  1. (Marlin Perkins voice) “Let’s send Jim to inspect the battery. I dare say, he won’t be requiring his fire retardant oven mitts for this one.”

  2. I’m in Toronto and we’ve got a lot of Teslas. You can tell they’re subsidized. There are even two within a block of our house. I’m not sure one of them charges as, like most houses in our neighbourhood, they only have street parking and you can always park in from of your house.

Ona visit to Manitoba last March, I did not see one Tesla, or any other wholly electric car, not even in Winnipeg.

I guess reality trumps virtue signaling in a cold climate.

    1. While driving through Quebec on Thanksgiving I saw dozens of them, as well as the electric Mustang, the small Hyundai electric vehicle, and a couple of other models. Quebeckers must be getting one hell of a kick back for buying them.

      1. Average price of electricity:
        Quebec – 7.8 cents / KWhr
        Ontario – 14.1 cents
        Alberta – 25.8 cents.

          1. Also in Alberta.
How long is your contract good for?
While ours is at $.0599, but not for long, we had to re-negotiate at the current rate, which is $.1259 (w ‘loyalty bonus’)

    2. I had to pick up two people at -40C last year. (-53C with the windchill.) They had a dead electric car. I don’t know which one but I do know they sure were happy to see me with my Ford F150. They even were happy to sit in a crew cab rear seat with my dogs while I gave them a lift to town.

    3. I can tell you that there’s lots of Tesla’s here in Winnipeg.
One parks on my street with no access to a charger.
All summer long on hot days, I’d hear fans running, trying keep the battery from catching fire.
Now that we’ve got an early winter, I wonder how long it will be before I see an extension cord run out to it to try and get enough charge in it to get it to the nearest super charger.

  3. But the good thing about EV’s is that the can ignite and warm a considerable area around them for some time.

  4. I’ve seen an amazing uptick in TV ownership in my area. Two years ago, there was maybe four or five, now there are dozens. As VOWG would say, there is a lot of stupid out there!

  5. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Northern Saskatchewan, in the winter, in an electric car. But if I was, I would be.

    1. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Northern Saskatchewan in winter. Period.
It was a balmy 82 in Phoenix today.

  6. Kate; Your headline always says you amuse yourself but you’re definitely making our days better! Thanks for bringing your amazing sense of humour to us every day!

  7. Lots of EVs around Saskatoon, or as I call it, Little Toronto on the Prairies. Teslas, Mustangs, the Ford Pickup – even spotted a Rivian with Alberta plates. Bet you they all have trans kids, too.

  8. -14C in southern SK last night. Coldest spot in just about everywhere in North America. I had to check temperatures in Northern Baffin Island to find a colder temperature.

I pity those fools who think they can venture their EV’s in these parts. Not a charging station within (quite literally) 100 km. You’d probably have to drive as far north as Regina from where I am to even see a charging station. Haven’t seen one yet.

  9. Just a question from an ex-Ontarian (left 35 years ago), do cars still rust out in Ontario due to the salt on the roads? This could make it very interesting in the scrap yards when rusted out EVs start showing up in a couple of years.

    1. Yes. There was a purge of rusty cars a couple of years ago. They seem to be taking longer to rust now. Highways use a lot of brine now instead of salt, if that makes any difference.

    2. City of Calgary uses moe salt in an hour than Ontario does in a season. It shocking that the Bow River Rainbow Trout haven’t turned into sea run Steelhead.

  10. I almost crashed into a black model S with Saskatchewan plates the other day in southern Wisconsin.

Dickhead got off the highway and was clearly following GPS to the nearest charger. Jumped across three lanes to make a right turn to the grocery store parking lot with the tesla chargers.

  11. Well, I haven’t seen any e-cars in flames and I haven’t seen any abandoned along the road. But I don’t get out much.

My big aversion to e-cars centers on the parasitic manufacturers and virtue-signalling purchasers. They Hoover up tax dollars that should be used to improve our abysmal health care system.
