      1. Don’t you mean 90% of Liberals are idiots!

        Hmmm?
        90% of both are both?

Oh! Never mind. I think we are both right.

  1. Another overlooked issue is culture:
    1. Fatness has traditionally been looked on as a GOOD thing in some cultures – it means you are wealthy. Fat men were desirable men because they had wealth. Poor people were thin and looked like Victoria Secret models.
    2. Many 3rd world and tropical countries have no culture of exercise and fitness. Women especially don’t work out – they might walk a lot of places, but generally they stay at home and going to an exercise class or exercising for fitness is very foreign. India is a perfect example of that.
Closer to home, Mexico is actually the most obese country on earth, and if you’ve visited outside of the tourist areas it’s hard to find a woman who is in decent shape (no, pear is not a shape!). Mexican men are generally thinner than the women because they do most of the heavy physical labour (same in most countries), but still most are overweight.

    1. I remember reading a few years ago Mexico had the highest rate of consumption of pop on the planet. Probably completelty unrelated…

      1. Yes they are. I’m partial to the Spotted Cow but the seasonal Staghorn Octoberfest is available right now and it’s quite nice too.

  2. Hey, how many of these studies telling you that red meat is bad for you are skewed based on most people using seed oils in their cooking process? I can tell you that any hamburger I fashioned myself always started with a little bit of vegetable oil in the pan. I did the same with beef tips (using seed oil) as part of the marinade.

  3. I have done a good amount of traveling over the last 45 years. My personal observations are that most people start out looking good in their 20’s and by their 40’s, they are becoming “chunky”. As you age, you do tend to put on weight, but you must be mindful. And yes, North American fast food is definitely NOT healthy.
In our family, we can “chunk up fast”. I have tried to do exercise everyday and watch what I put in my mouth. Growing up, we were only allowed Coca Cola on July 1 and on New Year’s Eve. As a result, I never developed a taste for it. It is water, milk, or tea for me.

    1. You are right Big Momma; you’ve got to monitor what you eat and the amounts you eat.

As well I come from a family where both males and females are chunking up to their max and it’s not healthy.
Overeating is what makes overweight people.
We are surprised at the number of overweight young people we see now. When we looked at our old school photos from the 60’s, 70’s. No fat kids. Choir photos with big groups of us kids, big smiles with missing baby teeth, but no fatties. And everyone HAD to go outside at recess and everyone HAD to do gym classes.
Nothing beats fresh air and activity outside; makes one sleep well too.
Fast food seems to be the problem in our minds, we don’t eat much of that kind of food.
