I Want A New Country

Fuel on the fire;

Next year, Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax will rise to 14¢ per litre of gasoline, despite the hardship caused to Canadian families by the rising cost of gasoline and the runaway inflation that is itself the direct result of the Trudeau government’s orgy of spending and borrowing.

By 2030, the carbon tax will be 37¢ per litre right across the country.

Except in Quebec.

    1. Those same charities have bought the Malthusian lie and are unwilling to give up their cushy cuts off of the charity steak for the sake of truth. I would point out that the Salvation Army went woke because…they thought that by adopting the world’s position, they would prosper themselves and their constituents. It didn’t work out that way because reality is a cruel taskmaster with no patience for bovine excrement.

    2. You would have thought that the Dutch would have learned something about fascism, wouldn’t you?

      1. Perhaps. A goodly number went along and even collaborated with their Nazi occupiers. The Canadian army liberating the Netherlands found the Dutch SS the fiercest foes.

  1. Not in Quebec?
It’s time to end this dumpster fire of a country.
Taxing everything and pretending it’s about controlling pollution? Failing to tell the truth on anything?
Totally irresponsible leadership across the board.

  2. If they dont put in a carbon tax you might spend your? money on things that actually work.. Cant have that..

    1. Liberals want a carbon tax using the argument that increasing energy costs WILL get companies to change their behavior and use less energy (and emit less carbon).

Liberals also want increases in the minimum wage, and argue that increasing labor costs WON’T get companies to change their behavior and use less labor (cut jobs).

  3. Reading that CTV link was like reading a propaganda primer on how to soften the intent of the gun confiscation. Words like “restricting access” instead of banning were typical, but what else would we expect from the (leftist) state media. If, by some miracle, PP were to become PM and if he became Red-Tory brain-dead and continued funding the media, he would enjoy the most anti-conservative media the deranged dominion has ever seen.

    1. ” If, by some miracle, PP were to become PM and if he became Red-Tory brain-dead and continued funding the media, he would enjoy the most anti-conservative media the deranged dominion has ever seen.”

And he also wouldn’t touch the Liberal gun legislation.

  4. So the plan is to cut food production to create famines in the third world which will produce tens of millions of refugees who will flood into the developed world.

    1. Correct … we are being ‘corralled’ …. once we are all more or less equally impoverished, the serious population reduction will begin. The semi armed middle class are in the way … must be gotten rid of … Hmm take away food and energy and it’s done.

Remember how the Chmer Rouge in Cambodia killed anyone with an education and anyone who wore glasses …. a sign the one may read .. anyone who may be smart … they offed over a million of their fellow citizens …. Think that can’t happen here?

Frank Zappa mocked that thought on his Freak Out Album …. dodo dote ‘n dodo … Kansas.

  5. 22.3% of the population gets a special deal?

And the Laurentian Elites are freaking out about Alberta?

“Far out, man.” Someone should alert Andrew Coyne. I’d love to see him tie himself into a logical pretzel trying to justify this to his audience.

  6. People who are comfortable have time to notice what is going on and complain, demand competent leadership. If your worried about where to find your second (or third) job and where your going to keep your children warm when you lose your house, you won’t be a threat to the ‘cloud people’.

    1. On the contrary…when people have nothing left to lose they become ultra-dangerous.

The French Revolution started with “coffee houses” like Smalldeadanimals talking about the same stuff we talk about, but once everyone got hungry…things changed. Talking and writing suddenly took a back seat.

  7. China pollutes the world with impunity and their lad in Canada, Trudeau is trying to make us Canadians pay for it.

The pollution will not be cleaned up and the climate will do whatever the climate does, regardless of we in Canada do.

It is up to the Chinese and other SE Asian countries to cut the polluting and clean up their pig styes BEFORE I AM WILLING TO PUT IN A NICKLE TO SAVE THIS INSANE WORLD. Canada is not a big polluter and we should get a pass .. like Quebec does.

  8. We can’t get a new country when stupid people keep voting for superficial crap like hair and bending whatever way the wind blows to appease the most inane ideas concocted by the stupid people for the stupid jerks they vote for.
We can’t fix it, it’s been woven into the fabric of the nation for decades.

    1. This clip and the subject deserve their own blog entry. Good for him! And we should all be doing this; in letters to the papers; to The Tyrant and his goons; and to our own MPs.

And it is not about ‘hunting rifles’ or ‘grandpa guns’ or being sideswiped by legislation aimed as reducing crime. It is about hundreds of thousands or millions of law-abiding adults who are being singled out and persecuted for owning firearms and having sporting and professional pastimes that have, for as long as Canada has existed, been seen as legitimate and valuable. And still are.

