47 Replies to “Let Them Eat Tax”

  1. So the next step is people will have to know the weight limits for the various food items?
The government will try to blame the manufacturers/retailers for not labeling these items as taxable.

  2. Keep in mind that these are the same people that want to reduce the nitrogen in our soil as well. Death culture.

    1. Ah, nitrogen in soil. Where pray tell does it comes from? Oh from fertilizers you say? Why do you need fertilizers? Because you need to replace the nitrogen fixed in the soil that crops need to grow. Oh? How did the nitrogen get in the soil in the first place? From the atmosphere that contains 78% nitrogen through the reaction with oxygen during lightning storms forming nitrogen oxides that are washed out of the air by rain to fall on the soil to provide an essential nutrient for plants to grow. It’s called the nitrogen cycle. It used to be taught in elementary grades. It’s a natural process. Fertilizers simply help to replace the nitrogen that is added because of intense higher yield agriculture necessary to feed people and animals. If we didn’t replace it, only low yield plants or weeds would grow and people will starve.

But today our so called environmental scientists call nitrogen fertilizers pollutants. Go figure. As time progresses, progressives get stupider.

      1. Those who want to reduce our ability to grow food have to assume room temperature before they can do more damage.

  3. Firstly, I wouldn’t buy such garbage. It’s not food it’s sugar filler and nothing more. Stop feeding your mouth and consider your stomach and the rest of your body.

You don’t need to buy everything that is advertised.

Try something new … try to bless yourself with a healthy body … learn what to eat and how to prepare it. Women aren’t cooking much these days, so it may be up to you.

    1. Gee, thanks for not being preachy while discussing the issue of the government stealing money from citizens who are free to fcking choose to eat, not eat whatever the fck they want.

      1. You sound angry and mean and foul-mouthed. I think I may have found the fool who is eating too much sugar.

I was not preaching, I was giving some good advise to anyone who doesn’t already know the difference between sugar-filler and nutrition … perhaps someone just like you. Dunno for sure.

        1. Not angry, just tired of being told how to live. My girlfriend and I cook constantly.
I have a hard, physical job that most men half my age couldn’t do for an hour. I don’t need advice.
Next you’ll be telling me not to drink beer and then the real swearing begins.
If you really feel you’re a font of healthy living, great, but that’s not what the post is about – you.
And if you can’t take criticism that is your problem.
I read just about all the posts on SDA with respect because its a place with freedom in mind.

  4. Buy staples and grow what you can – learn to cook, learn to preserve.

Or just lie back and think of Justin.

    1. I wouldn’t mind stapling every grocery and fuel bill to the foreheads of those responsible for this but self defense is illegal in this frozen backwater.

  5. As if the local convivence store isn’t expensive enough.. Sin tax fatigue?.. Its would be nice to say you get what you vote for but we are so deep in this hole that no mere election is going to solve it..

  6. 95% (a guess) doesn’t have the land base, work ethic, skills, knowledge or equipment to do anything other than gardening for fun. I have offered everything needed to city folks to come out to the farm and find real food security. Most think driving more than 15 minutes out of an urban enclave to be ‘the road less traveled ‘. Starting to think just look after me and my family and the rest; well, you had your chance

  7. Sheesh … talk about your government-corporate interlocking directorates … and THE PEOPLE get screwed coming and going.

      1. The above is street theatre.

Things will get worse in this country and it is thanks to the idiots who gladly voted for tax hikes.

    1. I don’t begrudge retailers making a profit, but i cannot forgive them price fixing the cost of bread. That was biblical in its evil-mindedness. Galen and others should have done prison time for that.

      1. Price fixing has been going on for a lot longer than our time.
About 100 years ago the light bulb manufacturers built too good of a unit and people didn’t need to buy so many cause they lasted.
Well the manufacturers couldn’t have that, so they got together, colluded and decided to build a 100 hour bulb so each could go on to more profit, leveling the playing field so to speak .
        The beginning of planned obsolescence.
Then I give the oil guys like Rockefeller as an example, his Standard Oil empire had to be broken up into the Seven Sisters due to his monopolistic rackets.
Ma Bell came next and here we are.

        1. I did not see any problems with the price of bread based on inflation, and there was always another store that had one brand or another on sale.

  8. The flame under the pot with the frog just got turned up another smidge. A few frogs are starting to notice that the water is getting very warm.

Why doesn’t the gubmint just cut to the endgame and tax everyone 100% of their income? If the grubbymint can get everyone to wear a mask, I don’t see them getting any pushback on demanding everyone hand over their paycheck.

  9. While one can appreciate that the above is junk food, you are missing the point.

Consumers are still paying high prices and high taxes for food.

Gardening will be a fad embraced far too late.

    1. There aren’t enough farmers to sell directly retail to an entire city .
The administrative costs alone would financially destroy them.
I have been buying from the farmer direct and as it is he has too many customers and turns down many more due to time and supply constraints.
Was buying beef on the hoof 3 years ago at average $ 3 to $4 per pound.
      Have you seen it lately?
It’s cheaper for me to hit the city grocery store especially at my convenience.
The farmers input costs have grown substantially and they get too many people willing to pay at any price as it is.
It’s even got the attention of Beth Dutton on that fictionalized TV series Yellowstone as a way to save their ranch and rake in the coin to save it.

