Someone should remind her that Canada did, at one time, have nuclear weapons on our soil, or so it was alleged. The Bomarcs were acquired after the Avro Arrow was cancelled.

No alleged here. The Voodoo carried Genie nuclear rockets (yep, rockets, no guidance system). These were designed to shoot down Soviet bombers. Canadian fighter bases had an area where these were kept and guarded by Americans (with dogs and all). The “soil” was American, so there were no nukes on Canadian soil. Not kidding. The Americans would supervise the loading of the weapons when they were loaded. The 104s in Germany had a low-level delivery mission, gravity bombs. Again, not our nukes.
I don’t remember the Genies having nuclear warheads. I do recall PET sending the Bomarcs back being a news item on CBC, which emphasized that, by doing so, Canada no longer had nukes on its soil.
Oddly enough, there was a Bomarc, complete with RCAF insignia, on display in front of the aviation museum in Edmonton. I’m not sure if it was the genuine article, but if it was a model, it was certainly convincing. It’s been a while since I was in that part of the city, so I don’t know if it’s still there.
The Voodoo also had conventional missiles but they sucked big time. I am not aware that the nukes were ever loaded for real but they existed and crews trained like hell with them. The cold war was serious business. Bomarcs were not very impressive and they were garbage. They are the reason we bought the Voodoo.
