  1. Apr. 2 aka “Liberation Day” as PDJT calls it … or your weird ‘snap election’ … remind me? Which comes first.

    1. Looks like it. We’re done. Looks like the fix is in. I suspect a landslide win for the Liberals that can’t be contested. I loved this place so much.

  2. When I read this, I asked a friend if a common lunatic friend of ours in Vancouver has received his NPC programming update, instructing him to tone down the anti-American rhetoric and refrain from protesting outside the nearby Tesla dealership. No definitive word yet.

    1. Well Trumpes below sure got their marching orders updated to dump on Pierre and promote Carnage.

  3. I didn’t ever see a “C” in MAGA. This could be a Rug Pull on Trump’s part where he takes out Carney, politically towards the end of the campaign, but seriously, if you want Canadian manufacturing , a brainy workforce and Canadian investment to move South, what better way to do that than to help Carney get elected?

    1. You may have a point there. Trump has already said he prefers Carney and hates Poilievre.

      1. Why try to blame Trump for PP stepping on his own dikk? PP wanted to sound ‘Canada Strong’ … but just ended up sounding like John McCain of the North. Goodbye PP … as some on these pages recognized … you’re just a fraud. Just another political whore blowing in the polling winds.

        1. PP is still trying to impress the media and befriend them, by being Mini-Carney.

Classic mistake, the Cons still haven’t learned to stop sucking up to the media

      2. Carney does make things more fun for us. Pollievre would likely be the better choice for a Canadian. And again: it doesn’t matter who you get; we have our goals; we will pursue them.

    2. I laughed when I saw it. Maybe Trump is trying to float poor Singh’s boat and peel off some of the liberal lunatic vote.

It doesn’t matter who we elect, the US admin has some very basic goals that it is going to accomplish with or without our help. They would prefer our help but it’s not essential. These goals, like ditching the climate scam/economic deregulation and tightening the border to name a couple, are going to force our economy to adapt or perish. Our current leadership will happily select the perish option.

      1. The obvious clash of ideas and economic systems, is the old Climate Change Net Zero garbage. Carney is a faithful accomplice of set notions, including adding taxes and costs on goods for his fanaticism.
Clearly, the US is playing the opposite, Net Zero is dead, though Californica reserves the right to immolate itself.
How it’s going to work with exchange of goods between the two is a mystery here. The US is not going to subscribe to it. Period. Focusing our trade on the Eurotrash regimes is a classic mistake. With all the haranguing about US tariffs, it’s comical that the EU is the worst regime for quotas, and other marketing rules dictated by the EU.
Carneys remarks about joining the EU is akin to leaving the frying pan to jump into the fire.

  4. None of this really matters. The current election is nothing but Kabuki theater. Whoever wins is hoping for a majority which will allow them to safely cave to most if not all of Trump’s demands and not have to face the voters for four years. There’s no way that any Canadian government is going to watch the Canadian auto sector implode. Buying all the surplus cars or teaming up with the EU is not an option and Carney, Poillievre and Ford know it. Watch them all fall into line within 6 months of the election.

  5. I read it twice… I think President Donald J. Trump fully intends to meet with the PM after the election.
    Whoever he may be.
As of today, no idea yet who that will be… perhaps one who does his best to hold the country together, or the other one who will set the wheels in FFW for a vote for separation.

    I’m leaning #Librano … yet waffling everyday
I know, it’s obscene of me to say it, but I have reason.
    #accelerationists for the win

    1. I think I see where you’re going with this, marc. Get the liebs elected to accelerate Alberta independence.
I must admit, that would be a dangerous strategy. So many risks, and so many things can go wrong with a newly elected lieb majority government.
But after this election, I’m going to go full PPC. I’m done with the cons throwing elections, and throwing the west at the mercy of these lieb bastards.

      1. I did have a PPC membership for 2 years. It lapsed, I’m all in on separation, and the #Libranos tightening our economic noose seems to be the quickest, though riskiest way forward by far. I’m not in agreement with anything the #Libranos advocate for or support, I’d actually prefer they perished in house fires.

If the Conservatives win, we’ll be stuck in Canada for another decade, accepting our lot with a federalist gov’t which sometimes borders on “Liberal lite”, then a return to actual #Libranos, followed by retribution for ruining their party. And the separatist vote in AB/Sask. could fall dramatically if the Conservatives win, yet we’ll be doomed all the same in the long term. The locals will say, “the Conservatives are in gov’t and times are good” … even when it sucks.

        1. I’m all in on Alberta independence as well, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to come here, to be a part of that movement.
But I will disagree with your presumption that a conservative government will not make life living in Canada better.
Under a Con government, life will not be perfect, but I’m pretty sure that life will not be as painful, so I wouldn’t mind living 10 years under a Con government. Yes, that will drive support down for Alberta independence, but I can live with that, and I’m pretty sure it will pick up again if the liebs ever get voted back in.

