Whenever I see people screaming that Elon Musk should be deported … simply because he disagrees with someone about immigration policy, I immediately get very suspicious about such folks, thinking they’re somewhere between immature and a Democrat / Deep State plant. Aren’t such instantaneous 0 – 11 bursts of anger reserved for the Left? Apparently not, it seems.
‘Judas’ isn’t relevant. Reality is relevant, and the reality is that deporting millions of peaceful people is insane and will have disastrous side effects that include food shortages that happen in parallel to the catastrophes caused by Trump’s tariffs. There are likely a chunk of Republicans who know that they were elected because of inflation and other table side issues, and they will maneuver to avoid being roadkilled for Trump’s lunatic schemes like they were in 2018. It probably won’t work but points for trying!
If the Dems have any savvy, they will take advantage of these splits with ‘negotiation’ offers that appeal to some faction of the GOP and incense another. Get the wedge in and save America.

Denying taxpayer handouts to illegal immigrants will get about 75% of them to self-deport and will stop most of the northward migration. Sending ICE agents to public soccer fields to check for illegals will get most of the rest since real Americans don’t play or watch soccer. If Trudeau stays in power, it might be necessary to start checking public ice skating rinks.

To put an end to this ‘p*ss up” it only requires that we compare the STEM graduates in America over the last twenty years against the humanities, poli-sci, philosophy, and gender study graduates. Now compare those results with the same results in India. I’ll bet the farm that the numbers will justify the H-1B attitude that Elon and Vivek adhere to is the right course of action in the long run. Anyone in the MAGA camp that can’t see this is too biased to hold a position of authority. The Democrats can claim their justification for bringing in unskilled labour because Americans won’t pick fruit and vegetables, we’ll the MAGA crowd better get on board because it wasn’t Americans alone that put men on the moon, there were a lot of Germans and Canadians that were partially responsible.
I work in tech. Not in America at the moment, but for 5 years there.
Some of the big companies are crazy both with hiring practices and expectations for employees. I wouldn’t want for myself the job of a Qualcomm grunt. But also I don’t know too much about their daily life. Interacting with them is a bit terrible, like a bunch of immigrant stereotypes and also overworked engineer problems rolled into one.
This is also connected to DEI. It’s nice to have smart foreign people who enslave themselves basically. Of course it’s preferred compared to high-earning jobs for white kids, but all of those were encouraged to go into cushy software engineer work instead of tougher electronic engineer things. If you think I’m wrong about how software is much easier, I’d almost prefer fighting to talking, except those jobs are so cushy they even tend to practice boxing or martial arts just for useless respect.
Anyway, back to Elon vs Right, it’s hard to pick a side in this mess. America should absolutely still want the smartest foreigners to do tech work. H1B is abusive though, and lowers the standards for our own workers to boot. I remember job hunting and finding so many managers say they would just pilfer from Qualcomm or whoever’s most recent bout of layoffs to get their new employees. It’s ugly in there. STEM degrees don’t guarantee good jobs, especially if you’re a boring white dude, it isn’t like what Silicon Valley nerds saying there’s a perpetual talent shortage.
Well, whatever. What can people shouting at clouds on the internet do to fix this? Ugh.

One interesting thing of going down h1b rabbit holes (for me) was reading up on Canada and the student visa numbers since JT was elected.
Our pop in 2015 was 35 million, today it is 41 million.

You beat me to it. That was indeed a very informative read…so it is *Indian* tech companies operating in the US that are the primary beneficiaries of this thing? That needs to be stopped…and it will be, now that a light has been shone on it.
I will repeat what I have said all along: keep the H1B program…just FIX it. Make it work as it was intended to work, and for the reasons specified.

This will be Trump’s first test of this type. I am certain after listening extensively and looking at data, that both sides have a point. I am sure there is not enough software engineers being produced in the USA, I am also sure that companies will drive a truck through the H1B loophole, because that is in the interest of their shareholders, which is their only true responsibility.
I pray he passes, I am sure there is satisfactory middle ground between both camps, as the deal maker, Trump has to find it and keep the focus on the real “enemy within”, they are legion.

Yes they do. Keep the visas but make sure they work *as intended*, modifying the regulations if necessary to ensure this.
I’m told there are three people in Trump’s inner circle who are being paid by the deep state to take him down. Expect to see another assassination attempt on his life (he’ll survive) and seemingly harmless entrapments that would make him unfit to be sworn in as president. I believe God is protecting Trump and the three will soon trip themselves up, expose who they are, what their plans are, and who is paying for them to betray the president and the U.S.

There is nothing wrong with attracting skilled people (mostly STEM) to come to Canada/USA, on the contrary, it’s a clear plus.

There are some terrible abuses of the H1-B program, notably by outsourcing companies. e.g., firm X decides they want to reduce their IT burn, so they fire all their existing employees and bring in an outsourcing company populated entirely by H1-Bs from the outsourcer’s home country. Sometimes the existing employees have to train their replacements in order to get their severance. This kind of thing has been going on for decades now.
This has nothing to do with getting the top 10% – these are a B tier jobs, nor is it about a lack of US tech workers. It’s all about money. Most of the time it doesn’t work out great for the company because the outsourcer delivers cr**. I’ve seen firms re-in-house within as little as two years. Never seemed to deter the next sucker though.
It’s not really about Americans demanding too much money to do the same jobs either. That’s not the criterion for the H1-B program, it has to be a bona fide dearth of qualified Americans. Even if you did consider that premise, there is no pretense that the fired American workers could sign up for jobs at the outsourcer, even if they were willing to work in sweatshop conditions. It’s also completely ridiculous at this point to pretend that the outsourcer will provide the same quality of work as the original employees did.
It has a corrosive effect on the IT “ecosystem”. If you are a B tier person, or an A tier person just starting out, those B tier jobs are valuable to you. Those people do have value to the industry and to America, particularly the up and comers. You’d figure Trump of all people would understand that given the whole MAGA schtick.
There is ALWAYS a “Judas” or a “Fabian”.

How to deal with them? That is up to your conscience.

As magnificent as Trump is at reading the crowd (like the true entertainer he is) he has surrounded himself with tough advisors who are used to getting what they want. They don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.
Trump is a showman who doesn’t understand the issues or politics for that matter. These are his achilles heel. He is stumbling and both his advisors and the Dems will feed of of it, albeit in different ways.
Immigrants like Musk having no loyalty to the people of the country they move to? Quelle surprise.
