      3. Ukrainians could volunteer for a Wehrmacht Division or a Waffen SS Division. Mr. Hunka volunteered for the SS. Not proven, but it is likely he was involved in the atrocities committed by the Division he was in.
        At any rate, Mr. Hunka fought for the enemy whether it was against the Soviets (who Eisenhower should have let Patton take care of after the Fall of Berlin) or the western Allies. Polite clapping while sitting down would have been sufficient, not a rousing standing ovation.

The nazi associations of Ukraine and the backlash seen during this episode reveal how effective the stigma and connotation of that ideology/brand is to us, and rightly so. But it begs the question what is Justin’s interest here? Does anyone, except perhaps those of Ukrainian heritage, feel this is somehow an existential concern for Canadians? For our “democracy”? Where are the Liberal touted Pearsonian efforts at brokering peace? Everything about our entanglement here smells bad.

      1. Peace is not a word uttered by the west in this conflict. Peace negotiations have been derailed on several occasions by the west, meaning they are actively perusing war with Russia and have been since 2008.

    Even though the “hybrid” form of Parliament has been allowed every member was in attendance.
    Second, no body was there for any other reason than to be part of the cool kids
    Third, the only vetting that did take place was Leisure Suit Larry wanting a Ukrainian vet for a personal photo op to bump his poll numbers. He has neither the good sense or discretion to think past that.

    Based on those observations, while this event was not on my bingo card, so to speak, had anyone asked previously to this I would have responded that it would be in the realm of plausible.

  21. Aside having knowing him for decades as I live in his home town of North Bay, our fathers did business, and we would run into each as community leaders, I was a key member of CPC campaigns efforts in a former life over his early years as a MP.

    Rota is truly a really nice guy. Full stop. That he and his staff who were naturally some of his campaign peps didn’t bother looking at Hunka’s whole history before carting him to Ottawa isn’t surprising. If it wouldn’t be for the indoctrinated fools in our riding loving the fact that he can speak four languages like JT has lovely hair, he would still be at the NRC. They shouldn’t be running the country. Not the whole lot of them.

As noted in social media, Trudeau had a private meet and greet with the “veteran” so his advisors and security team would have vetted the “Ukranian war hero” for security reasons. Someone had to know this man’s background and history.

    The lighter side of the debacle is that, if you listen closely, underneath the sound of clapping you can hear the sound of the Trudeau liberal-NDP government never, ever being able to call their critics and opposition white supremacists, bigots, racists etc.. Once your government has invited, introduced and praised an actual Nazi in the House of Commons then you certainly have zero high ground or moral authority to accuse anyone of bigotry of any sort. The Liberals have lost their go-to move.

      1. My understanding is that there wasn’t much advance notice on the identity of the guest. The CPC MPs are also saying that it’s the responsibility of the MP who extends the invitation to vet the guest. It’s also up to the PMO and the Prime Minister’s security staff the vet anyone who visits the PM, especially during a state visit/private meeting with a national leader who is as high profile and at-risk as Zelensky.

        The CPC should mention that, given the failure of the PMO and Speaker to do basic vetting, their party will be willing to help them out with background checks to keep the members of the House of Commons safe and secure. How many government agencies failed and how many protocols were ignored…and this isn’t the first failure : Joshua Boyle, Jaspal Atwal, Laith Marouf, Yaroslav Hunka.

        The Trudeau liberal-NDP government are such a clown show and an embarrassment to all Canadians. A new low, reputation-wise.
