  1. “For weeks, First Nation members, DFO marine mammal experts, whale scientists and boat and machine operators gathered in the small community of about 200 people to plan how to free the calf. Those discussions resulted in multiple rescue missions — all of them unsuccessful”.

“Killer whale calf trapped in B.C. swims out of lagoon on her own”.

This is a metaphor for the Liberal government and their allies in the media and other organizations trying to help our economy, our housing crises, our everything.

    1. The only answer to that is more CBC! I wonder how much more money Shiny Pony is going to give them?

  2. Robert … the instantly recognizable lead hook played on the 12-string is pure Dan Peek … who gave America all of their infectious musical hooks. Sorry to say, but HE was the primary musical talent that propelled the band to stardom. America were never the same when Dan left the band to (re) devote his life to Christ and Christian music. As a Christian, I’m conflicted. I should be thrilled that he grew jaded by the sex, drugs, and rock and roll … but I cannot help but admire how God used him to create timeless, even … everlasting music with America. Something about being “in” the world but not “of” the world. And Dan’s untimely death at age 60. How sad. But I still marvel at his work in America.

    1. Kenji – Did not know that. I think the lead singer of Grand Funk, Mark Farner, followed a similar path. My favorite America song was Sister Golden Hair. This isn’t the best version of it but you can see the band play it which is kind of cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ70IIC-fhs I think this was the official music video.

      1. A lot of the tv music shows were canned music, and often guitarists didn’t even plugin their strats or LesPauls.
In your vid, the instruments are plugged in and I would say the proof that it was live music at the 1:43 mark, were the base player is clapping to the music. Which is definitely not in the standard recording.

  3. And watching that clip from The Old Gray Whistle Test of 3 acoustic guitars pounding out a raw and gritty version of Sandman in 1971 … made me recall the sublime trio of acoustic guitars of Humble Pie (an impossibly young Peter Frampton just shredding it on lead acoustic guitar) with their interpretation of The Yardbirds For Your Love … in 1970

I can’t help but wonder if America (in London) were inspired by Humble Pie’s STELLAR acoustic blues opus.

  4. Re road trips – this will (understandably) be unknown to all of you I suspect, but going north from Adelaide, South Australia through the Clare Valley, the Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound and eventually to Arkaroola in the north Flinders is amazing. It’s only 650 kms, but the different environments one encounters and the exhilarating views combine with the solitude in a wonderful fashion. I’ve driven in Canada – absolutely amazing country – but the Australian outback is unique too.

    1. I’ve made four trips to Australia from Saskatchewan. I’ve travelled New South Wales, south from Sydney along the coast all the way to Melbourne, through the ‘Australian Alps’, walked the trail to the top of Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak, spent a week in Canberra, been to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney (Govett’s Leap is ‘my’ pilgrimage site, every trip), took the Giant Staircase, about 900 steps – down only, at the Three Sisters, and took the inclined train back up to the top of the valley. I’ve been to the Hunter Valley wine region. I’ve been to Adelaide, but didn’t venture much further north than Tanunda, about 50 kms away. On one trip, I saw an Australian Rules Football match in Melbourne.
I’ve also travelled the west coast, from Perth south, hugging the coast all the way to Albany, and north from Perth beyond Geraldton to Kalbarri. I love the west coast. The people seem to have an attitude and spirit similar to Canadian prairie people. Most of their tourists are from Asia, so they really roll out the red carpet for North Americans…my motel in Geraldton even gave me a free supper! In my opinion, the Indian Ocean highway between Lancelin and Kalbarri should be considered one of the ‘great drives’, especially a hike at Nambung National Park, also known as ‘The Pinnacles’. That place could have been used as a set for the Lords of the Rings! I miss Australian meat pies, and my favourite beer is Cooper’s Pale Ale. I haven’t ventured into the outback or Queensland yet, that’s for my next trips, possibly this coming winter. The New Years Eve fireworks from Sydney Harbour Bridge, and Steve Irwin’s Australian Zoo near Brisbane are on my bucket list.
Internal air travel is relatively cheap compared to Canada. Take advantage of it!

    1. I guess they became embarrassed about the nurses being told to ignore the druggies and the 4inch knives. It’s nice to see the NDP admit for once that they screwed up.

    1. David: Shelagh looks like the poster-person for a liberal arts university recruiting campaign. But she wasn’t the super aggressive CBC-Radio hostess who treated people who questioned climate science like they were baby killers, was she?

      1. I believe you are thinking of Anna Maria Tremonti, a former host of CBC Radio’s morning show The Current. She is arguably one of the most aggressive leftists ever to work for CBC.

        1. Ottawa – Yes, you nailed it, Aggressive Maria Tremont. She wasn’t interested in the truth or the principles of journalism. Thank you.

  5. Nice map showing which U.S. states are gaining population, which are losing people:
    https://www.newsweek.com/population-map-reveals-states-growing-shrinking-1893641

But the article accompanying the map is poorly written. It interviews a brain-dead sociology professor who claims, mid-way through the piece, that political climate doesn’t play a role in migration. If it did, he says, people would be moving from Texas and Florida to California and New York. Got that?

    1. David: I wonder if the brain-dead sociology professor noticed (or subconsciously drew it that way) that the map shows declining states as blue and increasing as red? An almost perfect alignment with their political affiliation. Maybe the term political climate means safe for sociology professors to him?
Also, the article notes “people move from one state to another for jobs, lower cost of housing, lower state taxes, better levels of living. Here Texas and Florida have all the benefits, and California and New York don’t.”. Do you think political climate might have played a role in those factors?

      There is none so blind…

    2. That has to be one of the most disconnected statements I’ve read in a long time. People are moving to Texas and Florida from California because of lower taxes and more opportunity. Because of politics.

“Although it may seem surprising, Poston [the idiot] noted that political climates in each state don’t play a huge role in population shifts.”

    1. But I thought the money flowed directly to Zelensky?

It’s hard to keep track of all the narratives.

      1. I’m pretty sure Zelensky took his cut.
Multi-million dollar estates in Florida would suggest that to be true.

  6. Haven’t seen it posted here, might have missed it. Anyone see the Seattle sex-sting footage of a guy getting filled with lead outside a hotel room? Suspect had a gun, but if you look closely, it appears he was pulling it to show the officers – no grip, that he had a gun. The two cops both had guns drawn nevertheless unloaded on him. Turns out the dead suspect was a doctor in the Navy who liked the hookers. I have no real comment on the matter other than to say, good thing the suspect was white.
