  1. NDP ‘anti-fossil fuel advertising’ draft legislation – mimics 1956 Soviet Criminal Code”.
Mimics or copies? NDP makes headlines at Wattsupwiththat.

“Almost everyone that speaks about energy would be a criminal under this legislation. Even Justin Trudeau”.

In (Charlie Angus’) news “conference, he compared fossil fuels to tobacco, repeatedly,”… Comparing tobacco to fuel is a complete forfeiture of common sense: Tell us how you heat your home with tobacco. Tell us how a farmer fills his tractor with tobacco to grow your food. Tell us how virtually every consumer product and medical staple is made from tobacco.”

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2024/02/16/ndp-anti-fossil-fuel-advertising-draft-legislation-worthy-of-both-the-1956-soviet-rsfsr-criminal-code-or-the-other-end-of-the-political-spectrum/

    1. Charlie should lay off the drugs. 100% of the population is addicted to oil/gas. Tobacco, not so much.

  2. All day long, here in southern BC, I listen to CFOX FM99.3 FM (my boss’s choice, not mine) during my 8hr work day.

On a regular basis, I hear this advertisement for people to get the HPV Vaccine… it’s effective and 100% safe! Over and over I hear this ad. They never list the manufacturer or say who is sponsoring the ad, except for the government. But over and over, it is effective and safe. It reduces certain cancers (ie. cervical cancer). They even say its free! Care of the gov’t.

Well yes, I think it was back in 2012, maybe earlier, that Merck came out with Gardisel, claiming that if they could vaccinate all girls before puberty with Gardisil, they could 100% eliminate cervical cancer. But, they had to do it before girls became sexually active… so they pushed for mandatory vaccination before the age of puberty.

Lots of people fell for it… especially the free love hippy types. They hated the conservatives who said maybe preaching abstinence and sex within marriage was the answer. (You’re killing children!)

However, as an increasingly older gent, now in his middle fifties and a decade down the road, I keep hearing about all these lawsuits against Merck for screwing up these young (no more) girls who got vaxxed. Infertility, other cancers, whatnot. The lawsuits are piling up and Gardisil is no longer considered completely safe.

I find it odd the BC government advertising an HPV vaccine that is completely safe and 100% effective… and even free! Don’t you? They don’t mention a manufacturer so you can’t research it. It just repeats over and over, “The HPV Vaccine… 100% Safe and Effective… and Free!”

    Sound familiar?

    1. I believe that HPV is one of the worst vaxes. I think they can be sued for false advertising. No vaccines are 100% safe and effective. It would be good to know what is behind these campaigns.

    2. Don’t worry, so is Thalidomide!

Yes, last year there were lots of advertisements throughout the Toronto Transit Commission subway system promoting Gardasil.

    3. CFOX? SMH, I stopped listening to them back in the late 90s when they became “new rock”…..
after Larry and Willie became just Willie, who was famous for his endless bloviating.
The Fox TALKS! Yeah, too much yakkytiyak for ‘music’ radio.
Ditto Rock101, with a playlist that never changed for 25 years, and only recently added some tracks from the 90s…who cares.
Terrestrial radio is awful, commercials, commercials, commercials, including the Poison Jabs.
Occasionally when I’m hauling yard waste to the dump, I tune in to Bellingham or Seattle FM. The endless Pfizer ads more toxic paranoia shots is something to believe. Which morons are still taking jabs? The masked idiots I see at Costco, to this day? What’s wrong with these hypochondriacs? Death Wish?

    4. So I looked it up today, on the Health BC Website.

      The short and curlies, are:

This is targeted at Grade 6 children. That is the recommended age. And if you are 12 years old you can get this without parental consent. It is given free, without parental consent, to all 12 to 18 olds, care of government.

Over 200 million vaxxes have been given, and one must stay for 15 minutes after because there is literally a 1 in a million chance of an allergic reaction. (THIS IS NOT TRUE. See gardisil/Merck lawsuits)

It is now recommended for both girls and boys.

Something doesn’t pass the smell test here… most prominently that you can do this without parental consent at 12 yrs old.

        1. Would be more interesting to find out the incidence of the human papiloma virus, and it’s effects.
More fear mongering from the government.
You are correct jeb…abstinence is the best prevention.

  3. Isn’t NDP Jag pushing for “free” birth control?
The leaders are two faced liars. We need free birth control, coz we need open immigration?!
How about free mortgages? I’ll just “pay the rent” , the bank owns it.

