Federal ministers said Tuesday they are monitoring for blockades of critical roads and infrastructure as striking federal workers made good on a promise to ramp up their picket efforts by disrupting traffic and limiting access to office buildings in downtown Ottawa.
More than 150,000 federal public servants with the Public Service Alliance of Canada were on strike for the seventh straight day as their union representatives continued to negotiate with the government for a bigger wage increase and more flexibility to work remotely.
Around the National Capital Region, hundreds of striking workers made their presence felt and heard, circling buildings, chanting through megaphones and blasting music throughout the morning.
Hundreds of public servants marched across the Portage Bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau, Que., where some of the biggest federal buildings are located, holding up traffic for a short period Tuesday morning.
Via email – “I am in close proximity to the walking route for the picket line. Every time a semi goes by there are a number of different picketers who give the classic “air horn” hand gesture to get trucks to honk.”
Solidarity! Striking federal workers could continue getting regular salaries while on the picket line

Shouldn’t these people be trampled with horses by now?
Those horns have to En Francais, or they don’t count!.. LeHonk!!
Bouncy castles or it isn’t a popular uprising.
Well at least they did not bring the dreaded bouncy castles. Shit could get serious then.
Still, I think I have seen someone wearing a confederate nazi button on their lapel. Clearly time to call in the stormtroopers.
Is that the one with a swastika with stars in it or the one with the stars in the Virginia Battle Flag replaced with swastikas?
I have a nice vintage brass and enamel GnR lapel pin with a naked lady riding a revolver while shooting a revolver into the air, I guess that would earn me a summary execution.
Raised a few eyebrows back when I wore a suit at work.
I await the Liberal Party apparatchik to launch a law suit against them for despoiling her peace in Ottawa. For that it was who launched the law suite against the convoy organizrs, a Liberl Party member who worked for the governmetn and was a member of PSAC.
With the oh so independent judge who sat over Tamara Linch’s case presiding.
China born Zexi Li
Awaiting the implementation of the Emergency Measures Act any minute now.
FREEZE THEIR ASSETS! TAKE THEIR MONEY! CONFISCATE THE UNION’S NESTEGG!
Oh.. they’re not fighting for their own livelihood, they just want more from the public teat? Well… that’s a whole different story…watch the government line up with them. Oink oink.
I read today that they are still on full salary until at least May 10th (WTF!). I predict that will be the date of the negotiated settlement.
The federal government needs to invoke the Emergencies Act and freeze their bank accounts.
Oh, wait….that kind of action is reserved exclusively for counter-revolutionary protests. Me bad.
Puncture the bouncy castles!
The complicating factor here is these people aren’t Western Canada redneck racist truckers, they are mainly Ontario liberals who vote for and support the Liberal Party and Government.
Give ’em whatever they want, Justin ,then add a few hundred thousand more to the bloated civil service.
Hell,I’ll take a paid position on the NPB is you’re short of candidates.
I sure hope no-one goes around giving them Molotovs.
It sure would suck if Ottawa burned.
Oh Wait ….
These federal insurrectionists get to go home at night and sleep in their own beds.
No camping in your truck sleeper for this entitled crowd.
Really… wanting to work from home as part of the deal.
Trudy’s really got his sack in the wringer on this one …. this is his voting base.
Such entitlement… Fire them all !
He could piss on his voting base and they would beg for more.
Kinda like the CPC voting base, now that I think about it.
FU. FY from Saskatchewan
I meant go fk your hat Liberal prk
Has Potato got Wuhan Flu again yet?
Tis impossible. The Dauphin was vaccinated. There is no way he could get COVVID.
My $$$ says e was monkeypoxxed by his wife’s companion.
Idris Elba has higher standards.
Have their bank accounts been frozen yet? Doesn’t the Emergency Act need to he invoked for this clearly anti government revolt?
I worked with these sub-humans for 15 years, I’m not proud of that but the family had to eat. It was horrible beyond words. Like living in an alternate universe.
PSAC makes other unions look better. Even Unifor, CAW, Teamsters and Mafia…
but a repeat myself.
Gaylord, I understand the “had to eat” reality of it, but how does one work with these types and not go home every night wanting to obliviate ones self? I grew up with a lot of guys who were sensible conservatives in their twenties, then became teachers. Do they really believe today in the Marxist bullshit they have to broadcast to the kids each day? In good conscience? I think if I were a public servant/school teacher, I’d be moonlighting as a heroin addict.
I thought you cannot protest in Ottawa anymore. Or is that just for conservatives and truckers.
Why are these fat government workers being treated softly when Truckers were were abused and trampled by Canada’s FBI, the Mounties ….?
