Well, whenever I hear the Edmund Fitzgerald, I always think of Lightfoot’s other great maritime ballad, the Yarmouth Castle:

Always thought they’d make a great A-side and B-side. The sinking of the Yarmouth Castle was a bit of a six-day wonder in its time, and a Canadian crewman earned some high award for his heroism as the ship burned and sank. I loved the way Lighfoot just ignored all that, wrapping it up in the last two lines. He was looking at something else entirely.
