Trump can not force Trudeau to call an election. People keep acting like Trump is Canada’s magical saviour, he’s not. As long as the L-NDP party is in power Canada will suffer because of Trump, and neither Trudeau nor Trump will care.
What should be wondering about is how Trudeau benefits by inaction on the underlying issues. I know there are “joint task forces,” etc. being suggested, but those take a long time to set up. Why is Trudeau dragging his heals? In what way does he personally, financially or other, benefit?
He likes being Prime Minister. Simple, but brutal.
If he wanted to extend his reign he would try to appease Trump. The fallout from the economic hardship could make Kim Campbell look good. Not disagreeing that he is a narcissist, but the course he’s currently plotting seems to diminish him rather than elevate him.
He thinks that all Canadians look down their patrician noses at the US and Trump in particular, like the Laurentian Elite. They don’t understand that they have destroyed the middle class because they are insulated from it, and getting poor does funny shite to peoples smugness. People want that elite smashed, and Ottawa and the Liberal Party are the ultimate symbols of it.
There’s no great mystery here. He’s dragging his heels because he’s deeply reluctant to ever give up power and the Langevin Block.
This is about ego. He wants to be the first Liberal Prime Minister of Canada to win three elections in sequence since Wilfrid Laurier in 1896. He’s been deeply envious of Stephen Harper winning three consecutive elections starting in 2006. He hates Harper, attributing everything bad in Canada to him.
The federal Liberals indulge him because they all know they will be utterly annihilated whenever Canadians vote in the next election. Justatwit is quite literally the only ‘asset’ they have.

Yes, but his popular vote support (and thus, his ability to make radical policy changes) has gone down every time. He started off with a majority, then got on a minority the next time, then an even *weaker* minority the last time.
People are not acting like Trump is Canada’s saviour, they RECOGNIZE he is freedom’s last best chance, as are the courageous people of the US who stand against globalist tyranny.
Canada will be saved it it is worth saving, I’m not holding my breath. Our richest province is now poorer than Mississippi, and all the rest of the 49 states. I think our median incomes are 60% of the US. Are they better educated? No. Do they have more resources? No. Does government take less from them and meddle less in their lives? Yes. Guess what is determinative and what doesn’t matter.

OT: Did anyone notice the jump in the Canadian Dollar, yesterday? It went from $0.69 (lowest since 2002) to $0.74 literally after noon, yesterday, I checked in the morning and it was 70 cents.
My USA relative spotted it as well, called me to ask if Justine was deposed or something?!

That was a Google glitch (it didn’t show up anywhere else), I was about to post this while asking if The Turd™ had resigned, then checked at the normal currency exchanges and found no actual change.

Sorry, that did not happen. The C$ ended the day at .6960. It didn’t go up to .74 and then drop again. But there is one currency converter site showing the C$ trading at .74 while all the others are showing it trading at .6961. So there is a strange glitch in the ether. Check Bloomberg or Yahoo Finance. Google is wrong.
It costs a $1.47 to buy a US buck at the BNS. Quoting the overnight trading rate means nothing to someone heading south on vacation.
People need to learn a simple formula: USD = 1.00/CAD. This will tell you how much Canadian currency you need to get one US dollar.
1.00/0.6960 = $1.44 (you will always pay more because the money traders need their profit)
This is the legacy of the “budget will balance itself” and “hire a journalist to run Canada’s finances”. A 45% drop in the value of our currency.
