  1. Maybe it’s because I’m an engineer, but this one of my many pet peeves: It should be USD/CAD, not the other way around.
    All these trading platforms need to be reprogrammed!

    (Ok, I know that in the finance world CAD/USD means “US dollars per Canadian dollars”, but this is illogical and incompatible with any STEM format/unit – e.g. m/s means meters per second, not seconds per meter)

    1. The rate shown by these charts is what used to be called the overnight trading rate, we the people never get that rate. At present it costs me 1.433 per US dollar at the BNS.

    2. It reads however you want it to read. All the currency pairs can be shown either the ‘right’ way or its inverse. No need for reprogramming, just a couple clicks

        1. FX is a bit weird, I guess. Everywhere else it is, like say $/L of gas, etc. Km/h of speed. But in FX I believe it is USD you can buy per CAD, but written backwards: CAD/USD?

          So yeah, you read FX pairs “backwards”

  2. Considering that Powell recently cut rates in the US, I might have thought that the Canadian dollar would at least stabilize. But the damage done by JT is really becoming obvious now that investment dollars have a better place to earn a return.

  3. I welcome this. I want Canada to collapse. I want a new Canadian Republic just like the USA. I want an end to Royal fealty and the peasant mentality of Canada. I want to elect each and every one of my political executives. I want the political elites working the back of garbage trucks across Canada. I want justice. I want the Canada that my parents immigrated to back again. I want Canada to be a nation of strong independent winners and not a horde of socialist losers. I want all trade unions abolished and banned constitutionally. I want freedom!

  4. Don’t know where you live John but if it’s in one of the western colonies our fate is sealed without men and women with backbone and vision to create a new country of their own.
    The US fought for their independence. Canada demanded their independence.
    Why not an independent Western Canada?

The die was cast in 1776 when the Loyalists of Canada picked the wrong side and acted like house negro trustees and defended their slave master plantation owners against the abolition of slavery. The winners of the Revolutionary War claimed and maintained all their Rights in perpetuity while the lowly Canadian peasant just eats the Royal gruel served to him in the most docile obedient manner possible. Louis Riel is turning in his grave.

    And when we produce nothing of value for internal consumption,why would we be surprised by economic collapse?

  7. Funny how this chart is exactly the inverse of the violent crime chart for the last ten years in Canada. Almost as if the two outcomes have a common cause.

  9. Remember the petro-dollar and that NDP leader when the dollar was $0.67 to the USD? Imagine increasing Canada’s oil & gas exports and seeing the dollar rise.

  11. Not a lot of good news in the Canadian economy. Federal debt and deficits are rising with government spending out of control. Personal debt is record breaking. Crazy regulations and high taxes inhibit private investment. The Green Fanatics in the Liberal, NDP and Bloc are doing everything possible to destroy the oil and gas industry. Trade with foreign countries has been negatively affected by the diplomacy failures of Trudeau. I assume the Canadian credit rating will be downgraded next.

    I’d like to put in a silver lining but there isn’t one. Until the economy wrecking Trudeau Liberals are voted out, Canada (and the CAD) will continue to circle the drain at an ever increasing speed.

    1. Slight correction, LC, there’s no good news in the Canadian economy. What we’ve got right now is a rather heavy carbon tax which will be increasing without any respite by this schedule.

      Given the recessionary effect of all taxes on an economy, this shows that Canada will be in a non-stop, worsening recession for the foreseeable future. The only escape from this misery is, as you rightly noted, the complete expulsion of the federal Liberals, NDP and Green Party from having any role in the governing of the country.

      1. It’s pretty grim news. I’m old enough to remember the last time Canada had severe economic problems and when Saskatchewan had even worse economic troubles. I don’t think enough Canadians understand how quickly things can reach an economic breaking point.

        Canadians and Canada should be the envy of the world in economic wealth and standard of living but that requires a reasonably intelligent government and rational voters. Malicious, corrupt politicians and unwise, gullible voters are a terrible combination.

Agreed; corrupt politicians + corrupted voters + permanent recession = what Peking and Trudeau want for Canada, in their endeavor to undermine the resolve of The People in the western hemisphere. Envy of the World was the course Canada was on but became unpossible after Pierre and his Laurentian Elite who continue to (correctly) see their party & status as dependent on a divided people. It’s evil, it’s deep set, and will require extraordinary efforts to extract.

Yep and when those politically engineered divisions produce social instability, stupid economic policies (hobbling the oil and gas industry), ethnic groups attacking each other, national unity problems and socioeconomic class divisions…the Liberal government will act shocked and proclaim “they take these matters very seriously”. Then they’ll continue to stoke those divisions for political gain. The Liberal’s paid media will blame Conservatives for pointing out how the Liberals broke Canada through their divisive policies.

  14. In my dream scenario the result of the next election will be the LPC reduced to two seats
    Papineau, and University Rosedale
    Then he will have to sit next to Elizabeth May on one side and Freeland on the other for the remainder of his political career.
    That and because some genius in the LPC kicked all the senators out of the LPC caucus, there is no precedent that would allow the LPC be given official party status even though they fell below the threshold requirement.
