What can I say? Something about the Barbie movie is even less interesting to me than the movie itself, if that’s possible.
It’s difficult to decide if it’s a clever satire of feminist ambitions, or feminist views. But given the pedigree of the director (and writer) … I don’t think they are that self-aware. They probably just think they made a comedy and it’s just their misandry screaming through it.
Anyways. I love the reviews by The Drinker, I highly recommend him. Never been wrong to date. I begged him to do a review of the TV show The Equalizer (with QUeen Latifah). Black single mother, lesbian, old and… uh body positive. She is an ex-CIA killer that shoot and Kung Fus the bad guys. Just ripe of a Drinker’s review.
Hollywood wouldn’t know clever, or satire, if they tripped over it. The writer’s strike came a few years too late.
One part of me asks, “The Barbie movie box office is over one billion dollars?!.” The other part of me asks, “Is that woman standing on the street corner, really wearing a respirator?!”
Asked and answered: fools. They walk among us.
It’s amusing how often entirely earnest attempts at feminist empowerment end up self-parodying.

The Drinker certainly has a way with words. His reviews are great entertainment and all the better being intoned in a lovely, sometimes slightly inebriated Scottish accent.

The Drinker is entertaining, but he’s not half the film critic people think he is. He’s selling nerdrage via freshman-level film analysis to people who think ephemeral pop culture is Serious Business. Good on him he’s found his niche and making money doing it, but the whole “every new film is the Worst! Woke! Ever!” is just getting tedious. The entire Barbie movie isn’t a tenth as viciously misandrist as any episode of Reba or Roseanne. The Drinker (and his audience) are just too young to remember that this stuff has been around forever.

My local “all news all the time” radio station in Philly has had multiple stories on this dumb movie and how supposedly great it is. It couldn’t be because our despicable media is trying to use this vehicle to yet again advance the left’s whole “men are cancer” narrative, could it? Meanwhile, they are of course ignoring every single revelation of the rampant corruption of Biden Crime Family.
There’s a Paul Hogan / Crocodile Dundee/ Barbie “meme” out there…..
