Concern is growing Hurricane Hilary will unleash a prolific amount of flooding rainfall on the southwestern US and parts of California as it makes a rare move over the region Sunday and into early next week, triggering the first ever tropical storm watch for California.
Hilary could dump more than a year’s worth of rain in parts of three states: California, Nevada and Arizona. Because of the threat, parts of California face a rare high risk for excessive rainfall. This Level 4 of 4 threat is the first to ever be issued for this part of Southern California.
Hilary was a powerful Category 4 hurricane churning about 360 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Friday afternoon with sustained winds of 145 mph with stronger gusts, the National Hurricane Center said.

Am I the only one who recalls the massive hurricane bearing down on the west coast of Mexico. Huge predictions of total level 4 disaster. They had a low level tropical storm blow in. Something about a radar error. Did they fix the problem?
Well, if the excess death reporting is making it a little hot under the collar for COVIDIAN politicians, there’s nothing like whipping a little national disaster on the country to get a twofer: wipe out the homeless and the poor and mess up the excess death numbers.
Winning.
Let’s hope Hilary sets her eye(s) on Lake Tahoe.
California and Nevada desperately need the water. It never rains, it pours, however.
Nieve question here, would it be possible to erect dikes to hold at least of the water coming in to Nevada and Arizona? If the water could be retained the following could be accomplished:
– the flooding could be slowed or eliminated in some areas
– Those states would have a temporary water supply
– Water begets water, it could help encourage growth in areas which would help with future water retention, etc.
– If the water drained into the soil it would eventually percolate into the aquifers helping to replenish them
Again, I don’t know enough, but it seems doable with some of the flat terrain in those two states.
As if the enviro nuts would let you do anything like that? It might endanger a tree frog.
Agreed. There were plans to have a series of dams for just that reason… and I see it well explained below before I authored this. The econuts made them start taking down existing dams rather than build more.
Just like in the case of the levy maintenance in New Orleans that the Sierra Club threatened lawsuits to stop, the econuts will never face the consequences of their actions.
Yet … it’s almost as though these Global Warmists are crestfallen that Hillary might actually wipe out the last remnant of “drought” in the most remote desert corner of CA

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Mommmaaaaaaaaaa aaa aaaa … We won’t be able to color the drought map BRIGHT YELLOW for another year …
Too bad they never followed through with their reservoir plans of decades ago. Now they instead have a partially constructed high speed rail bed to nowhere and continual drought between floods. The name of the storm is apt given their voting preferences.
This. So very much this.
Decades ago, California had a long term plan to build more reservoirs and water storage systems. This would have allowed the state to have enough water for an increasing population, with the occasional wet years filling the system for use during the frequent dry years. But of course the greens prevented that from happening, while the state’s population increased by many millions. So now California has near-permanent water shortages.
The problem could be easily solved for less money than was wasted on “high speed” rail projects that move zero passengers.

The BIGGEST Storm EVER!
For the region!!
Ever!!!
Trust me!!!!
I wonder what all these so called experts will say if this so called storm just dies out as it hits the coast of Mexico.
As others have.
Maybe the “Storm” is lying.
default condition for things called hillary.
“First ever”. Heh.
Hilary taking a dump on California?
What’s not to like?
On the plus side, the streets of SanFranshitshow will get cleaned.
And the run off will pollute the ocean like the Fukushima nuclear plant.
Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

Maybe the Salton Sea will get filled up again!
and then their homeowners policies doubled
I think it’ll be a first.
The first time someone has ever out-killed their own hurricane. We’ll cover the mud slide metaphor as it occurs.
I’m in SoCal.
This thing is a mousefart, and the updated forecast (now that Hilary has already been downgraded from Cat 4 to Cat 2, while still hours south of the border) means it probably won’t even rain hard enough, once it drops from hurricane to mere tropical storm, to wash the dust fully off the truck.
This is my shocked face.
Wait, are you saying that someone over-hyped Hillary into something stronger and more powerful than she really was?
This is my shocked face. I love double-meanings.
