Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

This is why I would prefer Rubio to Vance in 2028. He seems more courageous, more articulate.
+ he seems more ‘stable’, he doesn’t get aggravated. Rubio is of Cuban (Spanish+Italian) descent yet he’s more ‘Anglo-saxon’. While JD is of Scottish descend yet he is ‘Latino’ sometimes.
As someone who is of both Latino and hillbilly (I suppose this means Anglo), what exactly are you trying to say?
They’re both essential. It’s insightful to recognize where both of them came from, what their backgrounds are. Vance, the offspring of impoverished, drug-addicted Appalachian castaways hanging on by their fingernails in the rust belt; Rubio the child of poor people who escaped from the Communist prison camp of Cuba. Meanwhile Bernie Sanders tells us HE is fighting the Oligarchs.
Two thumbs up.
I look forward to the day when I can hear a Canadian politician give a speech like that. The truth, delivered straight.
I may not live long enough, I’m afraid. Canada is not what it used to be.
“Canada is not what it used to be”…..boy, that is an understatement for the ages.
Might be worth noting that not that long ago America not only had the Clintons, Bidens, and Obamas, but also the Bushes, McCains, and the Romneys.
We’ll leave the liberals out of this because they are a rhetorical topic. How many conservatives/Republicans were told to (and dutifully did) hail those as “our hero!”?
Only two things saved America from going the same way as Canada: first, some people decided enough was enough with the coronation of Mittens as a “true blue defender of conservatism/the GOP” — that was a bridge too far to be sold (and they suffered a lot of slings and arrows from the right for not voting for him — looking at you, American conservative blogosphere; most of the big ones all lined up at the trough); secondly, Donald J. Trump got in office (with a bit of an assist from Ross Perot and even Ron Paul back in the day, helped set the American mindset towards breaking with whatever dog vomit the Uniparty threw up for us to vote on). And the spell got broken.
Canada could do the same, if there is but the will to do it (and you’re going to need somebody who is an outsider with some public image clout; no, Pollievre and Bernier are not the guys).
I agree that neither PP nor Bernier are the guys, but the “outsider with public image clout” does not exist, as far as I can see.
Well, you never know. The main thing is though that things were looking pretty bleak here in the U.S. so always be prepared for the unexpected thing.
Or…you could just revolt and petition to become the 51st state.
Stevie! What about Tal Bachman!? I believe Mark Steyn praises his intelligence, education, and conservatism

… or maybe we’re too far past the 90’s?
Kenji,
Tal’s woke CBC dad is the Albatross on that idea.
And, yeah, Randy had some good rock riffs back in the day, but you may not have heard his incessant bleating on CBC radio over the years.
I’m surprised that he hasn’t become a senator in this benighted country.
Thanks for ruining yet another rocker of my youth … facepalm.
Agree, Perot and Paul, especially Perot’s 1992 candidacy reserving great attention, did pave the way for Donald Trump.
Good catch. I was going to use him as the only example, but Paul to some extent works too so why not add?
I voted for Perot … because Bush Sr. presented as someone who didn’t really want the job. And Perot accurately described the giant sucking sound.
And I voted for Trump … 3x
I have to think God also played a hand in our recovery.
I didn’t want to call up a certain sort of rant that happens here.
Temp, thump, thump … goes my thumb
Was that a biblical thump, kenji?
Two thumbs up uJane!!
In as much as you described this lifelong conservative refusing to return to the pool of UniParty dog vomit.
Heard it’s great, haven’t listened yet, but way, way, WAY LONG OVERDUE!
Trump should have decimated these commie pukes in his first term, but better late than never!
Every – EVERY – Republican should be CONSTANTLY calling out ANYONE remotely sympathetic to this ideology – but ESPECIALLY the DSA types, and any Democrat who refuses to condemn the cancer on their side – as COMMUNISTS! They’re constantly calling us racists, white supremacists, fascists, Nazis – so it’s time to respond in kind. Western civilization is at stake – don’t be pussies!
Just into it.
In his opening remarks among several others, is a welcome to the Secretary of Education. Strange. I thought POTUS cancelled this federal department and constitutional outrage formed in 1980. Has the cancellation been cancelled? OR …….?
Constitutionally he can’t “cancel” the DOE because it was created by Congress, but as executive he has the power to shrink it to where it isn’t that relevant.
Of course, there are plenty of government agencies created by previous EOs that the constitution says he does have the power to eliminate, but district court injunctions are holding most of that up.
So you think Linda McMahon is a simple administrative functionary? That Trump has not surrounded himself with a cadre of affiliates who can perform more than one important task?
She is systematically dismantling it from within. Transferring DOE duties to other government agencies. You might recall how many lawsuits and leftist Judges have been weaponized against every Trump reform. The strategy requires greater guile.
Now can we arrest Bill Ayers?
I would settle on arresting Ilhan Omar and Rashida Talib … both for violating their oaths of office to defend the US Constitution. Not to mention immigration fraud.
Hear hear! Hear Hear! HEAR HEAR!
A superb speech ….. albeit a bit stumble-y in a few places; mebbe he was a bit short of prep time.
Haven’t listened to the whole thing but after 3/4 of it, he is leaving out naming the “anti fascists”. Antifa is likely the worst of the lot.