Canada makes me sick. I am looking for a better place to go, but there ain’t much left that the woke and liberals haven’t wrecked. And how does one get money out of this country before it is all digitized and stolen by government. That is what they want to do … control us by controlling our money. I am so Fu*king sick of this fake country which has been ruined by the twat Trudeau. He needs to go to jail for what he’s done.
J West, I would hazard a guess that it is the government of Canada that sickens you. Not Canada itself.
Hang around and fight for it. You won’t be alone.
Actually where I live (Ottawa) the vast majority of my neighbours vote for this shit. So if you ask, yes I do hate this country, by individual names.
Mysogynists, homophobes, transphobes and racists all. Time for the royal canadian mounted thugs to stomp some grannies on walkers
More-of-your-taxers should not be compared with anti-vaxxers. The former believe in equality, since they want more money from Canadians, regardless of race, gender, etc. while the latter caused a disgraceful national emergency by obstructing the path of stomping horses. The Slow and Snail says that the cure for bad government is to give the strikers what they want, presumably as long as they don’t wrap a Canadian flag around the Terry Fox statue. That would be awful, and a front page story for two days, like their current coverage of Tucker being an agent of Satan. No need for the Prime Minister to flee the capital like a frightened rat again.
Fire half of them tomorrow.
Yes, but that should be independent of the strike.
The top half hopefully.
As years pass, it has become an immense point of pride that I was suspended by this union for actively opposing its policies, challenging and standing up to its corrupt executive. Some losing battles are worth the effort. Screw Peesack.
The Charge Of The Light In The Loafers Brigade.
Horsey Stomp some sense into them!
I wonder if the government will send in some masked operatives to wave certain flags?
And I certainly hope nobody accidentally triggers any car alarms near any of the picket lines.
Can all canadians not in PSAC sue them for the same claimed issues that the government allowed the class action lawsuit against the freedom convoy?
/of course not
Seize their bank accounts!
Obviously PSAC is an insurrectionist movement and must have it’s funds taken by the Federeal Government; it’s supporters arrested, or at least hit on the head with a truncheon.
Peesack is perfectly Stalinist. Fellow travelers and all.
Shame on any trucker who honks in support of PSAC picketers.
I hope the truckers actually give them the up-yours salute.
three years rocking on their collective nutz doing nothing and they expect a raise
Impossible to parody these entitled parasites.
“Honk to support us”..Oh wait I have PTSD caused by the Truckers Honking..
“We need more money to compensate us for Covid and the current level of inflation”
“Wait we made “Covid ,the Plandemic” so much worse than doing absolutely nothing..And that inflation is because of our actions and existence..”
And now …Dear Leader tells us;”There was no mandates” and Billions died from Covid-19..
These PSAC creatures were the ones obstructing Mr Harpers every move and then showed us all their love for Dear Leader and their joy on his taking power..
Impartial Civil Servants?..Oh yeah.
And every hour that they stay on strike, another crusted on Liberal/NDP drudge realizes they can see no difference in their lives..
Civil service at work? Civil service on strike?
How shall we know the difference?
And as the running total is announced..imaginary savings to the public purse by each day of no pay(Cause on strike),the taxpayers will cheer..
So clueless and useless, with total delusions of adequacy..
They believe.
This is the price of living in the bubble.
I was one of the 1,800+ federal workers who refused the vaccine and was sent home on leave without pay (LWOP). I recall that there was a lot of paperwork I had to sign beforehand to acknowledge that my pay would be stopped and my boss and her boss were both involved. I waited weeks for statements from Pay & Benefits. That was for one person out of 1,800, I can’t imagine how much bureaucracy would be involved for 100,000+ employees.
The striking workers will have their pay docked eventually but first they have to go back to work because the Phoenix pay system can only be accessed from a govt computer and requires a two step identification. The employee has to submit a leave request and then the system puts it in the boss’s queue for approval. Then the slow-motion train wreck that is the Phoenix process begins.
Be careful not to accidentally hit your car alarm button if you’re parked neat the PSAC strikers.
And when does the class action lawsuit for economic damage and emotional stress caused by the strike start?
Stan – rather think that the majority of the civil service functions are enhanced by the lack of inefficiency so often exhibited by our snivil servants. Certainly, as it pertains to the CRA,, this strike has definitely lessened the misinformation doled out daily by functionaries reading from prescribed scripts and who have no understanding of the Income Tax Act. Apparently, actual knowledge of and ability to understand said Act is not a requirement for a CRA agent arbitrarily denying an assessment. Said denial was duly overturned, but not without considerable cost to the poor taxpayer.
I met a civil servant once who put in an honest day’s work. I still remember it, January 26th, 1952.
