USAID is done. From their website:
On Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:59 pm (EST) all USAID direct hire personnel will be placed on administrative leave globally, with the exception of designated personnel responsible for mission-critical functions, core leadership and specially designated programs. Essential personnel expected to continue working will be informed by Agency leadership by Thursday, February 6, at 3:00pm (EST).
@jbendery – WSJ reporting that the CIA is … *checks notes* … *double checks notes* … offering buyouts to its entire workforce.

… on smaller government:

Gotta love the guy.
They have to stop paying them.
Well, the Democrats are threatening to close down the US government come March 14. They talk as if that is a bad thing – nobody will get paid, not even them. That would definitely be a reset. But Democrats/Liberals have threatened to do that before and they always fold like a house of cards.
Downsizing … Rightsizing … the American government in REAL time! WINNING!!!
And for AOC to call Musk the most “unintelligent Billionaire” on the planet is beyond funny. Does she comprehend how big a FOOL she just made of herself? AOC … IS .. the Democrat Party. THIS is who they ARE. Mental midgets calling a Genius Savant … unintelligent. It would be laughable if it weren’t so tragic.
She’s just mad because she can’t date him.
Exactly. Disappointed she will never have one of his dozen or so babies
Upper management at ISIS said to be devastated.
There is a very good chance that USAID funds were being used by Democrat presidential candidates. For example:
((In September, the Obama campaign got 1.8 million donations from small contributors who did not break the $200 threshold requiring that their information be reported to the Federal Election Commission. They gave the campaign 98 percent of the $181 million it raised that month, a figure vastly higher than its take in any previous month.))
They would send the public money to a foreign foundation with a solid reputation (on the surface)…and then funnel it into various 501 3c non-profits, which make it private funds. Those funds would then be funneled to a bundler in the US, who would disperse contributions under $200 (therefore unreportable) using unknowing donators. Back then, Acorn International was one of the cogs. Their international office worked out of Shanghai. And as the USAID is an extension of the intelligence community, you can bet USAID funds and resources were also directly effecting foreign elections as well….Maybe even Canada’s. Definitely Germany’s (Merkel).
Nicely done observation.
As bad as USAID is, this is wildly unconstitutional and portends a dictatorship.
Guess what? USAID was initiated with an Executive Order. An Executive Order per the Constitution can, indeed, put a stop to it. That’s not a dictatorship. That’s the Executive Branch of the Government actually doing their intended job. You can throw around the “dictatorship” label with abandon as you have. But, it’s lazy, ignorant, and reflective of a bias.
The simple fact of the matter is that there have been decades of corruption within the US Government. It has become commonplace and accepted by those who benefit. It has been hidden from those who wouldn’t approve. For once, a Chief Executive is taking it apart and correcting it. I certainly understand your investment in this. You’ve been very vocal in your disapproval (mostly through ad hominem attacks). The last thing you’d like to see is the success of the current administration because it would reflect poorly on your own misgivings and intended critical thought.
The previous administration was way way closer to a dictatorship than anything the current administration has done in these first few weeks. A president doing exactly what he campaigned on and won on is a reflection of the will of the people . That’s not a dictatorship.
Nope that’s not how that works. While USAID is a collation of several organizations by JFK, the spending was authorized by congress and ending that spending usurps Congress’s power of the purse per Article I. Further, USAID was later established ‘again’ by Congress: https://www.justsecurity.org/107267/can-president-dissolve-usaid-by-executive-order/
There is no such thing as the ‘will of the people’, and it couldn’t matter less what the president campaigned on.
Try again, not close.
You mean to tell us that congress approved $50 million dollars to ship condoms to Gaza?
You mean to tell us that the people cannot express their will, especially in a massively won mandate through a democratically held election?
…and you wonder why I keep calling you “UnReal!”
Trump didn’t touch the funding, he just rescinded the Executive Order that created this CIA/Dem laundering operation. Fun fact, USAID helped fund the overthrow of Ukraine’s elected leader and install Zelensky. It’s not just about transgender coloring books for Ecuador and condoms for Gaza…
The Constitution requires the approval of the House to initiate spending, confirmed by the Senate, and signed into being by the President.
The Constitution doesn’t require that approval to “not spend”. Hence tax cuts etc… which have been approved by various presidents signing an executive order.
The power of the purse is for spending, not for, “not spending”
See also, Antonin Scalia who may have been paraphrasing when he said, “the constitution says what it says, and doesn’t say what it doesn’t say”
Well put.
Looks like there is such a thing as the “will of the people”…..at least in the U.S.
Just another leftist opinion site, NOT an authority.
Typical.
UnPerson (pronouns: zero and naught) is nothing more than a smug holier-than-thou cultist.

No, it’s freedom! It’s that thing you like to wave around when it conveniences you. “As bad as USAID is” is itself a moronic, equivocating statement of soft butter.
USAID is experiencing the “freedom” of being busted as a black ops, criminal scam.
Wait. It’s unconstitutional to eliminate an unconstitutional unaccountable rouge department that is draining the American coffers to push an LGBTQueer agenda? And to launder taxpayer dollars into the pockets of multiple NGO’s, Congresspeople, Staffers, and Democrat donors?
Puhleeze.
OnDork, please enlighten us on the consitutional provisions which this violates. Section and article.

Remember when UnHinged went to bat for Canuck fentanyl dealer and gunrunner Maisum Ansari?
“The only outrage here is the continued persecution of people for committing non-crime such as drug dealing and owning [illegal] guns.”

The 69th Amendment which mandates the Federal government spread LGBTQueerdom across the planet. aka the Queerth Amendment.
Everyone is going to die! But especially women and girls!:
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2025/feb/04/deaths-predicted-amid-the-chaos-of-elon-musks-shutdown-of-usaid
According to the Guardian…
Dictators have been fighting wars for years knowing their families and their tribes will be well taken care of by USAID, now they’re on their own. How will they maintain their terror campaigns? Oh the humanity!
Where will the 3rd World be without Tranny Opera?
The Guardian….now THAT’S FUNNY!
“Analysis confirms that several thousand women and girls are likely to die from complications during pregnancy and childbirth as a direct result of Trump’s order to freeze aid to the agency for 90 days.”
If $40 billion is required to save “several thousand” lives, that is that the most ineffective government spending in human history.
Will someone please think of UBC and UofS!!!!

I’d like to know if the CIA is going to be shut down, or merely transformed to an 97 person federal outpost.
ALL governments….at ALL levels need to be put through a DOGE exercise. ALL governments are bureaucratic monstrosities that need a HUGE haircut.
And now we know who will pick the cotton.
Keystone Accountability.
Good.
Maybe the money can be used to develop an actual intelligence agency up to the task of uncovering and eliminating threats to the national security of the United States.
