Western nations accept ‘climbdown’ on Ukraine to salvage G20’s relevance
It took until close to midnight on Friday for a handful of leading developing countries to propose their compromise. Accept this, was the pitch, or bear the consequences of a fractured G20.
After five days of gruelling discussions, the western delegates took the deal. When their bosses assembled the next day at the summit in New Delhi, the scale of their concession was made stark.
The US, EU and other western allies had agreed to remove condemnation of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine from the meeting’s communique, in exchange for pledges from all 20 states — including Russia and China — to respect territorial integrity and work towards a “just peace” for Kyiv.
“This is a climbdown,” said Sarang Shidore, director of the Quincy Institute’s Global South programme.
The degree to which the western allies were willing to compromise, despite Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Putin skipping the summit, highlighted just how keen they were to salvage the credibility of a grouping that had come under severe pressure since Russia invaded Ukraine just over 18 months ago.
Funny how for years of cheering for the US/NATO (but I repeat myself) I have now become a supporter of Russia. Sad that there is a war going on in Ukraine and for all may Ukrainian friends I feel bad that you have lost friends and family in that malstrom but this war was started by the US. Such a stupid war started by such stupid people who have only their own self interests at heart. So long as they get rich they don’t care who dies.

Russia’s “minor incursion” … was approved by the US State Dept. … as blurted-out by Puppet Biden. Russia is not withdrawing. They don’t have to. The Winners of Wars don’t concede lands they’ve acquired.

It doesn’t matter how many times you repeat that same tired old line or how clever you think it is ( stubbornly hanging onto the belief, like the man-child that you are, that the continued repetition of it might somehow miraculously make it become more effective) …Russia is clearly NOT going anywhere, and there is nothing short of direct NATO intervention that could possibly change that fact. Support for continuing to support and fund Ukraine is fading quickly all over the world as the true costs become apparent and calls for a negotiated settlement are growing every day. Deal with it.
I wonder if you said the exact same thing before Kharkiv and Kherson on the right bank were liberated?

Unfortunately reality say’s that you gotta make them first or cut a deal. Deals get tougher the more treaties and promises that get broken along the way.
I know. Belovezha Accords, Russia- NATO founding act, Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine-Russia friendship agreement, not to mention the UN charter.

All thrown to the wastebasket with the US backed coup in 2014, and the subsequent Minsk & Minsk 2 agreements that were in the words of Angela Merkel:

“At the time, it brought calm and gave Ukraine, for example, a lot of time, seven years, to develop into what it is today.”
What it “developed into” during those 7 years was a NATO trained and equipped mobilized army on Russia’s border capable of drawing Russia into a proxy war with the intent of destabilizing and regime changing the Russian government through a series of sanctions and military action once Russia was provoked enough to act on the provocation. It worked….mostly, just not as easily an outcome as the pedo-globalists had planned to date.
The results so far is Ukraine being turned into a wasteland with millions of diaspora along with hundreds of Billions of wasted, looted, and disappeared western tax dollars. Meanwhile our own countries witness our own decline to third world status by the same hands that created this mess.

@Allan S – all of your arguments fall apart from “it was not a US backed coup.” Indeed Ukraine has a right to defend itself as does Russia, Ukraine should have defended itself from the corrupt government the US and George Soros brags on CNN of helping install.
There was a time when NATO was extremely relevant. Anyone standing in the Fulda Gap of Germany during the height of the Cold War would have surmised the same…and rightly so. Now, however, NATO has become a cost cutting measure for many member states who don’t wish to fund their own defenses.
The problem rears it’s ugly head when the party that is paying for everything is led by chicken hawk jackasses with personal financial interests primary to the original mission statement of the organization.
I’m not a big Trump fan, but his “pay your fair share” push on NATO was a good move. It would stabilize peace due to no on wanting to spend their own revenue to pursue stupid military actions. Choices are different when you have skin in the game.
You make it sound like Trump invented the 2% of GDP spending on military guideline. Truth is, that was a policy put into place before he became president. Also, nobody “owes” NATO anything. All dues are paid in full.
Allan, Trump didn’t invent the % of GDP application. Instead, he sought to actually enforce it. And, it isn’t a requirement. Instead, it is a goal… Only 11 of the 31 members are expected to achieve that goal in 2023.

NATO should have been disbanded on July 4th, 1991. If the Europeons wanted a security alliance, they could build one then.

All these countries have a historical axe to grind with each other, NATO membership provides them promises and security from each other every bit as much as from Russia. Hence Poland is still eyeballing western Ukraine as historical territory it may be able to annex.
You should read some history on the region, you may be surprised to find that this isn’t the first regional conflict to occur.

I agree. The US was paying too much and doing too much of the heavy lifting while the nations who benefited most were doing nothing. Trump was much better on foreign policy than he is getting credit for.

Both sides are more than ready to deliver a decisive defensive blow.. Day 1 tactics between two nations that cant afford a big loss and survive the fallout.. The advantage is with Russia.. They could do this for 20 years.. We cant and its time to make nobody happy and find a political solution..

Basically the U.S. has no cloths and the whole world knows it. Obama’s open microphone gaffe to Medvedev clearly illustrated how his handlers were playing Russia while stealing Ukraine. Protecting U.S. interests abroad has devolved into chicanery because we elect corrupt people who are willing sock puppets for those with a demonstrable talent for it.
