If Peterson is making that kind of money or more, then that is good news, it will help him sue the crap out of the Ontario College of Psychologists.
@Kate, at first I reflexively agreed with you, indeed I got that as your point and thought it a good one, and still do. Then, I looked at some of the data. Crowder’s YT numbers are pretty good, very similar to Peterson’s (6.27m Peterson, 5.93 Crowder). And I strongly suspect YT has worked harder to suppress Crowder than it has Peterson.
OTOH, Crowder doesn’t have the books (5m++ sales as of 2020 — 10m now?), he doesn’t have the rockstar-like tours, and he probably doesn’t have the draw to interview (right-leaning) major political and media figures the way Peterson does. The books could well be on the order of 40-50m over a five year period, and are still selling fairly well. The tour could easily be netting on the crude order of $1m per stop (i.e., it’s not 10m, it’s not 100k).
But Peterson’s not going to give up his tour revenues to the DW, he’s not going to give up his book revenues to the DW, and interviews with Rex Murphy, John Howard, and Pierre Poilievre, however excellent, aren’t going to draw the average DW subscriber.
In terms of global impact, you’re right, Peterson all the way. In terms of a halo player distributing instant credibility, Peterson. In terms of net revenue to the DW? Quite possibly pretty comparable, perhaps with Crowder leading if he produces his own content and has to work more days than Peterson.
To briefly update: Peterson’s running about 9 podcasts/mo (Dec 2022 and owned by DW?) plus an amazing array of tour videos that presumably the DW doesn’t own. Lots of other Peterson content that’s freely available from TVO or other legitimate sources. DW very likely paying Peterson’s production costs. He’s a professor, isn’t going to like the idea of hiring a big team on his own dime unlike Crowder.
DW wants about 18 events/mo from Crowder, and they get total ownership.
We don’t really have enough info, but unless you think having dozens of different Peterson live shows are pearls beyond price (one occasionally might well be, dozens though? I’m not sure) the amount of content produced by Crowder for DW ownership might well be about 2:1, with a crudely comparable fanbase.
I’d wildly speculate the JP deal is on the order of 10-20m a year, with likely more favourable terms than the Crowder terms sheet, including DW covering all production costs, and JP likely retaining ownership of more content.

And his dear ‘friends’ are unaware that he’s spent years fighting frivolous bans and strikes that violate no YT rules? Might as well have a clause that Crowder gets docked 50% if it snows at least an inch in December.

I agree with the reasons why Crowder turned it down, DW is at the mercy of YouTube, FB, Apple etc….. and Crowder wants to use/create platforms that don’t hate conservative right wingers.
Airing this in public isn’t helping anyone’s cause and will just fuel the left. The DW does a lot of good but at the end of the day they tread lightly to protect revenue streams at the cost of suppressing certain stories. But Crowder should not have played that recording and this whole thing has hurt his image, he will either launch his own platform like the DW and bring on partners or this could be the beginning of the end for him, he can’t change course of the path he is on now.
I like them both but I have been following Crowder for way longer than any DW personality.

Also that $50 million sounds like a big number, until you realize that it’s over four years and you get to pay staff and production costs out of that, and there’s a good chance that it’s going to be whittled down if youtube decides to take a dump on you. In fact, based on the numbers he shared, a content creator could wind up going bust.
Big tech is the ENEMY and Crowder’s entire point is that conservative media entities should NOT be giving them any power over the content of their message, which DW apparently is doing.
Otherwise we may as well all just watch CBC.

I already know 95% of what they’re going to say, I don’t need them to say it again in a nice, slick presentation. Also Shapiro is a bit annoying on camera.

And here is the larger point that makes it very hard fore me to support -any- of these “Conservative” commentators or web-sites: When was the last time you saw a Lefty pull a stunt like this? Crowder sold out when he joined CRTV. I stopped watching when his segment on s.230 of the CDA repeated, verbatim, all the demonstrably false bollocks that Prager & co. had been spouting for years. What’s worse, Crowder knew it was false because he structured the segment so that the lawyer brought on the segment to lend credibility to the rant never had to say anything demonstrably false about the law (which would get the lawyer in trouble with his bar association). That’s a level of propaganda construction I’m not willing to overlook.
