Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Privy Council Office commissioned confidential research on a national electronic ID system. No reason was given. Parliament has repeatedly rejected any mandatory identification program as intrusive and costly: ‘Adoption may be difficult especially among Canadians already distrustful of public institutions.’

Alberta has been making lots of money over the years. Alberta used that money to expand its government workforce. Government workforces vote NDP or Liberal. Also see this in big corporations. Their bureaucracy becomes government like, with large parts of their staff relying on navigating govt regulations, creating their own rules for others to follow etc. They vote NDP and Liberal as well.
