How on earth could we have seen St. Louis’ collapse coming?

Man, am I sure glad I visited the St. Louis Gateway Arch about 15 years ago … and BTW … the downtown was already giving me the creeps.
Not St. Louis, but Detroit: I used to work for a tech startup that had its HQ in downtown Detroit. Each summer they flew everyone in to the head office for a meet & greet. Last summer a group of employees left the office to go get lunch somewhere nearby, and while waiting at the traffic light one of the employees was attacked from behind, completely unprovoked, by a homeless psycho. Middle of the work day, broad daylight.
Oh god, I love Judy Garland. What a voice and beauty.
That’s what happens when you chase out “dirty” manufacturing jobs and pretend that everyone can work in a nice clean service industry.
I think that was the plan of the great Jean Chretien. He also said that Canada would then become a net importer of food. True Dough will have everyone working for the federal government.
I think it’s the idiotic vision of all green lefties: everyone is going to be a tour guide, an organic farmer, a key-board tickler, or a solar/wind technician.
a skit from a few years ago:
Local Party Chief: Welcome comrade, what career have you decided on?
Local: I have decided to be an artist.
LPC: Unfortunately comrade, we already have our allotment of Artists, we have decided you will be a ditch digger, here is your approved ditch spoon.
Closest i will get to St Louis is watching Meet Me in St Louis…
Ah well, Im good with that.
Teranna will be just like that once the commey gets done!
St Louis has been losing population since the 1950’s…..
Worse is East St Louis Illinois. Census: 1950 – 82,366, 2020 – 18,469.
That’s the largest stripper migration in world history.
St Louis – Home of Bud Light
Where better to can water than along the banks of the Mississippi?
I’m sure it’s quite tasty after being flushed through several cities along the way including MPLS/StP…….
St Louis – Home of Highest Murder rate in country:
1940 – 87% White
2024 – 43% White
I’m sure there is no connection whatsoever

A funny byline, you are what you vote for. Kind of thinking the whole voting apparatus may be a farce, especially in the wonderful electronic election Era.
I read the WSJ article.
I also read one not so long ago about FT. Lauderdale and the opposite taking place.
A lot of voters need to be caned until cause and effect becomes plain and simple.
Because it is.
many office districts are the same way in cana_duh
I know a boiler service guy that does office towers, says downtown calgary is a ghost town
At least the parking is affordable.
And yet they keep on voting for it. If they move to get away from it, they vote for it where they’ve arrived. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results? When I hear stories of women in NYC getting randomly punched in the face, I wonder who they voted for and who they will they vote for next time.
Has been several years since I have been near downtown Edmonton ( 8 blocks west). Was a wedding reception in some kind of art gallery. Each smoke break one could not help but notice the lack of old stock Canadian pedestrian traffic in the vicinity. Driving around Roger’s Place is a depressing scene as well.
Yup, and our illustrious council is continually talking about ”revitalizing” downtown.
And then we get into the bike lanes.
Now we are having to listen to them drone on and on about knives.
Seems knives were restricted in London England. And nothing changed.
Dumb f__ks!
“In the immortal words of Jerry Seinfeld: Yeah, that’s a shame.”
Tend to agree with Jerry’s words in context to this article. Although I liked his series don’t think much of his politics but that’s just my opinion.
