      1. Simon happens to be right. There have been many, many hurricanes far worse than this year’s events. Hazel in 1954 and Katrina in 2005 were far worse. The great hurricane of 1900 destroyed the city of Galveston, killing at least 8,000.

         Try reading some Dawkins, who does a great job pointing out possible/probable errors in translation and interpretation of the bible.
         Then google up how many historians believe that what is written in today’s bible is not the same as the original.
         On that note , it is very likely that the RCC injected 666, the number of the beast, just to demonize math, and by extension science. Because jailing scientist was costly, and quite possibly counter productive, as people would talk about tat, and science would get a free pass.

         2. NME, talk about critical thinking errors. Your hatred of the Bible and God are becoming legendary around these parts.

            1) What was the age of the 7 pairs of the clean animals and 2 pairs of the unclean animals? If they were young, how much food would they require, then? (Elephants, Buffalo, etc?)

            2) As all the animals were in complete darkness in the ark, would they have been in a relatively dormant state, much like out bears during hibernation, making food consumption and minimal?

            3) Eight people were eye witnesses, therefore we are all descendants of them, they told their history to every person in their lineage during the remainder of their lives. That narrative was repeated 1000’s of times, drilling in the details of what actually happened.

            Critical thinking most definitely must be applied, and your ability to expand and be flexible in considering the options which are outside of your biases.

            Please thoughtfully consider just these points.

            1. Points thoughtfully considered and found risible. Flood stories abound in ancient religions, probably as ancient civilizations were usually founded close to major rivers that were prone to flood. Mesopotamia on the Tigris and Euphrates, Egypt on the Nile, in India the Ganges and Indus Rivers. One does not hate God by not taking the Old Testament as literal truth.

            2. When one encounters traditional tales that don’t seem to make literal realistic sense, it’s sensible to ask how they might have been understood originally. There clearly was some kind of flood that had world-remaking effects, and the Noah story accounts for them symbolically. Whether it was ever intended to be taken literally is not something you can just assume.

   2. Reports are Cooper was hit by a piece of styrofoam. Lucky for Cooper, a lot of debris from Helene was taken to landfills per Governor DeSantis orders. In some (Democrat controlled) counties, landfills were closed in accordance with FEMA’s draconian rules. It seems the SCOTUS Chevron decision concerning federal agency rulemaking played a role in FL’s overrule of FEMA landfill regulations and allowed local authorities to clear cities of debris piles that could become missiles during the latest hurricane. Hooray for common sense.

9. Anyone here read the Ethical Skeptic? If so you’ll know about his lengthy article where he outlines a possible explanation for the biblical flood; namely that periodically the entire planet undergoes an axial shift, which displaces the oceans. The pyramids play a central role in explaining this.

   I’ll be honest, significant chunks of it are over my head, but it has a strong whiff of plausibility about it, especially when you look, really LOOK, at those erosion markings on the pyramids, and have to admit it’s exceedingly difficult to explain them as being caused by anything other than submersion.

   1. I’m exceedingly skeptical about that story.
      A lot more would be wiped out by the planet flipping its axis, and I can’t think of anything that would cause an axial shift other than a collision larger than the one that did in the dinosaurs.

   2. Another major issue with this theory is that there are no writings mentioning the pyramids that can be provably written before Napoleon.

      The same Napolean who was accompanied to Egypt by thousands of scholars and tradesmen, along with his army. The same army that was later deserted there by Napolean.

11. For those who read the Bible, the Hebrew word translated as “world” in the flood account is “eretz” which means “land” and not “world”. The people who translated the Bible picked and chose when to translate the same word to mean “land” or “world” to fit their narrative. From what I’ve seen, it looks very much like the translators purposely mistranslated much of it, and colluded with others to mistranslate it more-or-less uniformly.

    For those who have an interest in what the Bible actually says, check out The Obry Projekt by Jon Machtemes. He analyses the underlying “Obry” (which is entirely unrelated from the contrived modern-day “Hebrew” used in Israel) to begin to understand what it actually says.

    The same words are translated dozens of different ways depending on the desired narrative. Jon instead reasons that each underlying word can only mean one thing, and so piece-by-piece is discovering what it truly says.

    Uh, no. The word translated “day” for the six “days” is YOM, which means a period of time, any period of time, from 12 hours to infinity. Also, the word in the genealogy part is not “father”, but can be grandfather or even great great…great grandfather. So, no 2348 BC. The ancient bones are exactly as old as we dated them.

    Note where this is, east of where two of the four rivers said to meet at the Garden of Eden met. We have been assuming that the Bible was talking about where the rivers start, it was talking about where they ended up. After all, where do they actually start, this little stream or that one? We do know where they end, they get big there. So this lost civilization would be “east of Eden”, where people were said to live. And the flood was simple, the first (in human history) ice age ended.

    When ice ages end, the sea raises hundreds of feet, eventually 400 feet total. This area, where all the people lived, would then go under water.

    We have large brained humanoid skeletons as old as 4 million years. Thus, this flood could have been that far back or a few hundred thousand years earlier. But, you say, those were not humans, they were Neanderthals! We have their genes, they were different in one way, they lived much longer lifespans, result, bigger, thicker bones. All the ancient tales say so. Later, they mutated (due to only a few left after the flood, genetic drift) and had much shorter lifespans, and far more generations in the same time frames, and simply outbred the Neanderthals.

    This is the actual evidence from ancient sources and evidences and the Bibles actual words (it was not written in English) as well as ancient tales of other cultures. This 2348 BC and “six days” nonsense is a modern fable made by the ignorant.

    Oh, and in Hebrew, “world” mean all or any part of it.

    1. Further the underlying word translated as “rivers” is a different word from many other words also translated as rivers. And if it were rivers, that’d be mighty strange, because a river doesn’t split into many rivers – the opposite is generally the case.

       If instead the underlying word (I believe it is “ner” – using English letter equivalents for Obry, just taking this from memory) better describes a body of water, then it would better describe the Great Lakes – with Superior feeding the other lakes.

       Of course, that then raises a host of questions and problems with the history we’re taught.

    And Desantis handled a ‘journalist’ who suggested CC malarkey by listing the same historical events .
