A government comedian from Trudeau’s CBC state broadcaster attended a Pierre Poilievre rally last week, aiming to ambush the Conservative Party leader. […] That video bombed on social media — it was a partisan attack on Poilievre, of course, and more to the point, it just wasn’t funny.
But I noticed something at 1:15 in the video: a “jump cut” edit — the CBC deleted part of the video but didn’t cover their tracks. What were they hiding?
It obviously wasn’t Poilievre saying something embarrassing, or they would have shown that for sure. So it must have been something the CBC said.
We can only hope that Poilievre does privatize the CBC.
Day one. But I have no faith in the intelligence of the Canadian electorate.
Or just shut it down completely and let the chips fall where they may.
PP has never promised to shut CBC down or privatize them; he’s promised to “defund” them.
Based on past CPC promises (a re-write of the Firearms Act, anyone?), I’m guessing there will be some symbolic cuts, but the State Broadcaster will be left alive to spew it’s poison for the hundreds of viewers who still watch or listen to them.

Exactly. They keep promising this but never deliver.
Even if you get rid of the CBC, there are many tentacles of Canadian Content Credits and payments that also need to be looked at.
You can find examples of Canadian Content on many services, such as disney+ (the Mandalorian, etc) who can get a refundable tax credit of up to 25% for all eligible labour expenses.
According to PWC “In 2022, the annual volume of film and television production was $11.69 billion, and the industry generated $13.73 billion in gross domestic product while supporting approximately 241,000 jobs across Canada.”
So how much of that was stolen from taxpayers in order to be given to large companies who could easily afford to do it without the subsidies?
I have friends in the low-budget Canadian SF TV/film industry. Without those subsidies, I assure you the film/TV industry in Canada would catastrophically collapse. That’s neither a good nor bad thing, but it is a thing.

Heartland is CBC’s most successful show ever. Content is family friendly and centers on an Alberta hardworking ranch family. Dilly obviously can’t handle the truth.

It’s a video clip going on broadcast TV, so of course it’s edited. No scandal in that. It’s not a news clip, it’s passing as a comedy sketch, so it doesn’t have to represent what actually happened fully or even honestly. There’s not scandal in altering it. This isn’t a scandal story. The story is in what the CBC felt compelled to take out. Taking it out is not wrong, but what you take out tells us something about you. Ezra was trying to point out something about the CBC, not the clip. There’s nothing wrong with the clip, other than it’s bad comedy. There’s a great deal wrong with the CBC.
If you’re in a huff because somebody edited this clip, you’ve missed the point.
