trying to make any judgements. My point was to simply point out the regression that took place over the last few decades. If we look at society now and compare it to the golden years of the 50’s, post-WWII, which generation would you suppose would have a happier life? If you answer truthfully, ask yourself what happened to us, and how we got here?

      2. I’m not a gambler. The odds are never in your favor. But I also don’t practice “situational ethics” as has MLB, who turned a blind eye and lip service to the BIGGEST CHEAT of all time in baseball during the ROID era. MLB didn’t WANT to prevent steroids (and other designer drug-enhanced play) when home run stats were skyrocketing jump-starting interest in baseball after years of player strikes and MLB lockouts. MLB … PROFITED from roid use.

Charlie Hustle never roided-up to gain a competitive edge … but dozens and dozens of ROID-era stars did. And MLB did exactly NOTHING (serious) about it … until the fans finally got fed up.

It was OK for MLB to taint the game … but not for Pete Rose to taint the game. Sorry MLB has a stain that can never be washed out.

And let me add … I’ve been a lifelong Oakland A’s fan … ever since they moved to Oakland in 1968. And in the 1970’s, the Cincinnati Reds were our sworn enemies and nemesis … surviving the Reds for the 1972 World Series title. If anyone should HATE every player from the Big Red Machine … it’s me. But I don’t look at FAIR and TOUGH competition that way. I respect the hell out of every worthy foe. And there was none better than Pete Rose.

        1. Yeah … and eFF Jose’ Canseco and Mark MacGuire! I don’t practice situational ethics for my “own team” either. I’ll just give Canseco higher marks for being HONEST about roid use … unlike MacGuire … the big d-bag.

Home Run Records* … my ass.

        2. As I said, I admired Pete Rose’s talents and abilities, but what he did was deemed unacceptable at the time.
I never commented on the rampant ‘roid use in MLB, because that wasn’t the topic being discussed, but now that you brought it up, I don’t see the whataboutism as a valid argument. As you said, people got fed up with the juice, and MLB cleaned up it’s act, and rightfully so.
So in one way, MLB progressed, and in another, it regressed. I’m not referring to Pete Rose now. I’m saying… again, to my point about the overall regression in societal standards, is that gambling in baseball at one point was frowned upon. Now, it’s considered normal. I sincerely ask, is that really for the betterment of the game?

    1. lol. The first car I bought was an 84 Accord. $4,000 used from my sister. May 1989. Loved that 5-speed manual!

    1. They should sue Elections Canada for their dismissal of this issue. Their job is to run fair elections and they obviously messed up here.

      1. Suing government agencies/public sector in Canada is a tricky business unless you’re a jihadi murderer or similar.

  2. Just heard a good one. Wall Street has taken to calling Trump Taco.

    Trump Always Chickens Out.

    I dunno? Maybe?

    1. Aye, cause Trump is such a conspicuous coward. That’s the kind of joke you tell when you’re desperate to pass the time and you can’t find any neighbourhood children to bugger.

  3. BC Teacher suspended for eight days without pay and told by his school district to complete a “Diversity and Sensitivity Training Program” course.

    His crime?

    He said “All lives matter”

    1. Starting to look like something worse. Even RFK Jr. has weighed in. Good info. Thanks.

    2. A new development. Presumably the CFIA was planning on disposing of the 400 carcases in the local landfill. Seems really creepy to me. Well, Kootteney Central district passed a regulation requiring CFIA to test those birds to determine what they might have ( if anything) before they are allowed to dump them. CFIA has been refusing to test — something that makes everyone suspicious that CFIA has an ulterior motive. Carney had better start paying attention as this is an international embarrassment for him. My update info is from Rebel.

    1. L- Jann Arden, by way of her clearly worded opinion of the role of Alberta self-government options inherent in Confederation, has qualified for a Liberal appointment to to Canadian
Senate, if not the Supreme Court. Her pardon my French is perfectly enunciated.
