The City- Green Gambit: Plant-Based Meals Mandated at Senior Centers Once a Week
The city’s Department for the Aging is now requiring senior centers to provide at least one plant-based meal a week to New Yorkers older than 60 who eat at senior centers or have food delivered to their homes, according to an internal June 23 memo obtained by THE CITY.
The menu change — which allows plant-based entrees to replace the weekly vegetarian meal that senior centers already must provide — is part of a City Hall-led health kick that affects millions of meals for the golden-age set.

this is the other thing ya get with politicians a lot of inequity in taxation.
in this case absolutely none for 40 years. l wonder if the property owner stalled
on the repair work hoping mebbe the politicians would follow the cue.

Soylent Green Eggs & Ham
I think I’m going to take up motorcycle road racing while I still can . . . and pray for the worst. Along the way at least get some kicks before the whole shithouse burns down.
Die biting the throat!
Every animal on earth is essentially “plant based”
I’m no biologist, but seems like a tasty chunk of cow meat would be better for both the environment and the people eating it than a heavily processed “plant based” goo patty loaded with salt and fat to make it barely palatable.
A cow is nature’s way of allowing people to eat grass.
Splendid. A few years left and along comes Nurse Ratched to tell them what to eat.
As if intentionally murdering seniors in nursing homes by housing Covid infected patients among them during the “pandemic” wasn’t enough.
Andrew Cuomo take a bow.
Ya think!?
Speaking as a cranky old man who is determined to NEVER darken the door of a rest home on this mortal coil … I suspect the Rest Home patients are doing with their “plant based” meals … the same thing elementary school children did with their Michelle Obama meat-free lunches … pitching them straight into the bin.
More like fasting one day a week. That’s no way to treat your elders! Starving them.
This is not only in New York.
Alberta Continuing Care (think Lodge, SL3, SL4, SL4D and Long term care) regulations require that a nutritionist/dietician approve the meal plans. This past year, plant-based proteins were expected to be a part of the overall menu or the annual meal plan would not be approved. This added significant cost increases to the food budget AND greatly increased the resident complaints.
Fortunately, a good chef can incorporate some ingredients – beans, lentils, tofu, etc. into soups and chilis and you would never know it. But there is no way, that Impossible Meat – burgers or sausage will show up at our Lodge. Ever!
Ironically, New York is limiting processed meats – sausages, sliced meats, etc. – but it promoting the ultimate in processed foods.
I will say that we also got push back from the dietician because our facility has a policy to serve meals based on resident wishes on their birthday. Basically, the birthday person chooses one meal for everyone that day. The dietician was concerned that residents would choose too much red meat or the meals might not be nutritionally balanced (according to their charts). We balance off the cost of the “chosen” meals by giving less expensive options at the other meals of the birthdate. But meals that the residents still very much enjoy.
My sis-in-law used to work at a small hospital in Alberta, with a smallish long term care facility annexed. They had a kitchen which prepared daily meals, and my sis-in-law had lunch there, except on Thursdays, when the meal consisted of a cup of cottage cheese topped with chopped green onions. When she suggested to the nutritionist that if you’re trying to encourage people to eat, maybe this wasn’t the most appetizing or delicious choice, the nutritionist, who was morbidly obese (picture Alberta MLA Sarah Hoffman) haughtily stated that it was nutritionally adequate and that was that. So, on Thursdays, my sis-in-law had the option of bringing her own lunch or going out for pizza. The seniors in the LTC got to go hungry, or gag down this “lunch”.
Good luck arguing with a dietician or nutritionist in the “System”.

Looks like a option to me.. The problem is the politics in and around it.. Its not enough to live your own life anymore.. As if a cucumber sandwich is a religion or a right somehow.. That the food sucks here couldn’t cover anyway.. I’m sure the 3 to 5 thousand dollars a month includes food choices..
IMO.. Healthy in a old age home is a misnomer.. If they were healthy they wouldn’t be stuck in that place.. I will have a double cheese bacon burger and wash it down with some unprotected sex.. Then wheel me out back for ten cigarettes and a half a bottle of whiskey..
Give me a Wendy’s Triple ɓurger/onion rings after a hard days work or the large chicken southwest salad with large chilli and chocolate frosty and maybe a baked potato with sour cream / chives.
But only once in a while or that burger will put me in a food coma.
Wash it down with a large Cokè Zero.
Yummy, the bomb.
Trump is mocked for his McDonalds and Diet Coke diet … yet the “epicurean” Joe Biden is the one slurring his words, falling off his bicycle, and laying prone on the beach. Not to mention molestering little girls.
Er… would you like fries with that unprotected sex, sir?
As I read it, it looks like the bureaucrats are requiring one plant based “entree” per week. So, offer pork chops or chicken and gravy dessert to the senior citizens.
That is what I’ve learned from politicians and journalists. It’s okay to play word games to obscure the truth. Like Liberal MPs saying they don’t own a car and use bikes/public transport but fail to mention the cabinet ministers are provided a taxpayer funded driver and car.
Why do I have a feeling that the guys who invested heavily in Beyond-Meat are behind this?
Average lifespan of a senior in a care home is like a year. Should be mandatory steak and bacon at every meal.
Pretty pathetic people, when this is their priority,if a human has lived long enough to be in longterm care, they should get to eat whatever they want..
However these are the same Statist Thugs who killed thousands of people in “Government Run Care Centres”..to protect them from dying from Covid.
That “help” in “We are here to help you”..
Plant based meals are not healthy for humans. It won’t hurt to have the odd plant based meal, but over time it will lead to ill health, not improved health for most people.
These plant based subs are loaded with salt in futile attempt to make it palatable. I wonder if everyone gets a double dose of their BP meds on Beyond Meat day
You’ll find me in the street corner burning vegan cook books and in the grocery store spreading pork dust all over the bread shelf.
What percentage of people eat plant based and say “it’s not terrible” or “it doesn’t taste bad”, as if they care….
That’s their selling feature, “it’s not bad”
As if our diet is a thermostat on our planet the gubmint has their hand on…
Most of them would eat it if it tasted like shit.
For that matter, they would be sending us into ovens if they thought they could get away with it.
It’s so delicious it MUST be mandated into our diets by gubmint.
The people that eat “plant based” are retarded, knowingly or not.
Where did all this “mandating” come from? Did these people run on these policies? No, they didn’t. But they do it for a higher calling, their self-righteousness. Saving the Planet, no less. Or, at least, that’s how they justify their personal tyrannical megalomania to themselves.
There’s nothing like a Municipal Napoleon. The smaller the stage, the larger the ambition.
plant based.
a subset of that is fruit based, and with that variation, we get:

Plant based meat, sorta like saying you are a little bit pregnant. Slop being forced on the elderly, oh how the left scofted when we asserted they would make the slop mandatory.
Timmy’s donuts are plant based, aren’t they?
Yum, yum. I love donuts.
