Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

War is hell.
hmmm…sure are a lot of military-age men at that bar.
Any males that show up are sent to the Eastern front with low odds of survival. The hookers likely get a commission for every John they turn in to the regime.
Send them ALL to the Front! Now! As my grandchildren will be paying for these AWOL soldiers to fight the Russian Homophobes. My grandkids lives are impacted … so should the lives of these Partiers.
Do you know what military age is in Ukraine?
Yes. Any age that can still get out of a chair … because Ukraine is locked in a desperate existential threat to their very existence … right?
Military age begins at conception.
Tonight the Ukraine bar, tomorrow the Gaza beach. What a great time to be alive…….
Didn’t Bono hold a concert in the underground subway station, there?
Stop it already – it’s a phoney war. I mean, seriously, I beg of you… for the love of god and all that is good, wake the F up! From the “Ghost of Kiev” to the mythical “Spring Offensive”…just effing stop this madness!!!

I just ran your comment through the Google AI program and it labeled your comments “dangerous, unhinged, misinformation” and that I should report you to the authorities. Hahaha ha ha ha … oh, mark my words … it’s going to come to that.
All Wars Are Bankers’ Wars:

Just so you know, there was no drinking in England, or Germany or any of the occupied territories in WW2.
And none in Korea during that conflict.
And not a drop was drunk in Viet Nam.
It seems that there is a bit of an irrational enthusiasm for anti-Ukraine sentiment here.
I ask why?
Because we had more important things to spend several hundred billion on, like the security of our own border?
Wait. What? I thought this was the “Foreign WAR Funding and Border Security Act”? It’s not funding the hardening of our Southern Border?
You mean this Act was worded like The “Inflation Reduction Act” … words that mean the precise opposite of their dictionary definition?
“It seems that there is a bit of an irrational enthusiasm for anti-Ukraine sentiment here.”
No, it does not. It seems that the constant promotion of this war by those who are making BILLIONS from it and the useful idiots who blindly support them are causing thinking people to withdraw their support (and Ukraine’s rampant corruption has not helped matters). Those who then attempt to gaslight us by accusing us of being “pro-Russian” or “Putin stooges” make us even more determined to bring a stop to this unwinnable war and *save lives* in the process.
You’re welcome.
You are a pro russian Pootin stooge who consistently has been running interference for russia’s latest genocide. Also IQ scale starts at 1 Freddie.
Yawn.
Uh, oh, I see a funny name coming. Try and be strong.
“Uh, oh, I see a funny name coming. Try and be strong.”
Good one…:)
Fine to enjoy a drink, relieve stress. The question is, is it excessive? Is foreign money that was supposed to be spent on desperately needed ammo being used for bottles of champagne and hookers at some gangster’s nightclub? – while bars and restaurants in the rest of the world struggle and close
I learned how to chill a can of beer when I was little from a Vietnam vet.
He claimed they would helicopter in giant blocks of ice and cases of warm beer. Showed me how to spin a warm can against a block of ice, make a groove. Ice cold in two minutes.
“Is foreign money that was supposed to be spent on desperately needed ammo being used for bottles of champagne and hookers”
The US doesn’t give money for ammunition. It gives ammunition – American ammunition reaching it’s best before date at first. It also gives timed out equipment. It gives relatively few billions in cash to maintain the Ukrainian civil service and pensions. The per capita income of Ukraine is third world so it doesn’t take much to keep them going.

” bit of an irrational enthusiasm for anti-Ukraine sentiment here.”
Hahahahahaha, ewe bee phunny BOY. Bata off boy.
There is some anti WEF in here, and that plus money laundering for demoKKKrap reelection, is what this war is all about.
It’s not anti Ukraine. It’s anti who the FK is running the show. Our country seems to be going in a circle , and even after an election one has to wonder if it won’t continue.
Myself when it comes to Ukraine it comes second to our sht show.
In Vietnam, we were given a 2 beer a day allowance. It was part of SPs. It meant sundries and something. There was candy, smokes, long time ago. Memories are fading.
Why, if you were getting as rich as Putin is making me, you’d be enthused too. Shitloads of Russian money, man! That’s what turns my anti-Ukrainian crank. Why, I’m so anti-Ukrainian, I want their kids to stop getting killed! Yes, I’m vile, but it pays!
Just remember … Tucker Carlson has been labeled a “Putin-loving, Ukraine Denier” … you don’t want to get cancelled like Tucker, eh? So no more anti-war talk … Chuck Schumer says it’s … un-American
Cucker Farson is a “Putin-loving, Ukraine Denier”, also a cheap whore.

Bars are important, essential businesses in War.
They allow some form of entertainment and escapism, and contribute to poor impulse control and bad decisions. This is perfect for increasing military recruitment and boosting fertility rates.
Meanwhile in the top 102 clubs and bars in Tel Aviv:
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g293984-Activities-c20-t99-Tel_Aviv_Tel_Aviv_District.html
OMG, should we stop supporting Israel? Or should we stop being so pathetic?
Bars themselves aren’t the point.
That there are more now, during the war.
Can you pay a fee and dodge the draft?
Others in the thread have explained why bars do well in wartime. Israel is always at war, partially or fully. Young Israelis tend to party well.
Yes, there is corruption in Ukraine and it is likely that well connected people can avoid the draft – but they’re far more likely to just leg it westwards than to hang around in bars with off duty active servicemen full of drink. Note also that the military draft in Ukraine is age 25 and up (was 27 until this month).
18 – 25 is probably the peak client group for bars and clubs.
Hi Kate – my understanding is that drinking, partying (and an increase in the quantum of sex) typically goes up quite a bit in times of war. This seems to be borne out by the historical record.
Whoever thought that is news has no knowledge of history.
Soldiers get leave, and while on leave those soldiers get drunk, gamble, and seek female companionship. It has happened in every war in history, the only thing different now is the “music” really sucks.
During WWII in Halifax, where the ships were gathered into convoys to cross the U-boat infested Atlantic, the bars and brothels experienced boom times. In the winter of 1915, the first Canadian soldiers to arrive in England were living in camps on Salisbury Plain. Since they were unable to prevent masses of bored and wet soldiers from venturing into the local villages in search of ale the commanders set up beer tents and contracted local brewers to deliver beer to the camp.
certainly Saigon was evidence of that
1. There is zero evidence that there is any connection between western support for Ukraine and bar scene in Kyiv.
2. Thanks to the way Ukraine deployed air defences Kyiv is much safer than anywhere else in Ukraine and a large number of Ukrainians who fled Siberian Mongol occupation found refuge in Kyiv. More people => more bars.
3. How dare those Ukrainians go to bars instead of … what exactly?
4. There is no conscription for Ukrainains under 25 years old. Until few weeks ago it used to under 27.
5. At times of war people get rotated from the front lines. Those who get back home go drinking and whoring. It has been true since the first army in history of the planet rotated troops from the front line.
All in all this must be the lamest attempt to discredit Ukrainian struggle yet. Nothingburger. Film at 11.
The breakdown of US aid to Ukraine, not sure what any of this has to do with the club scene:

https://united24media.com/life-in-ukraine/what-will-the-funds-from-the-ukraine-aid-package-be-used-for-after-biden-signs-131
Can’t believe how fast that money got there and to open up night clubs that quickly
If I were in Kiev, I’d need a drink too.
