Meanwhile the price of milk, cheese, eggs, chicken, and virtually every other grocery item is regularly priced 100% or higher what it would other be due to Canadian cartels. And this is just re: food stuffs. Throw in taxi cartels, inter-provincial barriers, etc.
There are so many cartels that should be illegal WITHIN CANADA that all politicians pretend doesn’t exist.
So let’s all stamp our feet and get mad at the leader of a foreign nation rather than focus on something that would have a far larger and closer effect on all of us.

Tariffs, taxes, subsidies…they all have their place in making stuff more expensive for the little people.
As Ron Butler pointed out, it’s not all that difficult for automakers to move some shifts and tooling from Canadian plants to US plants to get around the tariffs. There’s no need to move entire plants, at least in the short term. The automakers routinely mothball plants as it is. This is going to gut the Canadian auto industry.

Or the Cdn manufacturers have to suck up some of the cost for those sold in USA due to competitive pressues and in turn sell in Canada for less than now (more supply, same demand). Likewise, supply of Korean/Jap/German/Chinese cars to Canada may increase due to US barriers resulting in lower prices in Canada (more supply, same demand).
In the longer term production will adjust but in the short term may see a glut of vehicles available.
Hence NONE of those overpriced cars will be sold. Goodbye Canada and your leftist overlords
One of them is the “new” Dodge Charger EV, that makes recorded growling sounds when you go fast. Oy Vey.
It replaced the V8 model from last year. Sales of the EV are Abysmal. Surprise. And now those tariffs should kill that garbage car.

More importantly for Canadians, none of those overpriced cars will be made.
Oh it’s not just a glut on the Canadian market. Watched a couple of American YouTubers reporting on the sale (or lack of) vehicles in the US. It has nothing to do with tariffs, it’s the fact that US auto dealerships are overstocked with unsold vehicles that are priced out of the reach of most would-be buyers. One guy in Colorado I watched claims dealers are unwilling to cut prices even though their lots are overflowing with stock and they’re refusing new inventory from the factories. Interesting in that the windshield stickers on the vehicles are now showing the % US/vs Cda & Mexico content.
Has the Liberal gov’t posted on line, which vehicles will incur the Canadian tax?
Canada taxing Canadians that purchase vehicles, sounds real Canadian.
The tariff near evens-out the difference in the Canadian dollar. The Canadian dollar is being held low on purpose by throttling the Alberta economy – basically screwing Alberta so Ontario can inefficiently make and sell cars to the US.
Any way you look at it this it is bad – keeping Canada poor and keeping Ontario uncompetitive.