  4. Just a thought: concluding that all of the issues in your life are caused by having a body with sex organs that don’t match your gender could be a bit like believing that your car won’t stop because you don’t have leather seats.

      1. Steve – But in Canada, telling someone that they actually need new brakes is probably illegal, maybe even racist. You don’t need gender reassignment surgery, you need cause and effect realignment therapy. But hey, I’m no psychologist.

    1. I can see that. Your one big interview with the West since you started a war with a much smaller country and it is widely criticized as a puff piece. I bet Putin reads the Guardian.

      1. Well it was a puff piece. But it was also extremally cumbersome and cringy. Pootin’s “In the beginning there was darkness… then a big bang… then the asteroid killed dinosaurs…” orc history lesson was awkward, to put it mildly. And it set the tone for the rest. You could see that Cucker Farson really wanted to hear “because NATO expansion” and not a lengthy lecture that he knew his supporters at home would have no attention for. Pootin on the other side expected to be challenged at least a bit, he wanted to go “gotya, here are the documents…” It was like a soccer game where both sides needed a draw to advance to he next round.

      1. LOL he is still having a meltdown over Tuckers Pootin interview a week on, along with the MSNBC girls! Cringe or what.

        1. Bitch please, it was you and yours that soiled your Depends in amazement. Turns out none else did.

          1. About what? Your limitations? It is you and yours who are compulsively spanking each others’ tiny monkeys over the Cucker Farson interview.

          2. “It is you and yours who are compulsively spanking each others’ tiny monkeys over the Cucker Farson interview.”

What are you, 12? Terror of the schoolyard, are you?

            Grow up.

  5. Ah, yes, William and Mary. I commend to everyone the excellent series by the late Robert Neill which spans the era in England from just before Charles II regains the throne to when his brother (James II) is driven off it and William of William and Mary becomes the monarch. The three books are “Crown & Mitre”, “The Golden Days” and “Lillibullero”.
Essentially, James II ascended the throne on the death of his brother (Charles II) and immediately had to cope with a rebellion led by his brother’s illegitimate but acknowledged son, the Duke of Monmouth. The rebellion was quickly crushed, but the reprisals were brutal.
This was an age when to be Protestant in a Catholic country or vice versa was to invite serious consequences. Generally speaking, Catholics in England were okay except that they were barred from certain positions in either the military or the government. Across the Channel, persecution of Protestants had led to waves of refugees fleeing westward (the Huguenots fled France beginning in the 1500s and continuing to the 1700s), so the concern that James would impose Cathlocism upon the nation was a real concern. England was essentially a Protestant country – a civil war had been fought to establish that – and the majority wished the county to reman so.
William of Orange was invited to invade by those who felt James II was a disaster. He came into the picture only because his wife was the elder daughter of James II. That would have meant that – forget the late son James’ wife had – that Mary was next in the line of succession. The “Glorious Revolution” was in 1688, but Mary died in 1694 and would have been succeeded by her sister. Queen Anne.

    1. Back in the 1800’s, as Canada was developing as a country, many new towns and villages had “Orange Halls” where where supporters of the Orange movement would congregate. My great, great grandfather and great grandfather were “Orangemen” in Singhampton, On. Orangemen were affectionately known as “Billy Boys”

    2. We visited Williamsburg on a road trip in 2019.
      Beautiful place.
      Delighted this history buff.

  6. Williamsburg is a wonderful place.
I did a consulting engineering/bill of materials project there in the late 90’s, flying to Williamsburg (one actually flies into Richmond) every Monday from Denver, and flying home every Friday for four or five weeks. Although it was a great and innovative project, I would decline the opportunity today for fear of parts spontaneously departing the aircraft at any moment along the way.

  7. Apparently, Ukrainians have retreated from Avdiyivka: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/feb/16/ukrainian-forces-give-up-some-positions-in-avdiivka-as-russian-assault-continues

It took Russians several month, mountains of corpses and heaps of scrap metal to capture a town of 30000 people and that was greatly assisted by their heavy use of guided glide bombs, which Ukrainians are hoping to counter when they get the F-16 fighters with long-range AA missiles.

    1. What bothers is me is that Zaluzhnyi wanted to abandon it earlier, Zelensky fired him for not being sufficiently aggressive and then Syrskyi who replaced Zaluzhnyi followed Zaluzhnyi’s plan. I am not hating on Syrskyi who is being constantly targeted by concern trolls. Far from it, I believe he is a rather skilled commander. It is Zlensky’s meddling in operational matters that I have a problem with. Well that and his blunders on international arena.

