RCMP- Saskatchewan RCMP begin Mandatory Alcohol Screenings (MAS) on routine traffic stops
In 2018, the MAS became part of the Criminal Code Section 320.27(2), being a lawful demand of a breath sample from any driver of a motor vehicle, without the need for reasonable suspicion. Drivers will not be pulled over for the sole purpose of completing a MAS – the MAS will only be requested once a driver is pulled over for other various traffic violations (i.e. speeding, careless driving, brake lights not working, etc.).
What about meth, cocaine, peyote/mescaline, Mary Jane, heroin, magic mushrooms?

Now, when I see someone driving slow/fast/slow drifting in their lane my first thought is “on their %#$! cellphone” and not that they are drunk.

They might as well. The probable cause of smelling something is usually bullshit. I love some of the excuses I have been stopped for – “You were going fast for the conditions.” “I was going the speed limit 70 km on a divided road designed for 110 km.”

The TC. Canada studies used to go back to when there were about 10k cellular phones (statistically near zero) and somehow this was updated a couple of years ago so now there is only 2010-2020, (covid? blame the world on covid?)
They show that since cellular phones became widely available, vehicles on roads in Canada have grown by more than 1.5 while the number of vehicle accidents has fallen by 1/2

Ever look at the front seat of a police car? They get special training apparently, which is so valuable that civilians can’t possibly be taught how to do this. Maybe it’s part of being in a union? It’s so important that only the brotherhood can be taught this?
It seems the idea of doing 2 things at the same time is foreign to anyone in gov’t.
So even while accidents due to all causes fall every year, and fewer people are hurt or killed in those accidents, police still need to ramp up the “something must be done” mantra.

It is no longer even clear at what level you are considered impaired. I think at .04 they can charge, revoke your license and seize your vehicle. It was previously well established .08 was the unsafe level of blood alcohol. While we have been informed driving is a privilege, due process is supposed to be a right. The fact has been proven over the past few years there is no rights in Canada at all. Due process, property, free speech, protesting your government, right of free movement, bodily atonamy ,security of your finances or defending your home are at the behest of the government and the justice department. You can be assaulted ,gassed, shot with rubber bullets or run over with horses with complete immunity. Tell me what you have the inabable right to do. Tell how it is different from a dictatorship. So , Freedom in Canada is an illusion.

if those that get stopped and tested at 9:30 am phoned 911 and suggested that the officer who stopped you was loaded or stoned ( you have the same unfounded assumptions about him as he does you) the police would find themselves chasing each other and the unwanted stops would cease in a short time…..fair is fair right….. i come from an age where the cops had the best parties because they were drinking all the underaged kids booze
