In this ten minute Frontier Centre interview, retired judge Brian Giesbrecht discusses the increasingly popular “land back” movement and what it might mean for Canadian property owners. In a nutshell, the news isn’t good, particularly since Canadian courts are openly siding with the collectivists.

I was born in Canada. What does that make me? European?
A Mennonite name.
Currently one of previous homelands is the front line of the war in Ukraine.
Guess what, I care as much about giving back my land in Canada as the Russians and Ukrainians care about giving it back to the Mennonites. In the land game, occupation in 10/10th of the game.
Accepting the premise that Crown land is Indian land negates all legitimacy of the nation of Canada, its provinces, municipalities and laws and mandates such as tax paying. We would therefore all be under Indian law implying that we could just kill off those tribes claiming land we wish to occupy and return to slave taking. The best part would be to instantaneously un-employ all bureaucrats and especially the judiciary, perhaps take them as slaves.
I am part native and part white, can appropriate my land from myself?
Well, that will certainly lower the value of property in Canada. Finally the Trudeau government has done something to lower the high cost of housing!
If they take land back, that means we also take back the equivalent tax dollars, benefits, and program costs spent on them, right?
Health care, policing, social program costs? You owe us bigly.
Don’t have the money to pay us back?
That’s ok…. we’ll just take that Ford F150. And that hunting rifle. Oh, and that housing and infrastructure on the Rez. It may be crappy, but you can always go back to your traditional ways.
Hey, we could let half our social workers and cops go, too. Another money saver.
Remember…..you guys signed those treaties, too. If you get to abandon your side, we get to abandon ours.
And yes, I do have my Metis card.
Really, its a way to circumvent the law.. Just make a new country inside your country :).. For whatever side door reasons you can imagine.. I’m sure the people on the TAKE figure this is a great idea..
Dovetails nicely with PM Fideaux and his U.N. marxist confederates to herd rural folk into dystopian urban dense 30 minute cities.
We’ll piss and moan about the pennies on the dollar in compensation and they’ll tell us it’s penance.
We live about 5 miles from the rez…don’t think we don’t ponder this scenario from time to time.
Rule #1 – Find an artifact or a bone… STHU and put it out with the bluebox.
Give the “land back” to the caribou and wolverines. They were here first.
Damn colonizers coming over that land bridge.
Look man, I’m just a guy in a little house on the prairies, all I have from a lifetime of labor. If I don’t cough up over half my earnings in taxes – Federal, profvincial and municipal – and pay more taxes on what’s left, The Man will take it all away and put me in prison. And sell it back to a “newcomer”. Anybody else got a better deal, I’m listening.
I don’t think most people know just how bad this is, at least in BC. I mentioned the reality TV series Jade Fever that followed along as people prospected, staked claims, and mined jade in northern BC. The Tahltan nation complained, and the BC government promptly expropriated all claims and the show ended. That was some years ago and now the BC government wants to extend this policy to other parts of the province.
I notice that retired judge Giesbrecht mentions UNDRIP which the Trudeau government signed, and if I remember gained valuable political points by making sure everyone knew the evil Harper government had not signed, and they assured us was a mere formality that had no legal repercussions whatsoever. Fast forward to today where the Queen Charlotte Islands aka Haida Gwaii are being turned over to the Haida nation and private property owners are in limbo since they have no assurance that they own their land. Is this in the news?
Not really, and the federal and the BC provincial governments want more of this. Did we not just recognize the American Lakota Sioux of Custer massacre fame? Why yes and the feds aim to give the Lakota back pay. How about the Sinixt Nation of southern BC who disbanded voluntarily and the last member moved to the Colville Reserve in the 1950’s. Well, the Sinixt won in court, and they are now a recognized nation in Canada. At least 1500 members of the Colville Confederated Tribes claim to be members, and they’ve opened an office in Nelson BC. to presumably muster their expansive land claims. We will have to wait to see what compensation will be due. From what I can tell, these court cases that the natives are winning handily, are funded by shadowy environmental NGO’s and possibly foreign governments. Will you own your land? Who knows because in BC on actual Indian land you can only purchase leases and cannot legally own land. So … I leave you to ponder this.
Of course! People have been saying, and I agree with them, that the whole rationale and motivation behind the so-called “Truth and Reconciliation” commission, and the uproar over the phony residential school debacle was about the new communist regime that is the lie-beral government taking away our individual rights, including our property rights!
This country is going full-on, defacto, Marxist/Communist. The government no longer gives a hoot about our individual rights. I left Quebec, because the government of the day valued collective rights (the rights of the survival of the French Language) over our individual rights (the right to speak, converse, and do business in the language of our choice), and now the same mentality is corrupting our federal government. The government still recognizes individual rights, but they don’t value individual rights, they see individual rights as an impediment to their agenda of complete and total communist control, and therefore the concept of individual rights, which includes property rights, must be removed.
We are living in a modern-day Soviet Union! This country must wake up. If there’s any hope of preserving our individual rights, the country must be restructured. (I am choosing my words very carefully.) We cannot just simply vote our way out of this. Once the government gains full control, you will not be able to get them to give it up. Just look at what happened during Covid!
We had more rights in this country under the BNA Act. The shïtlib “constitution” enshrined by Scumbag Trudeau Sr. says we need “Peace and Good Government”, and jack-squat about property rights.
It’s not even useful as toilet paper.
