    2. I have a former design client (she and her acclaimed retired NHL husband) live in Timmins. She is disgusted with the local Indian (indigenous, aboriginal – whatever they call themselves now) bands as the bands are dead set against this development unless they receive mega-bucks. FYI, the Ring of Fire is not on Indian reserves.
      When I did work for her back in the late 1990’s, Timmins had a population of 67,000 people and was a local hub for business. It had a gold mine, a talc mine (think Johnson’s Baby powder) and the facility to test cars for their performance in extremely cold weather. In the past 20+ years, the Timmins population has now shrunk and investment is down. Opening up the Ring of Fire would help Timmins become a regional business hub again. I realize this would be to her and her husband’s benefit, but still it would be also good for the community. Perhaps they would no longer lose the younger population to the delights of larger cities.

  18. The same goes on within Canada with “arts grants” usually for “spoken work artists” with Canada Arts Council, provincial arts councils and municipal arts council grants. Check out your Arts Councils funded by governments and what their millions in “grants” are for.
