December 26, 2024: Reader Tips

Happy Boxing Day! Just curious, fellow Canadians, without looking anything up, how do you explain this day to Americans?

On this special day for Canadians, we’re going to present you with a number of versions of Little Drummer Boy. Feel free to let us know which one you like best … in addition to any tips you’d like to share.

  1. I believe Boxing Day stems from Edwardian UK where service employment was large and the estates would box up gifts for the servants the day after Christmas. Something like that.

  2. I tell them it’s like their black Friday but the lines are so long and Canada’s so cold that we organize fights by age, sex and weight class right in the lines while we wait so fewer people are frost bitten

    1. From the very first “A very special Christmas” album…. yes I agree.

Yet Sean Quigley has also had my heart as well.

    1. Ugh sure, and by “Ukrainian officials released” you mean “Weekend shift in the nationalized Prighozin bot farm”. Another one of your primitive fakes like the “Zelensky bought a ski resort” fairy tale. Pathetic bot.

      1. You really are a stupid prick, one who can’t read.

I did add (best taken with a grain of salt), or is that too confusing for your rotting bot brain.

The story, retard who also can’t remember, was Zelensky bought a hotel at a ski resort.

You’re too dense to realize that putting a link to something you found interesting doesn’t necessary mean you endorse or buy the info therein, only that it could be interesting to other folks as well.

        1. No subhuman, you’re throwing shit at the wall hoping something will stick. You’re worthless.

First you claimed that Zelensky bought a ski resort, then you claimed he bought a hotel at ski resort, both stories were bullshit.

“Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth” ~ Joseph Goebbels. That is your MO.

          1. I didn’t claim anything turdbrain; I wrote explainers, or summaries, to links that followed.

And your MO is: Mommy, I’m seeing those bots again, please make them go away.

          2. Like I said you’re knowingly spreading bullshit to advance your narrative, you pathetic bot. All your explanations as to what you’re doing, when you’re doing, what you’re doing, are as worthless as you are. You will be reminded about your subhumanity anytime I feel like like doing that.

  3. Is Your China-Made Air Fryer Secretly Recording You?

Shocking news! China spying on you via your AIR FRYER. You’d have to be retarded to connect any appliance, let alone one made in a communist dictatorship, to anything other than an electrical outlet. In fact, just to be safe, don’t buy anything made in China. (Next to impossible I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

  4. If you can stomach it, he drops some fascinating insights in the first 10 to 20 minutes about Liberal machinations and what he spotted in Justin Trudeau from the beginning. Includes bonus slagging of Gerald Butts:

      1. Notice how the left have no qualms about interfering (campaigning) in the politics of either country. It might help explain why Trump enjoys publicly humiliating the Spawn perhaps even beyond his bullying instincts. The Spawn never hid his cheerleading for the Dems. Kinsella has less scruples than a street whore which might explain his political affinity for Kamala.

      2. “Kinsella also worked on the Biden, and Harris campaigns. Yep, he knows how to pick talent. Sarc.”

        And for Hillary before that.

      3. Kinsella should not be taken seriously. He has no particular insight and for as long as he has been around he’s a dim bulb. He’s a liberal to the bone.

    1. Is any attempt being made to link the plane shot down and the sinking of freighter Ursa Major in the Mediterranean Sea?

  5. Little Drummer Boy best version? None of the above. A strong contender for second -worst Christmas song, only surpassed by Paul McCartney’s abomination “Wonderful Christmas time”.

  6. Boxing Day — a statutory holiday for public sector employees and the day we take down the Christmas tree and vacuum up the fir needles. We eat wonderful leftovers and read our new books.

  7. I think that you’ve missed the best version of “Little Drummer Boy” ever made. It was a CBC Halifax production from several years ago, featuring three jewels of the East Coast, Rose Cousins, Jill Barber, and Meaghan Smith, and entitled “A New Kind of Light”. Every track is excellent, but they sing “Little Drummer Boy” without a single “rum-pa-pum-pum”. I can’t really say that they turn it into my favourite Christmas song, only that one can listen to it and get through the whole thing without swearing and groaning.

    1. “The Ontario Liberals are starting to come up with some actually good ideas. ie lessening vampiric housing-related taxes”

Great. Now (interest rates notwithstanding) put a temporary moratorium on immigration to Canada, build that housing and watch the prices fall to a reasonable level. Do it *without* stopping immigration and the prices will start increasing again. No politicians can defeat the cycle of supply and demand.

      1. No that’s insane and evil and will cause mass destruction. Immigration is our super power and we had more of it normalized to population 100 years ago and it did not cause a housing shortage. The UAE is 90% immigrant and doesn’t have a housing shortage like us. Just build.

        1. Just build? Hahahaha ha ha ha … it’s hovering right around $650.00/sq.ft. to build here in N.CA. … and selling for $1,000.00/sq.ft. and up. Everyone is priced out of the market. Hence building is no more than a trickle.

Just Build … sounds like a simplistic socialist slogan, utterly detached from economic reality

  8. I think Boxing Day is observed at least in Virginia. Box up things your new Christmas loot replaced (or just throw it in a bag) and hand them down. Return unwanted new gift items to stores. While in stores stock up on marked-down candy and other junk.

And in cyberspace…writers whose books I’ve reviewed have sent me more books to review!

Am I missing anything? (fomo) Do people do more than that in Canada?

  9. Very many great and solid performances, a variety of genres. But my #1 is Sean Quigley, because I’m a 365 days a year shorts-wearer, except when it dips below -5 C. Anyone drumming away in shorts in the snow (Ok, ok, even staged snow) takes my vote.