      1. Nobody really knows when the tipping point comes, certainly not those who have no access to intelligence reports. It was more or less clear that Avdiyivka would fall when the orcs were able to dig in within the town boundaries since Ukrainians could not mow them down en masse on open ground anymore and could not afford taking casualties at the same rate as their enemies. This phase of the war reminds me of the late spring / early summer of 2022 when clearing ground with massive artillery barrages allowed the Russians to slowly advance. That was denied by the arrival of HIMARS and now there’s a possibility that arrival of F-16 will deny the Russians their newly found way of clearing ground with guided glide bombs. If that doesn’t happen, Ukrainians will be increasingly more inclined to look for a way out and give up on what they lost.

      2. BTW, apparently 3 Russian fighter / bombers were shot down yesterday while dropping bombs on Avdiyivka, which is not at all light losses, considering that the number of skilled pilots and suitable planes in Russia is very finite. If Ukrainians ever manage to shot a score of Russian planes down within a week or so, I’m pretty sure Russia will cease their current use of glide bombs.

        1. Even if they get the F-16. I’m sure Russia has manpads.
This slug fest is going to continue for who knows how long.

          1. You don’t have much chance to down an F-16 from a ManPAD. Besides, the plan is to use F-16s to fire long-range AA missiles, so the F-16s themselves will not venture into the enemy territory. Obviously, orcs will try to attack those F-16s with their own long-range AA missiles, so it will be down to whose missiles, radars and tactics are superior.

    2. The ukes are critically short of munitions. I listened to a BBC report from the front recently. They interviewed a soldier who said he was down to a handful of shells. It’s good that they can still sink a ship and knock out a plane.
Not sure where they might find munitions. Most of the free world is cleaned out.

Drones are their future. If they still have one. The Germans are preparing for millions of ukes crossing their border if they fall.

      1. It played some part, but I think the use of glide bombs was the deciding factor. A single 500 kg bomb can make a 5-storey building to fold like a house of cards if it hits the right spot. They’re normally launched from 40 to 50 km away from the front, so shooting down the planes that carry them with SAM systems is difficult. Ukrainians think the arrival of modern fighters can help in that regard.

Besides, the US has plenty of munitions, though they are withholding aid for political reasons.

      2. Ukrainians are getting new munitions. There are multiple factories around the world that continue producing mortar and arty ammo. It is not that they are getting nothing. But yes, cynical Republican betrayal of civilization hurts them significantly. Still, despite all the advantages russia is barely moving forward and suffering loses multiple times that of Ukraine. Idiots who believe russia has unlimited resources aside, this level of russian loses cannot be sustained indefinitely.

    1. roaddog – By those measures, life is racist.
I heard Seth Rogan on a CBC interview show yesterday called Q, I think it was, He claimed his parents were hard core socialists from Winnipeg, who met on a Kubutz in Israel and that his dad even supported the communist party of Canada for a while. His parents never liked to work too hard but now live a high lifestyle off of Seth’s success, even going on cruises. He said Canadian society was much better than the US. I guess he doesn’t live here because of work or something? Maybe he should move to Seattle.

      1. had no idea that Seth Rogan had canadian parents. found out just yesterday that the Rifleman Chuck Connors parents were both Newfies. from the time when newfoundland was independant and its people were too. his real name is Kevin Connors

        1. I worked with a couple of newfies. Both had genius IQs. Both went to the top of multinational companies. Must be the fish.
Gene Simmons wife, Shannon Tweed, and actress Natasha Henstridge were newfies. Not sure how to explain that.

    2. What is the difference between ignorance and apathy?

      Well, I don’t know and I don’t care! 🙂

    1. I was in Las Vegas over the Christmas holidays.
      you wanna talk about roads..??

THEY know how to build roads…Big time. 4/5 lane Freeways at 70mph
Even Normal roads are a min of 3 lanes and all travelling at 45mph.

In Canada anything with 2 lanes is considered plenty.
We don’t even have a trans continental freeway …. Just take a drive from Calgary to Kamloops…

    1. Canada is too – it is just not reported. Ditto also for the USA. We are hugely in debt. It is fairly easy to fudge GDP numbers, as the inputs have a huge error rate. This has gone on for decades. Garbage in = garbage out.

  8. Hey kids start polishing up your cornhole chops. Winthrop University now offers cornhole scholarships. It’s a G1 school…..

  9. The Amish again….