    2. And if your western provinces don’t separate? What then?

You see, we will get what we want no matter who becomes your PM. You, however, might wind up getting just what you won’t need.

  6. This note doesn’t really reveal anything. I’m guessing he’s going to hold off on tariffs until after the election.

  7. I was never so happy when Trump won the US election, but I must say that he should have waited until after our election to interfere with what would have been a great Canadian rebirth.

Now, Trump is declaring a winner in our election. This is the same as election interference, as far as I’m concerned. Very presumptuous.

I am no longer impressed and I’m praying that Pierre will continue to draw big crowds and win this thing for Canada.

    1. Trump never saw himself as part of a wider conservative movement, unlike most Republican presidents. Not surprising, given that most of his life was spent traveling in liberal circles. There have been times when he has massively failed to read the room, and this is one of them.

    2. I think it’s clever. Notice he refers to him as PM and not governor.
I think he’s aware that any momentum the liberals have is due to all the tariff talk and general anti Trump sentiment in Canada.
Now that Carney and Trump are apparently “cozy”, what does Carney have left in his tool box?
I could be wrong but I think it’s s a clever attempt to take the wind out of Carney’s windmills.

    3. A brief history of recent American politician’s interferences in Canadian elections:

Barack Obama endorsed Justin Trudeau … and the Canadian media applauded
Hillary Clinton endorsed Justin Trudeau … and the Canadian media applauded
Bernie Sanders endorsed Jagmeet Singh … and the Canadian media applauded
Donald Trump mildly endorsed Mark Carney … by saying he’d be easy to deal with than a Conservative win, as I think Trump knows the cards Marx Carney will play.

      Now it’s a problem?

    4. Good thing then that President Trump isn’t your President.
Perhaps if Pollievre manages the win, then President Trump can make a speech about how Canada missed its chance to elect a PM who supports ‘our liberal, democratic values, our march towards progress” (that is after all, what I’ve been hearing — that we Americans don’t uphold ‘our liberal, democratic values, our march towards progress’).

    5. Trump brags about his skill at doing the deal.
This time he appears to be buying from a used car dealer who doesn’t own the car.
The fate of Canada lay in the hands of about 150,000 selected Liberal voters who appointed Carney as head of their party.

I think Trump’s statement could legitimately be called foreign interference in our election.
The entire situation is grotesque beyond words.

We can hope that the innate hate and envy that most Canadians display for Americans, and Trump, expresses itself in support of the Conservatives.
As well, let’s not forget the rebuff this week of Vance and his wife by Greenland’s voters. The EU does not appear to be in support of Trump’s machinations.

      1. What’s he buying?

Grotesque? Talking to your PM and giving what could charitably be called a pretty standard issue customer service message (the last line is beautiful) is hardly election interference unless you place all your hopes for your preferred candidate on a standard issue customer service message…now that could be considered a grotesquerie!

  8. Many have not have noticed or are afraid to say so, but Trumps command of the English language is less than stellar. He may not have meant exactly what he said.

    1. Oh yes, that has to be it — the President didn’t really mean to say that because he is a stupid, half-literate American, poor command of the English language, barely capable of human speech no doubt!
Please do carry on with this sort of thinking; it’s gotten you so far for such a long time.

    2. Really hard to understand how Trump won three elections with his lack of communication skills…lol

      Chumming the waters.
Anyone really believe he gives a damn who our PM is?

      Why would he?
Who holds all the (trump) cards?

    3. “Many have not have noticed”

      On the other hand.

Trump had 3 hour rallies almost weekly in packed stadiums for the last 8 years to make sure everybody knew.

  9. Well, if we dismantle lawyrese style, he didn’t say “we will be meeting”, there’s no noun there. Meaning there’s no “we” before election.
He may be into a bit of trolling, counting on the reaction “who are you to decide for us who will be next PM?/oh yeah, let’s not go with Carnage”.

  10. I care the same amount about Eastern Canada as they feel towards the West, which is ZERO. Former premier Brad Wall was on radio expressing this is the most important election concerning national unity. His frustration was a system being power centric in the east that will inevitably be its demise, as the will to listen to concerns has become abundantly clear, our message means nothing.

  11. Geeze … Trump is still trolling Canada … trolling your idiotic election rules … your idiotic “interim”, unelected PM. Puhleeze … Trump’s command of the English language is as good as anyone’s. However, he speaks in abbreviated terms … like a boss on a construction site. Get your shit done, no arguments. Rather than critique Trump’s communication skills … you should start reading between his words … because he’s giving you a clue. He’s not backing down on anything.

America STRONG baby! Elbows OUT! And swinging!

Trudeau could have simply negotiated with Trump. Instead … he sent your country into the wood chipper while he retired to avoid the mess. He’s enjoying the sweet trust fund life, and is probably self-satisfied that he REALLY has post-nationalized a failing Canada. He’s RICH$$$$ … you’re poor and can’t even afford your mortgages. So be PROUD Canadians! F-America! Right? F-Trump! Right?

