The Dunning–Kruger effect is defined as the tendency of people with low ability in a specific area to give overly positive assessments of this ability. This is often seen as a cognitive bias, i.e. as a systematic tendency to engage in erroneous forms of thinking and judging. In the case of the Dunning–Kruger effect, this applies mainly to people with low skill in a specific area trying to evaluate their competence within this area. The systematic error concerns their tendency to greatly overestimate their competence, i.e. to see themselves as more skilled than they are……

Frequent commenters here at SDA, “Thucydides the Pureblooded” , “cgh” and “Joe” have said a budget needs to be in place (voted on) by 31 March 2025
That The Turd™ cannot simply have these funds paid out from the PMO, or by executive decree. If it means the federal gov’t is going to throw the dice with a “what’s the worst that could happen” … then I’d be in favor of this, as long as AB/Sask. could have a referendum in place too.
If there was a successful referendum for western separation, how many hours would it be for the new President to recognise our new and independent state?
But some caution here… there’s a new sheriff in Washington DC who’s toying with the idea of extending citizenship if not outright annexation of tier 2 Canada… is Canada’s 31k battlefield ready military being paid after 31 March 2025? Seems it’s worth asking someone.
That’s a heck of a gamble… as the military is already grotesquely underfunded.
The middle of tax season is a heck of a time to run out of money, and THEN to have an election where the budget is further delayed until there’s an actual functioning gov’t in place.
I don’t know if this affects E.I. and pensions, the federal prison wardens, and various #Libranos who are judges, but if it is, I presume the RCMP will be out of funds to pay their unionised officers, and smashing gov’t windows will become the new national sport.
Anyways, then I’d guess AB won’t have to fund the federal gov’t policing the border with Montana anymore.
Something tells me, either The Turd™ has planned this all out and is an evil POS genius playing 3D chess with us all, or he’s a deer looking into the headlights and hasn’t a clue as to what’s going on.
I say he’s a deer today, let’s see how it shakes out… lol…
Maybe he’ll beat Kim Campbell’s record too… 6 seats now and how low can we go?
Re: budget
The moment an election is called and there is no budget voted, government operations continue on what is called “warrants”
These warrants pay for ongoing expenses until a new government presents a budget. But no new expenses, even the hiring of a single consultant are permitted. So DND won’t run out of money to pay the troops.
Can the government run in warrants if an election is not called?
For example if Trudeau prorogues Parliament?
The last budget that was passed had an extra $40 billion in borrowing in it, that no one wanted to explain, it looks like $20 billion of that went to the miss of the deficit target, but where is the other $20 billion?
Or was this just another bunch of Government Approved Accounting Principles that would send a private sector accountant to jail.
Warrants are only issued immediately after Parliament has been dissolved. They are only valid up to 60 days after the the return of election writs. They are issued by the Governor General to the President of the Treasury Board to permit the continuation of normal government operation to spend money already appropriated by Parliament.
So yes, government runs under warrants from time to time. But only very briefly.
And they can’t use them if Parliament is prorogued.
a) He’s worried about tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, so he’ll make 40 million new citizens?
b) he’d be giving the Democrats control of the House, the Senate, and the Presidency for years to come.
c) free movement of all goods from the state of “Canada” to the US. Don’t think special interests in the US would like that (for example softwood lumber).
Indeed he’s not going to annex Canada or any part of it. He’s simply waiting until Trudeau, whom he despises, is replaced by a new Prime Minister with whom he can negotiate and who represents the country. That would be PP. DJT has enough problems of his own such as dealing with the last dying days of the Biden/Harris administration and an assortment of trouble-makers within the Republicans.
I think The Turd is owned Lock Stock and Barrel by the WEF.
He can’t get out of this even if he wanted to.
I agree with that, but I do not know why the WEF honchos would want to keep him in power. They have others who could take his place.
Jag And Turd just need to hang on to zero then they can get pension and we can crush their party.

This is beautiful, if the numbers tell the CPC to hit the NDP, it is so they don’t look like they are kicking an injured dog.
The Libranos losing official party status is a beautiful thing. Poilievre can then reduce per seat party funding in order to help ease the budget, they would look good with one staffer to answer the phone in the constituency office, and no one in Ottawa. All those Librano communications firms will have to spend 4 years doing pro bono work, not their specialty, lol, to keep life in the corpse. Senate funding too, cut them off completely from public money.
Or zero it out, lets stop funding political parties and giving them special tax treatment.
That should have ended with: “and you get to pay for it!”
I believe that would have had more impact.
Of course he will prorogue
It’s the only option he has left.
But eventually he has to fish or cut bait.
Step down or face the electorate.
Steps down = no legacy
Face the electorate= taking the LPC to unofficial status and possibly end the party as a ballot option for good.
I agree, he has to prorogue. Whether he stays or goes. If he stays, in his delusions that he will turn things around, or he just wants to hang around til October, then he must prorogue to avoid a confidence vote. He needs to buy time. But if he wants to resign, he also needs to prorogue to allow a leadership race without the threat of a confidence vote before the leadership race is over.
Either way, he must prorogue.
The only way around this is to somehow engineer a confidence vote anyway, which is what Poilievre is trying to do. Last I heard, there was a committee through which this is possible.
Whenever our TV is on a Canadian station, e.g. World Juniors hockey, there are several ads from the Canadian government about their climate action plan. I also saw a few by the Liberal Party of Canada. But I repeat myself. They are well in to their campaign, at least on their traditional media, which tells me they expect an election soon and they are betting on the one -trick shiny pony.
Liberals running Clean Environment Canada ads paid for with possibly dirty money. That’s rich.
Those Ads are really bribes to keep the media in line.
There’s some effect on political polling (defined by some forgetful hyphenated name) that loosely translates to “Shy Conservatives” not responding candidly to pollsters’ questions (if at all). Should this manifest itself in our next election it could well be a rout. Then with any luck at all the Liberals will be banished to the political desert, lost for 40 years because their leaders won’t ask anybody for directions
Unlike Harper, PP with a majority must rid the land of the CBC. There will be shrieking but F ’em. If he doesn’t, he’s not serious.
PP keeps saying he’s going to “defund the CBC”. Okay, I take him at his word, but, it’s a weasel word, isn’t it?
Defund by $1 Million? $10 Million? $50 Million? $100 Million? Any amount cut is *defunded*.
Terminate is a much better, defined word, but he’s never uttered that or any other similar word in reference to the Corpse.
What Joe said – the salient detail in his post:
“Furthermore, no Special Warrants may be issued during that period if Parliament stands prorogued.”
Let them prorogue; it will finish the Liberals and the NDP, the latter’s sycophancy played out in front of the voters.
Provided the adults in Ontario turn out to vote.
Best news….0 greens.
