    Personally spin offs using someone else’s IP is lazy writing and treads very deeply into the murky depths of FanFic and SlashFic writers. These people are… interesting. These are the people who unironically claim that copywrite laws need to end sooner so that people can ‘Fix’ stories without having to wait decades first. Actual word used – FIXED.

    These are also the sorts of people who happily talk about how someone they follow has got an ongoing Harry Potter Fan Fic that is one million words and growing, except it is set in the 1200s and Harry is a eunuch and the school is in Africa… or something. It was weird.

    What is it that these people don’t seem to understand about concepts like Lore when it comes to vomiting all over established IP. If you keep the names and just change all the surrounding environment and motivations then you are NOT retelling a story. If you were to make a car chase movie where the heroes are called Aramis and D’Artagnan you are NOT retelling the Three Musketeers, you are making a car chase movie.

    Main Stream Entertainment is just as screwed up as the media.
