Y2Kyoto: State Of Anorexia Envirosa

Via Hot Air;

A major power grid operator that oversees electricity supplies across the mid-Atlantic repeated its warning that the looming shutdown of a coal-fired power plant in Baltimore will threaten the region’s grid reliability and may have devastating impacts on consumers.

In a follow-up letter obtained by FOX Business this week, PJM Interconnection warned the shutdown of the Brandon Shores coal power plant is slated to occur before replacement power sources can come online, resulting in “degraded grid reliability” for more than 1 million state consumers, including the entire city of Baltimore.

Now pay close attention, because this is where the math comes in.

PJM is preparing for significant impacts to the grid from additional demand that includes up to 7,500 MW of new data centers to be sited in Virginia and Maryland. This is combined with widespread effects from the deactivation of more than 11,000 MW of generation across the PJM footprint.

  1. I’m not sure if anybody outside of Baltimore will even notice if during a power outage Baltimore goes up in flames again just like during the mostly peaceful George Floyd protests.

  2. Article doesn’t give background on the data centers. Being in Virginia/Maryland, part of the surveillance state?

  3. I really don’t care about the present and future woes of Baltimore. Vote Democrat and you deserve the results you get.

  4. Shut down the DC portion of it, that will more than make up the 11,000 MW you are losing because of decisions made in DC…

  5. I do work for a GC on Long Beach Island, NY. He told me a story about a client who got stuck in their home elevator recently. Apparently, during heavy demand times, the elevator does not get full current and in fact, there is a whole section of the island residents who are also getting less. It is so bad now, with heat pumps and the EV’s on the island, that a section of town went dark last night.

    1. They could have had Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant. (The original plan was actually three nuclear plants on Long Island, back when nuclear power was cool.)

      800 MW of carbon free electricity that has a 90+% reliability factor.

  6. Here in N.CA … if you want to build a new home, you must obtain “will serve” letters from EVERY local Public Utility: Power, Water, Sewer, Trash … and a recent project of mine just had to pay “capacity fees” of $95,000.00 to PG&E power) … and $105,000.00 to EBMUD (water). THIS is what will happen across the country as we allow the Marxists to SHUT DOWN all our utilities.

    The infrastructure that once made America GREAT is being systematically dismantled. And if you believe that will produce MORE and CHEAPER housing … or data centers … or anything else (cheaper) … then you are in for the kind of shock that only true ignorance can wreak.

  7. Kenji mentions Marxists. Exactly right. They’re everywhere now – especially in government – sowing destruction and chaos as a matter of policy. Every bit of it intentional. Once you understand this, it all begins to make sense. Don’t give these people the benefit of the doubt anymore. They hate everyone and everything and want us all DEAD. Spread the word patriots!

  8. This is happening everywhere and most people are Not Paying Attention.
    And then when a big storm comes and kicks the shit out of the grid, the fckers will double down on the Sky Is Falling and get rid of more coal and gas.
