What makes DARVO dangerous is that it tends to be people in power or with authority who use it – teachers and school admin, HR departments and employers, government staffers and politicians. It’s hard to fight it when those people have the resources and weight of the law and law enforcement behind them.
So-called HATE Speech is the pinnacle of DARVO. Your words hurt my feelings … and my feelings supersede your Right of Free Speech. I can FORCE YOU to celebrate Queer depravity … but if you express your displeasure … YOU are the criminal.
Not touched upon, but very much associated with this approach is the Two Tier Justice System. It requires a suspension of factual evidence on a selective basis driven by motive. It has to be driven by motive, because the argument fails when driven by facts.
I run a rental management business for landlords. I am very familiar with DARVO when it comes to delinquent, misbehaving tenants.