Just curious … can you have a ‘snap-election’ immediately following your ‘snap-election’ … if you don’t like the results? I have no idea how your weird election rules work …

    1. One of Trump’s postings commentée on Trudeau’s use or anti-Americanism to boost électoral ratings. Not so stupid.

    2. For more than 100 years all Canadian elections were “snap elections” in the same way as my mom said for decades, “all of the sudden he got up and made a coffee” … then someone noticed the USA has elections scheduled and “we” thought that’s a great idea. Then it wouldn’t be a “snap election”. I guess it implies a surprise, even while the west especially has been howling for one for more than 2 years

If a majority of seats are not elected by one party, then a coalition (like the past few years) will be wrought, if the NDP for example are not willing to support anyone, then it’s tenacious and we could “all of the sudden” have another election. There’s no upper limit on either our stupidity, nor the number of elections we have in a year.
If the minority party (likely the NDP) switch sides after a week while parliament is in session, there could be a “vote of confidence” (any money bill will trigger this) and the losing side is compelled to go to the Governor General to have her call for an election. She’ll generally accept that, dissolve parliament, and call for an election, but she could again call for the other party to “try”. Again there is no upper limit on our stupidity and all bets are off at that point. This could continue *forever* similarly to us not having a term limit for politicians even if they are unable to walk up a flight of stairs, ride a bike, or sign a waver or whatnot without mechanical aid.

The American Supreme Court doesn’t have an upper age limit, Canada’s are all retired at 75. So there’s that.

What Mr. Einstein said about stupidity, is true, though I usually side more with Mark Twain where he said never argue with a stupid person…

      1. Thank you MiC for the brief tutorial. Every time some Euro-fan boi moans that America needs more than two political parties … I look to Europe … and to Canada and recognize what a shitshow “coalition” governments are. They’re always leftist and NEVER “democratic” in any way, shape, or form.

        1. “I look to Europe … and to Canada and recognize what a shitshow “coalition” governments are. They’re always leftist and NEVER “democratic” in any way, shape, or form.”

Yup. You can vote your way into socialism, but you’ll have to shoot your way out of it.

        2. With a two major party system, the parties have to reach some sort of compromise with their various factions to get a party platform that is at least somewhat agreeable to all before they go into elections. This tends to act as a leavening and reduce some of the more fringe demands from each faction, thereby making them more palatable, and representative, to a greater segment of the public.
That is the strength of our system — our politics have gotten increasingly polarized, but that is a reflection of the society itself, and still it isn’t as fractured as the multi-party systems in other Western states with their multiple parties and lack of stability.
Then we could get into the differences between what liberal/progressive and right-wing truly mean in Europe and what Americans perceive them to be — they are most definitely not the same thing, especially the right wing.

  12. **Wild Prediction!**

Watch for Trump to let loose a whopper of a torpedo (figuratively speaking) to deal a death blow to the Liberal campaign in around April 24th.

    You heard it here first.

It’s chess. And he’s 5 moves ahead, as usual.

We’re such a cute, almost serious country.

  13. I really do not think Trump wants that. He wants effective border enforcement and more equal tariffs. And a strong Canada spending 5% of GDP on defense.

    1. Winner winner chicken dinner…

      All Trump has ever required…
That and no more back door steals via Chy-na

    2. Exactly. And the whole world is in an uproar because they’ve never before seen a president willing to use the leverage he has to obtain what he wants. Since the Marshall plan the traditional answer has been “let the Americans pay for it,” and those days are over.

    3. Our GDP is in a power dive. 5% spent on defence will soon buy you a couple of cases of .308 NATO, and you can pay for your own helmets.

Trump is more concerned about his advancing years than he is about our Flailing Dominion.

    4. Ahh.. the ‘crux’ of the matter.. ITT, Clayton cramer efficiently separates the wheat from the chaff..

  14. Cliff-jumper Carney. He did come back to Canada for us. I’m afraid. I didn’t do anything wrong.

  15. Chinese checkers v 4d chess
Canadians with TDS most troubled by POTUS Trump endorsement of PM Brookfield.

  16. Trump read Steinbeck’s “Winter of Our Discontent” and he’s very successful at doing deals in what’s probably one of the most corrupt places in the USA.
One of the lessons he learned in The Winter Of Our Discontent is how easy it is to win against an adversary that is corrupt.
You drop a dime, or threaten to drop a dime in this case and you win.
    Couldn’t be easier.

Of course the leader of the largest intelligence state on the planet wants to do a deal with the most “elected” government on the same planet.

Does he just want a northern route to Alaska and Alberta / Sask or does he want a free, honest Canada?

  17. I would hope for “honest Canada”, but the US has a piss-poor track record on nation building, so he would likely settle with MegaMontana™ (Albertamus Prime and Saskakota) and call it a lid..

  18. If the Cons don’t win a majority, how likely is Carney to stick around to lead “His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition”?
