But the companies who originally proposed them are not interested and have moved on.
Indeed, I was not aware that the once-underused 42 inch pipe in the TransCanada mainline is now fully subscribed, meaning it is no longer available. While apparently Line 2 is out of service, there’s likely a reason. So instead of a project which had 2/3 of the pipe already in the ground, we’d be starting from scratch for a new Energy East. And TC Energy has spun off its oil pipelines business to a new company, South Bow. So we’re really back to zero on this, if not many steps backwards, compared to where we were in 2013-15.
So much for Energy East: TC Energy says U.S. offers best returns as it considers spending commitments
And Enbridge is thinking the same on Northern Gateway.
Big shift in Canadian policy needed for new energy export projects: Enbridge
If only these projects had been built a decade ago…

“Talking”.
And that is all our Dear Leaders will do.
Based on what the companies have said, canada is effed, and you can’t uneff it. Congratulations Libranos.
If we don’t kick the liberal party to the curb permanently, Canada will become a backwater
Will be a back water country ? They have been in power longer than the CCP or the communists in the USSR. It only keeps getting worse and worse here.
Glad you didn’t pick up and leave Brian.
Good stuff, thanks.
….. thought about it….
I’m glad you still post here, too.
“….. thought about it….”
But did you actually learn anything from the experience, though?
Good question. I’m glad someone posed it.
I’ll assume this is legit information, and was not shouted into Blinky’s ear by the same martyred vengeance-seeking ancestors who keep him informed on the thoughts and plots of all the current incarnations of Hitler. On that assumption, yes, good stuff, and thank you for it. What a shame that I have to make that assumption, though.
Canada under the Liberals have created a toxic investment climate. THAT is what is going to bring Canada down….not the threatened tariffs. Capital will flow out of this country at a tremendous rate into the U.S. Trump isn’t the enemy….Ottawa is.
Ontario and quebekkie get a large amount of their oil/gas from the US (line 5). Dug Ford must not realize this as he insists on poking the bear. Maybe Gretchen should close the valve on a coupla cold nites. Bet that would get his attention. And froggies.
Dougie may or may not know, but whoever is writing his lines does, and doesn’t care because most canadians are children of mommy government, they accept what they are told.
“Just before the St. Clair River, Line 5 reaches the Marysville pumping station. Volumes destined for Michigan and Ohio refineries such as BP Husky and Marathon Detroit are offloaded there, and transferred to a Sunoco pipeline that runs from Marysville to Toledo.”
Canadians don’t realize how fundamentally we have changed our future.
We’ll never be what we could have been.
Poilievre will at best manage our decline reasonably.
If we never had a liberal government, Canada would now be the envy of the world
EE only made some sense at high oil prices and didn’t as soon as everyone thought KeyStone XL was happening.
Just make a bunch of Northern Gateways and crucify everyone who stopped it from getting built.
Only if you think small. NB and NS have massive amounts of shale to be fracked, that infrastructure would help get gas from that to tidewater. Liquify it and ship it to Europe.
Does it make sense to frack it at this prices and prices to come?
yes, 95% of the wells in the world are frac’ed
NB and NS have massive amounts of shale to be fracked…
And lose their coveted “have not” status? That requires money & effort. Much like Kaybeck, not likely…
Because the Quebec Pension Plan is heavily invested in Saudi oil, that is why no EE pipeline.
EE made sense until the feds demanded that the pipeline itself account for and absorb the carbon emissions of the downstream user. You can blame the Liberals.
So now we are open to building pipelines, not about climate ngos, goverment regulation, capital gains hikes etc
All this while Mark Carney telling us in his own words that we kill the consumer carbon tax but tax the buisness instead. Do we really think Carney will set aside his dream of punishing investment lending to carbon energy producing enterprises.
No, it’s over and the decline will continue no matter who governs this post nation state. My hope lies with trump putting the screws to Canada through economic warfare and my utopia is that western Canada aligns with America as much as possible.
If I could drag my land over the border, would be doing it today.
Carney needs to support his favorite pet project, Brookfield Renewables Partners L.P. which is heavily supported by government subsidies, and well off it’s peak $45usd.
