The sky is falling! This time we mean it!

Friends of Canadian Socialism….oh, wait, Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, says that Canadians ought to boycott Instagram and Facebook essentially for complying with the edicts of the Trudeau government. The first thing that popped into my mind when I read this is, “Are these dinosaurs still around?” I remember their frantic assertions in the early 1980s that Canadian TV would soon be destroyed by cable TV due to the boogeyman of “audience fragmentation”. That was, of course, prior to satellite TV and long before streaming services even existed.

The Friends of Canadian Broadcasting group is asking people to stop posting content on Meta’s platforms on Aug. 23 and 24.

The group says the move is meant to show that Canadians won’t be pushed around by Meta, which decided to pull news from Canadian publishers from its platforms in response to legislation that recently passed.

  1. I’m kinda tired of being pushed around by central Canada’s Canadians, it’s nobody I’ve ever voted for.

It should be noted that any and all of Canada’s MSM news is still available on their individual websites. It seems they still have difficulty monetising their websites, yet the Gov’t of Canada’s head spokesperson Justin still blames those who may in the past have linked to these websites, and never the individual websites they’ve paid for with tax credits.

and, I thought the gov’t of Canada loved to censor those not in their favor? How far is forcing Meta etc to fund their pet causes from seizing what’s actually in your bank account?

Is, “I won’t comply” not in their vocabulary either? See! now we’ve found “common ground”

  2. “FRIENDS is a non-profit advocacy organization. As we are not a registered charity, we are unable to provide tax receipts.”

And since they aren’t a registered charity, they don’t have to make their financial statements public, though they chose to, and once again you have a “non-profit” organization who had an excess of revenues over expenses of $550,243 in 2022, and didn’t pay any taxes.

  3. This was funny.

“The group’s executive director Marla Boltman says the boycott will show Meta that if news leaves the platform, so will users.”

Boltman is a delusional idiot. Does she imagine that Canada is more than a mere flyspeck compared to the size of Meta and Google? There’s all too likely a possibility that this thing may backfire and chase Canadian users away from Canadian broadcasters to get their news about Canada from other networks.

But this gives the Canadian media what it deserves. It took the bribe money from the Trudeau government and is now getting kicked in the goolies by the really big boys on the global media space. It will be interesting to see when, not if, Katie Telford and her sock-puppet squeal “uncle”.

  4. This campaign hasn’t been getting much traction. I suggest that the “Friends” promote the way one usually promotes these type of thugs now: over Facebook and Instagram

    LOL

    1. When I see the CBC weenies promoting a boycott, usually I go buy whatever it was they didn’t like.

This time I can’t, because I’m already NOT using social media as hard as I can. Meta, Instagram etc are a corruption on our society and should be driven into receivership.

But I must say, the thought did occur.

  5. Yup. turdo and his lapdogs.

What’s that old saying? Something about cutting off their peckers to spite their missing balls.

  6. I have Facebook but don’t usually post much. Guess I will be busy posting those days. Here is every picture I’ve taken last two years.

  7. The Friends of Canadian Broadcasting group

Now that sounds like an exciting bunch of people. Probably have the best parties.

  8. ?.. If I click on a CBC link I have to wash my hands like I got shit on them.. Its nothing a little foaming antibacterial soap cant cure.. Seriously.. The Canadian government would like to offload these freeloaders before Prince Trudeau buggers off to France.. LOL..

Its not so much Canadian content as the suckage of it all.. Meta is insulted at flicking some nickels and dimes our way.. Australia did it but they are not hugging the American border either.. Its not the same.. They had no competition, we do..

Garbage fires and murders?.. Political orientation?.. Lame, we don’t need you.. You should pay us..

  9. Media: “Meta, you must allow us to post links to our work on your website!”

    Meta: “Okay.”

Media: “Meta, now you must pay us for the privilege of allowing us to post our work on your website!”

    Meta: “Umm, no.”

Media: “Boycott the SOBs! They’re stealing our money!”

  10. Urinalists get their stories from independent social media content creators, editorialize it to support whatever the BS narrative of the day is, fail to pay the independent content creator, and want the social media orgs to pay them.
    Yeah, no.

  11. Friends of Canadian Broadcasting are no friends of mine. Canadian broadcasting is a mouth piece for the Liberals for the most part. Canadian Broadcasting would be dead were it not being fed dollars by the Liberal largess. Fouck off and die why not.

  12. I will support Trudeau by posting constant questions about his non disclosure agreement at Grey Academy in Vancouver on MetaFaceZuckBerg on August 23rd and 24th.

  13. U.S. here, so not knowing much about Canadian legislative procedures, how hard is it to revoke or repeal a piece of legislation?

Big deal? A bit of a pain? E-Z-peasy?

Will they ever try to fix the bullet-hole they put through their foot?
