2. I remember when the never ending decades old Sri Lankan War against the Tamil Tigers actually ended.

   The UN and all the world leaders were shocked, because the Sri Lankans finally decided they were going to end the war, and attacked and killed every Tamil Tiger fighter they could find. The world was shocked that they were not stopping to negotiate a peace agreement, like they had been trying to do for the last twenty years. Sri Lanka’s Government just killed, captured and defeated their Tamil Tiger enemies. The war ended. Permanently.

   The “Law Of Armed Conflict” (LOAC) is taught to our troops and it states that force must be ‘proportional’.

7. For all the morons bleating for restraint and proportion: please define these terms in the context of what Hamas did Oct 7. And 2 other things:
   – If thosee still in Gaza are indeed against Hamas, then they should welcome IDF + help IDF rooting out the rats from all the tunnels. Problem is that 80% are still with Hamas, helping directly or indirectly.
   – Israel’s war will not end with Hamas. The idea from Islamic world that Jews are to blame for everything and that they have to be killed needs to be taken out, period. Islam needs a reformation, you cannot have in 21st century a billion being educated with this kind of crap. Idea of jihad needs to be adapted, more like Ahmadiyya’s.

8. The generals and the military-industrial sector simply love “proportional” wars. With a proportional war, the generals take credit for winning lots of battles, resulting in rapid promotions through the ranks, and expanding budgets for manpower and weapons. At the same time, the MI sector receives generous funding for the production of existing weapons systems, as well as for the development of new weapons systems (i.e. “toys” for the generals to play with). In other words, an endless gravy train for the military, the MI sector, and the politicians who keep the gravy flowing.

   Should the military make the mistake of actually winning a war instead of just winning battles, the gravy stops flowing. The military become subject to “reduction in force” actions, and the funding for the MI sector is drastically cut. And if the powers that be become tired of any particular endless “proportional” war, you can bet that a new one will be found to take its place.

   Simply put, there is just too much opportunity for graft in winning battles but never winning the war.

10. HAMAS is ISIS. The only solution is to obliterate it from the face of the planet. Nothing more, nothing less. Total victory is the solution to the Israeli/Palestinian problem. The people in the region that don’t want to become decent responsible citizens of Israeli should have two choices, Leave or die.

    1. Is a “path” for people currently living in Gaza to become Israeli citizens even being considered? My guess is that the Israelis are not keen on the addition of a million Palestinians to the voting rolls in Israel.

       1. The option for individual Arabs to accept Jewish dominion in the Land of Israel and live their lives without making trouble for their hosts was always available.

          The Israelites offered no less to the Amalekites, it is said, knowing full well that the Amalekites would not have returned the favour. Jews have always held themselves to higher standards than the pagans did.

          No Amalekites took the deal, and very few Arabs have accepted it in good faith, even the “Arab Israelis” unable or unwilling to flee Israel in 1948.

          If a few old women past bearing a new generation of jihadis must remain because they have no family in Ottawa willing to take them, that’s not something that should seriously concern anyone. They can stay. A student at Hebrew University can use them to collect what information is worth collecting about their folkways in exchange for a few shekels while the women still have their wits.

          Any Arab of any use to the Empire of Mammon in a future war against Israel must go, and stay gone.

11. Fire bombing Tokyo, nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki and much, much more is not proportional to killing several thousand service men.
    VJ occurred after unconditional surrender. Japan was able to end the war at anytime, they just needed to unconditionally surrender. USA decided government of Japan was problem and it was to be eliminated.

    Hamas is not better than Imperial Japan. Israel could say that the bombing will end with the unconditional surrender of Hamas. Seems simple.

    1. The Japanese knew what they were about. They were convinced that the Americans would quickly tire of a long war to rid the world of their tribe, declare victory and get out, letting Japan’s rulers get off scot free.