      1. Depends where ya are. And good on the boys selling beef on the hoof at a premium. They deserve it.

The thing is that no one is going to built out direct to consumer retail off their land unless there is demand for it. Demand is growing and it’s getting built out. Takes awhile to do because we are already busy.

Central BC is doing a great job of it. And it’s happening elsewhere.

I’m all in on wheat and canola. I don’t eat it as it’s all bad for you but that’s what I’m set up to do.
        I can’t really change that.

I have set up garden plots for lease and the return on that per acre is 5x vs canola. Just word of mouth. All I do is mark out plots, set up a watering tank and some compost bins for folks.

When it’s dry I will water anyone’s plot that is stressed.

      2. FO Dumba$$.
I remember real farmers markets every effin week, with fish!
The only real part of your moniker is the $$.

    2. I’m sorry.

Could you repeat that, dumb-@$$ … farmer.

I speak in only in proper sentences with actual punctuation.

  10. Please, for the love of Christ, stop preaching about the type of food.
Its none of your fcking business what somebody wants to eat.
I ate three donuts on Thursday. I never eat donuts – and yes, that’s how I spell it so pound salt.
Yesterday I did a workout that would crush most 30 year old men I see with their tum tums and pencil necks and girly arms and I’m 59.

You’re no better than a nanny state prog when you tell others what they can and can’t eat. Jesus!

Its about the fcking government constantly looking for ways to sneak & steal the wealth of the citizenry.

    1. Is it OK if I go cannibalistic ?
Asking for my End of The World type friends.
And yes , /s , just polished off 1/2 a cheese cake, yum, yum.

  11. It appears to be Hagen Daz ice cream in his left hand. The only ice cream I’ll buy – flavours like vanilla contain only cream, egg yolk, sugar and vanilla. Not a necessity but I like it.

  12. Many, many more taxes to come. Where do you think the Government of Canada (read LPC) will get the cash to pay for the mountains of debt they have spent creating their glorious equitable society? From you, Mr. and Mrs. Normal. Wait until primary residence sales are taxed or the estate death tax on all you have accumulated as they do in the United States. This is peanuts. Canadians collectively are not smart enough to learn as we were in this situation 20 years ago. Just you wait. Here come the pain!! (Apologies to Carlito)

    1. Jckirlan – We may not have “estate death tax” but – let me tell you – the final return for a deceased person can end up with a lot of money heading towards ze gov. The biggest problem is with RRSPs and RRIFs as – when one dies – the TOTAL value of those assets ends up as income on that final return, and that can put poor old Granny (who was living on as little as possible so to leave something to the family) in the Peter Pocklington tax bracket and much of what she wished to pass on will go elsewhere. Also, should one have a few stocks and bonds tucked away (think mutual funds among other things), all these are deemed to have been disposed of 1 minute before death, and said deemed disposition has to be reported on that final return. This can also result in taxes owing, even though nothing has been sold. Families dealing with the death of a loved one can often find there is serious financial stress because of CRA’s rules.

  13. Look at the self-righteous Canadians telling us what and how to eat!
    They care so effin much!
Screw them, and the Karen boat the floated up on!

  14. Why does this surprise anyone?

When Jagmeet was whining at Galen Weston the Bread Price Fixer, about how much Loblaws makes each year, he didn’t stop to ask how much HST that Loblaws collected on behalf of government, nor how much Loblaws paid in taxes to the same government.

the Government of Canada is a voracious predatory consumer of taxes to feed the liberal desire to control everything.

    1. Both the CPC and the LPC are liberals.
      Who did the GST, again?
I have one thing to say to the Canadian, provincial and municipal gov’ts, over the last 4-5 decades:
      FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK YYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU!
Leave me alone, with my mopeds, batteries and guns aholes!!!!!
Actually, leave me alone with my car, and keep your number plates off me, to boot!

  15. The sad fact is that Canadians are willing slaves. Canadians love the idea of a number tracking each and every car owner, and they love the idea of stormtroopers to be there in case you “fake” your tracking number. This is true on both the left and the right, so, sadly, Canada can look forward to nothing better than rule by insane cops who work for politicos.
    So FU.

  16. We’ll see what new taxes the Gnome has for us on Tuesday. Stock up on beer this week ahead of the tax increase.

  17. I just went to buy dogfood tonight. 12lb bag is now 10. 5lb bag down to 4lb. Same price. (Price went up twice already since 2020.)

  18. Actually, this whole “has to be six or more items or it’s a snack” was supremely stupid and a direct attack on singles for whom six of a given item will not be consumed within a reasonable time. It was fine for us as a family of five to pick up a six-pack of buns or whatever; now we’re down to two, those six-packs (think bakery in particular) mean our diet is more monotonous than it would be if we were able to purchase a couple of muffins or buns or – heaven forfend – doughnuts at a time and so introduce more variety into our diet.
