JPMorgan Chase, a bank, calculates that Alphabet, Amazon’s cloud arm (aws), Meta and Microsoft consumed 90 terawatt-hours (twh) of electricity in 2022, as much as Colombia. And that was mostly before Chatgpt touched off the ai revolution in November that year. The ensuing hoopla led the International Energy Agency (iea), an official forecaster, to predict that data centres (including those dedicated to ai and equally energy-hungry cryptocurrencies) will eat up more than 800twh globally in 2026, double the amount in 2022…

That’s OK.
The AIs are better than us, smarter than us, and planned to replace us in all productive jobs. Like welding and operating a hoe.
What’s not to like when you love Big Brother? (note- this is an intelligence test.)
Will the owners of the Alphabet, farm out data centre locations to areas like China, which burns more coal than anywhere else in the world because it’s cheaper than running anything electrical in Calif?
AB has 1100 years of coal for electrical power generation if anyone sees fit to restart or “unconvert” those converted coal plants which now burn natural gas.
This seems like a good week for the western Canadian Premiers to decide which nuclear power generators they will be building.
We DO have “all of Hell for a basement”, but some politicians seem to want it to be their waiting rooms instead. (channelling Golum) Government now needs to decide whether the carbonees that weel bring power are worth the price. They are preciousssssss
Off-shoring carbon emissions is the pinnacle of Climate-Industrial-Complex virtue. We all know third-world power plants are cleaner and more virtuous than those in the (formerly) civilized world; don’t we?
I drive past a big data center or server farm or something every morning on my way home from work.
Can feel the roar of the fans over the car engine when stopped at the light nearby.
The mist coming off the cooling towers on a cold morning is impressive.
I thought it was some kind of power plant or heavy industry when I first saw it- quite the opposite. Sucking power to produce nothing but steam and transgender tiktok videos I assume.
Does this mean FrightMask Geeebows days are numbered?
Around the world a data center opens up every three days.
Its a collision course between reliable power for citizens or for data.
Not both.
And they’ve warned President Vegetable and his handlers, but gas-fired power plants bad.
Some idiots think giant batteries will help – because they’re so prevalent.
I think one of the big AI companies in the US recently opened up a data center right beside a nuclear power plant.
The citizenry in the States will have to set their AC to 85 in the summer and that still won’t help the inevitable rolling blackouts as the Left pushes their Back-to-caves agenda with bird and whale killing windmills and heatsink solar panel deserts.
Your data will be stored in the cloud and you’ll be riding a generator bicycle to access all your photos on your I phone.
800 twh is a fair bit of electricity. South Africa uses 0.25 twh for example. So our data centres are probably consuming more electricity than the entire African continent. Go whites!!
But we NEED our TikTok videos.
They used to use more, but their system is collapsing.
Steve – global wind power production was 906 GW in 2022. It will have to increase by over 800 times by 2026 just to cover AI and Tik Tok videos.
I still have a massive stockpile of incandescents that I purchased a decade or so ago. Come and take them Dementia Joe!
And the people (Zuck, Gates, Google, Amazon) needing all this data and power are the biggest virtue signalers for climate change.
That’s 91GW continual power
And greeners think EV cars will be welcomed by an adoring public, NOT.
A 350KW super charger is like adding 10 homes to a subdivision.
Greeners need to be removed from every policy table on the planet because they are destroying it.
Oh noes! The internet is using around 1% of the global power generation! We’re all gonna die!
This is the kinda stuff that the green zealots like to publish.
Time for a Butlerian Jihad.
I have to conserve energy for bad AI generated porn and poorly generated book reports.
