A Dying Industry

If the insanity doesn’t stop soon, there won’t be anyone producing automobiles of any type.

Not to put too fine a point on the state of the EV market, but Ford is losing $38,000 per EV. This means the more EVs they sell, the poorer the company gets. They made $10 billion dollars in profits last year, yet the balance sheet shows they lost about $5 billion just on EVs. This puts them in the bizarre position that they could theoretically give away the entire EV production line and boost company profits by 50%. It’s that bad…

Indeed it’s so truly awful, that the UK Lords are calling for the government to counter the misinformation campaign filled with “mistruths”.  The industry must be at deaths door.

    1. Jojo.

I would REFUSE to EVEN own an EV.
      Why ..?? For what purpose.??
      Cant tow shit.
      Piss poor mileage
      Useless in Cdn Winter
Lack of charging stns (in Working order)
Electricity pricing always on the rise
      Need to park outside
Scrape your battery cover..? well, that’ll be 55-60K pls.

Colossal SCAM & Utter BS is what they always were & always will be.
I’m loving this REVERSAL … the Libs..?? not so much.

  1. Good thing the Canadian taxpayers dropped $14,000,000,000 on a VW battery factory just in time for demand to disappear. I’ve got an idea for our industry dept bureaucrats. Get together and open a hedge fund, where all the government flunkies give their best investment ideas for the future. Then have a team of about 10 pros to implement the exact opposite strategy, it’d be a winner.

    1. Peter 14 billion and wasn’t there another 4 billion invested! WOW Liberals have sunk the “Santa Maria” and Trudeau went to cabin! Play the song and Trooper nailed it!

  2. Is that $38k per vehicle before or after they sell the “Green Virtue Credits” so that they can sell useful vehicles in California?

I’m sure the environmental fascists don’t care, because that’s what the future looks like with their fascist mandate to sell 20% electric vehicles starting in 2025/6

  3. China is apparently producing cheap EV by the thousands and are selling them in Europe and Australia.. They are lobbying to get ’em into Canada and the USA, but our beloved auto unions are standing fast against them, noble patriots that they are.

When Trudeau bans ICE cars,I guess I’ll walk or bicycle.

  4. A very successful business man friend said to me years ago “what we need is CEO’s with the balls to say to engineers…I know you can, but don’t!”

That’s the goal. Forced urban co-habitation. No viable personal transportation. Farmland turned over to corporations (who already have about 40% of it). Over regulate ICE vehicles. Over regulate drilling and refinery process. Artificially inflate the cost of gasoline while simultaneously eroding consumer confidence resulting in fewer ICE’s being produced, driving up prices into the realm of inflated EV’s. Failing to upgrade the electrical grid to accommodate any significant increase in EV units. Rationed use of EV’s as a necessity.

Bingo…personal transportation is now negligible requiring dependency on mass transit, resulting in major growth in urban centers.

  6. The real question here is: How and why did Ford CEO Jim Farley and and GM CEO Mary Barra remain so blissfully unaware of the financial quicksand they were about to step into? The lack of judgement – even outright stupidity of these two (and other auto CEOs as well) – is appalling. The EV is Turbo-Encabulator level silliness writ large. And one didn’t need to be a Sherlock Holmes to figure this out.

Why are they still at the helm of these two companies? Cronyism anyone? My late father had a saying that stuck in my mind: This is stupidity with a capital stoop.

A little bird told me that the 3 Alarm fire that took place a couple weeks ago in the exact location where GM produces their high end EV’s (causing the production to be shut down indefinitely) might not have been an accident. They had the built in excuse of a pile of lithium batteries hanging around starting the fire. But, that seems rather convenient.

    2. Because they are part of the political elite. At least they woke up from yje wolery before they destroyed comp[letely theor companies.

  7. Something I just come into my head watching TV and realizing that this part was faked…
Which got the old brain pan working into how much waisted energy that was produced in a steam room.
Having jewelry on was a horrible mistake as how much heat it absorbed just in that necklace.
Which tells you how much floating energy can be captured and transferred.

  8. FORD. Found On Road, Dead. An old acronym that might come back to bite them. Of course, it could also be Fix Or Repair, Daily. I think for EVs, it’s……both.

  9. But the goal is to prevent personal car ownership; yop reduce the masses to a state of modern servitude.

  10. They are all criminals, handing monopolies to their friends with our tax dollars.. How many bailouts does it take to become a little bitch?.. Free money, who cares?..

Me?.. I could, but I would rather gas up one a month than join team EV.. When do I get my free money?..

  11. It pleases me that the company formerly known as Chrysler has indicated they’ll soon be all EV all the time.

As well that Honda – Toyota have come to their senses and will pursue hydrogen or whatever else…

      1. Also, since nobody has found a hydrogen well anywhere means we have to make it, taking 6 times as much energy to produce as we get from burning it.

The real beauty of hydrogen is it will never be quite ready for market, but you can ride out the current eco insanity at low cost by having a design team throw together a few auto show concept cars.

        1. Now, I got a 52% in high school science (which is an EARNED PASS…not given!) but I understand that a problem with hydrogen is it is difficult to store in any “container” because it is such a small molecule…or something like that…?

  12. Hey, folks, time to tell all governments to back off. Lack courage, then just wait until you are starving, courage will no longer matter because you will die.

  13. Since Ford is losing $38000 per EV, I’m wondering if they have had to inflate the cost of the F150 ICE’s to try and recoup some losses?