Pause for a moment to think about what’s happening:
A foreign leader, by merely talking, is helping Canadians become more prosperous. Without such foreign trash talking, Canada’s own leaders had zero interest in the prosperity of Canada’s citizens.
Who would have thought!
…”Canadians become more prosperous “. HAHAHAHAHA!
WE ARE FUBAR!
Nothing we can do will help much, certainly not someone talking, regardless of who is doing the gathering.
Do people think that companies build things out of the goodness of their heart? Companies have one job and one job only. MAKE MONEY! Right now the US is a much more business friendly place with soon to be announced corporate tax cuts etc. So unless the government of Canada is going to engage in another boondoggle no pipelines will be built in Canada for the foreseeable future.
“Right now the US is a much more business friendly place with soon to be announced corporate tax cuts etc.”
No it isn’t. It’s becoming uninvestable. Supply chains and labor force under attack.
Remember when Biden axed Keystone day 1 in office and our PM did absolutely nothing about it? I do, and I’m not taking any of this faux nationalism seriously.
Like before when they wanted the railroad, it was just an excuse to bind the west to Canada, and not lose the land to the U.S. . Refuse any pipelines going east, as it is about manipulation and not improving a damn thing. You know the east will make sure they are the only ones who profit from it.
That’s stupid. The goal is to get the resources sold not to lash out for your grievances. Grow up.
I’ve witnessed your screeds for quite awhile. Please refrain from speaking. Your manner of behavior lowers the I.Q. wherever you appear.
Hey, you set your goals and I’ll set mine. Take that, grievances! [lash! lash!]
Stephan Guilbeault floated the idea of legislation to stop all road infrastructure and somehow we are back to pipelines. Good lord we are a pathetic country !
Yep, this country is done. The west must seek alternatives. Trudeau wants you wave the Liberal party flag for him, but when truckers from the west waved it, he arrested the.
The country of Canada’s centennial, Bobby Gimby, optimism, strength, and sound economy have all been destroyed Trudeaus and their Liberal acolytes. Bring back the original flag.
Given the cost of such projects, guess which capital markets we’ll be going to for borrowing. That’s right. Uncle Sam. We may not want to annoy them as much as we have.
There are lots of capital markets, and not everyone in the US is as hypersensitive as Orange Tard or his followers, who are too low quality to control much capital.
Looks like the Hopium strategy. The traitors haven’t changed their minds.
Ten years of inaction cost Canada a lot of market share. Socialists don’t mind being poor, living hand to mouth, as long as everyone else is too.
As long as the socialists at the top are living like royalty, you mean.
Pretty hard to blame the Liberals and their voters. Alberta and Sask both have had ample warning and knowledge of where we sit in the Canadian food chain but we CHOSE to stay with our masters in Ottawa.
When your kids can’t find a job or are standing in a line at the food bank you can tell them you did nothing to secure their future and to be proud that at least they’re Canadian.
Enjoy the decline.
Very few are “talking pipelines”. Not Trudeau. Not Guilbeault. Not Jinping.
Mark Carney intentionally misleads when he infers, “rapidly developed, new pipeline infrastructure” which is an oxymoron.
Jonathan Wilkinson (Natural Resources) said the country should “weigh” building new pipelines because Trump’s tariffs “exposed” a vulnerability. He’s open to talking but certainly not building, and his revelation that lack of foreign markets was only recently “exposed” is another weak attempt at distracting from traitorous policies.
They cannot stop lying. It’s all they know. It’s all they have and as for their 1965 Maple Leaf,
that was the Fleur de lis shoved down our throats.
And there are no sugar maples – which is the emblem on our flag – anywhere in Canada west of Ontario.
The Liberals and their aparatchiks would very much prefer to rule over a poor dependent country and populace, than participate in a successful one.
Liberals lie.
That’s what they do.
No pipeline is ever getting built again while they’re in power.
Need to put a 50% tariff on offshore oil coming in to Quebec and Ontario. But the Libranos will never do that.
There is no chance in hell that a pipeline to the East Coast of the size we need could be done in less than 5 years, even if all the permitting requirements were torn up. That horse has left the barn.
There only ever been one solution to this CON-federation and the freeing of all its people.
Break it up.