       Unlike the Americans, Stalin had been serious about permanently removing Germany as a threat to Soviet security, and was determined to do the same with Japan. On news that Soviet forces had invaded Manchuria, they surrendered to the Americans unconditionally, hoping that the Americans would be fools enough to save them. With the Russians on the horizon their only other option was seppuku.

12. The assumption is that the Jews are at war just with Hamas, and it makes no sense to swat a fly with a steamroller.

    I agree that Hamas are small-time thugs. In a world where they didn’t get money from every wealthy Jew-hater on the planet, driving the Gazans into the sea would have been a long weekend’s work at most.

    But Israel is at war not just with Hamas or even the Arabs.

    Her real adversary is a global Empire of Mammon with no god but money, and with no law but Do What Thou Wilt, that hates Israel and her God and will stop at nothing to blot out their names forever. The same Empire misrules Canada, the local satraps being the French Canadian ass and the Little Russian dog.

    Israel will remain at war with that Empire until she destroys it or it destroys itself, like Rome did before it.

    The difference this time is that there will be no barbarians waiting in line behind it. The Nations of the world whose peoples hate Israel and defy her God, all of them without exception, will this time be utterly destroyed with the weapons they conceived capable of killing the entire human race in a single night. The survivors, if any, will be too busy killing each other over what little is left worth looting to annoy the Jews.

    The Jews will mark that happy day as the newest festival in the calendar to be celebrated with feasting and singing of Psalms to the Lord, in the Temple finally rebuilt on Mount Zion. There will be peace in the Land of Israel for a thousand years.

    The lands of the Nations will finally enjoy generations of overdue Sabbaths while they wait to be re-settled by men who fear the Lord and keep His Commandments.

    Nothing of value will be lost, from the Jordan to the ends of the earth.

    That’s proportionality.

    “Genocide” indeed. It’s called war. It will end when the last Jew-hater is buried under tons of rubble or becomes food for the wild animals that inherit the anthill he considers a “world-class city.”

    I can guarantee that there will be peace in the Land of Israel before this generation of the children of Israel pass away. I can’t guarantee Canada will still exist as we know it by then, much less the “metropolis of Quebec.”

    I can’t guarantee that it even ought to.

13. Proportionality just means not using means disproportionate to the objective, the idea being to limit collateral damage. It does not mean hampering your military operation to give the enemy a chance to a “fair fight”. That’s the short definition of it. It is a moral concept, as opposed to economy of force which is a military concept. Unfortunately that’s not how most people understand proportionality. To most people it means hampering your military to give the enemy a chance. Should you apply proportionality when when your enemy seeks to genocide you? Why would you apply moral concepts like proportionality to an immoral enemy that slaugters innocents and children in the most barbaric fashion as a primary objective, to the loud cheer and encouragement of their population? I don’t think the navel-gazers and Brussel lawyers that toy with moral concepts like the morality of war are equipped intellectually to deal not just with an entity like Hamas, but especially the bloody-minded population that fully support its charter and mode of operation. The just war thing is a Western moral concept. Hamas is barbaric but its leaders are not stupid (albeit filthy rich degenerates whoring it up in Quatar). The call for proportionality is just to appeal to Western morality to hamper Israel. An organization whose charter is genocidal lack any claim to a moral high ground, nor do they actually care; for them and most of the Arab world, the Palestinian population are a bunch of pawns to be sacrificed on the board so the more important pieces can move. A few countries in the area could make every Palestinian a millionnaire with a bungalow on a beach. Israel has the real means to flatten Gaza through bombing and kill every living thing there through a blockade ( called a siege in the old days). The fact that they are risking boots on the ground is proof that they do in fact consider and apply proportionality. The media and SOME western leaders do not recognize this fact publicly and accuse Israel of perpetrating genocide, in a cynical attempt to garner votes from the useful idiot and “newcomers” they have imported. At some point, Israel might just conclude proportionality brings no payoff in this war and go with whatever gets the job done and brings them the fewer casualties. This is where this war escalates to a regional war.
