    – Ah, but that was NATURAL! That was ORGANIC! So it’s all good, and even sorta’ sun-worshippy; besides, everybody knows the fire was caused by global warming – right?

    1. Destruction of the ecosystem?

Raging wildfires have been a natural part of California for millennia.

Everywhere, really….they usually just never got out of hand like this because there was rarely enough understory/fuel build up between fires. There are plants and trees that have actually evolved to depend on occasional forest fires. The pine beetle debacle here in BC would never have gotten so bad if nature had been allowed to take her usual course.

    1. l wonder the energy released on that city august 1945, compares to the same now from the dantes’s inferno paying a visit to L.A.
my very rough guess, 3 or 4 times.

  2. LOL. The deputy mayor is under investigation for phoning in bomb threats to city hall. That’s California crazy.

  3. The mayor of Los Angeles that went dumb in a surprise interview upon returning from Ghana where the average IQ is 58.

  4. I like Hansen and I’m a right of center guy but I’m not sure I agree withe criticism of the water district and citing dry fire hydrants. This is an unprecedented situation and the water district isn’t in charge of clearing the brush off of the hillsides of city and county wilderness areas.

As far as the 117 million gallon reservoir, it has a flexible fabric liner cover that had a tear in it (most likely an HDPE type liner) and you can’t put that back in service without compromising the water quality. Also, in the winter time when water demand is lower you typically keep reservoir levels lower to maintain water quality else you have water remaining in the reservoir for long periods of time and becoming stagnant and developing chloramines which are regulated by EPA. So, yes that reservoir, had it been in service, would have helped but it wouldn’t have been the entire solution.
Typically storage tanks (such as the 3-million gallon tanks that were in service) are designed to hold enough water to fight a fire in a single family home or commercial building; one building being on fire not an entire neighborhood at the same time. A typical fire storage would be about 2000 gal per min flow for two hours which is 240,000 gallons. The rest of the tank storage is for the day to day fluctuation of water demand that occurs in the system such as when everyone showers between 5 & 8 am. With a fire this large and lasting this long of course 3-million gallon tanks are going to run dry rather quickly.
What can be done with the water district is better planning for reservoir repairs and figuring out a way to get contractors out to make the repair quickly. It shouldn’t take a year to get the repair done as I’ve seen some reports say. That has to happen faster.
It seems that the parks dept at the city and county level haven’t done any proactive work of clearing brush and trying to prevent wildfires or at least to reduce the fuel load to keep the fires much more manageable. That’s where I see the biggest need.

      1. Go look at the Gooogle Earth satellite pictures of the reservoir, turn on the timeline option so you can look at multiple dates… every picture since 2009 show it empty.

    1. The Camp Fire should have provided sufficient notice that a water reserve suitable for dousing a fire in a single structure is absurdly inadequate in California…but they have illegal immigrants to feed, clothe and house, the obvious priority.

They absolutely refuse to do so, instead bowing to the demands of the eco-zealots that the forest remain “natural”.

  5. The level of green theocracy in California is almost on par with Jonestown. Jerry Brown and Jimmy Carter were supporters of Jimmy Jones. ENGOs are big business in the death cult industry and virtually own the Democrats. Their loons and lawyers in their executive suites are likely toasting the removal of the stains of humanity in LA.

    1. The State Building code mandates solar panels and fire sprinklers for all new homes … adding to the cost. And no, the sprinklers are INSIDE the house, not outside … so they won’t stop any house from burning in a wildfire. And in fact … when the CPVC plastic piping melts in the fire … even MORE water pressure will be lost in the system as fire sprinklers require a doubling of water meter size.

  6. again again again again, the ‘leftist infested ruling class’ was PUT THERE by just enough of the VOTERS. skill testing Q: *how many voted Newscum* and got THEIR abode used as kindling? hmmm? hmmmmmmmmm??????????