We all know what the issue is with “gun crime”: Its criminals. I don’t have an issue with PALs and enforcing restrictions on criminals not having firearms, and wish that the police were doing more to deal with them and that. But if I am a law-abiding Canadian who has a PAL it should not matter if I want to shoot tin cans with an air rifle or if my professional and sporting interests are modern semi-automatic military pattern firearms. Indeed, given just how universally law-abiding those with restricted and grandfathered prohibited PALs are, the argument should be to get more people on board!

  9. Of all the bad policies to come of this government, this is the least bad. If we’re going to counteract CO2 emission-and we are and probably should-a carbon tax is the way to do it. All the other carbon reduction policies from biofuels mandates to renewable subsidy BS should be shredded and replaced with a simple carbon tax on fuels not synthesized from carbon in the air. That and legalizing nuclear and ending farm subsidies. Of course, they aren’t doing that, because they’re idiots and cowards.

    1. Carbon tax will make absolutely zero difference to the environment. All it does is feed the inflation dragon.

        1. The link between CO2 rise and temperature anomaly is appearing to be more and more elastic as time goes by, as the 21st century “pauses” indicate.

    2. Carbon taxes have added about 6 billion dollars to government coffers and has had no effect on carbon levels.

The introduction of the BC carbon tax is imprecisely estimated but does not appear to have led to a detectable statistically significant reduction in aggregate CO2 emissions.

      1. That’s rather debatable. BC’s fuel usage has grown much slower since the carbon tax was implemented-but aviation fuel usage has not, and it’s the one that isn’t carbon taxed. There’s a lot of confounding factors admittedly but this is still about the least bad idea out there.

        1. No….they are all bad ideas. As for “fuel usage”, many in BC would cross the border to buy gas in the U.S. That’s why the “usage” has dropped.

          1. I’m not even saying that’s necessarily wrong, but I would kind of like to see some data backing that idea up.

          2. Drive across 49 to the first US town, from Montana to Idaho to Washington, & observe all the AB & BC license plates parked at the pumps. Saw them 2 months ago in MT. In addition, my lovely bride was stateside Thanksgiving weekend. Not only did she fill up the tank, she filled three 5 gallon Jerry cans & brought ’em back. Drive to the Crowsnest Pass, AB, and observe all the BC license plates parked at the pumps. Saw them yesterday. Drive to Walsh, AB, and observe all the SK license plates parked at the pumps. Saw them 2 weeks ago.

There’s your study and your data. Even the Covidiots who have been jabbed numerous times recognize cheaper gas prices.

          3. You won’t get it from government. Just like you will never get the facts about COVID deaths or vaccine deaths.

    3. The lunatic again uses the word “subsidies” without having a bloody clue what he is talking about. We need do nothing about CO2 emissions. Nothing.

      1. I know what a subsidy is and yes we probably need to do something about CO2 emissions. Build a bridge and get over it, or be left behind when others do.

        1. No you don’t know what a subsidy is. Most leftists don’t have a clue….they believe anything short of 100% taxation is a “subsidy”. And don’t use infantile phrases like “build a bridge and get over it”. We don’t need to do anything about CO2 emissions. Nothing.

          1. Well good thing I’m not a leftist. I just want to end subsidies and agricultural ones in particular. No more below-market water or low-interest loans for you! Or anybody!

“We don’t need to do anything about CO2 emissions. Nothing.”

The data is increasingly clear that it would be a good idea. See you on the wrong side from the right side, over the bridge.

    4. unthing.

“…If we’re going to counteract CO2 emission – and we are and probably should – a carbon tax is the way to do it’..”

      Complete & Utter BULLSHIT.
The planet has had at times, well over 1000ppm of CO2 without ANY ill EFFECT what-so-freaking ever. Fossil Fuels are not, nor have ever been the issue…..You, like so many walking brain dead have bought into the BIG LIE.

I would note, the combined amounts of CO2 spewed via Volcano, under water vents etc. completely eclipses anything & everything our vehicles have ever produced since the 1850’s. Add in earthly orbital shifts….??
Add in Solar radiative effects or lack thereof….??

Current levels are what..? 380-400 ppm…WE NEED MORE Co2 not less.

However if you truly believe CO2 taxation is effective, Kindly provide data that shows what the effect of BC’s decadal Carbon tax has been besides robbing folks of their hard earned money..??

SWEET F ALL I warrant No.?? The Turds has/will have the identical effect – SFA.

CLIMATE CHANGE is natural and neither you or anyone else on this planet can do a damned thing about it….but Whine, Bitch and LIE.

    1. Why does Quebec?

“Trudeau is giving Quebec a special deal on carbon taxes and giving other Canadians higher gas prices and heating bills,” explains Franco Terrazzano, Federal Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), the organization that discovered the discrepancy while examining federal documents.

  10. Anyone who thinks Canada’s contribution to CO2 affects the global climate in any humanly discernable way is clear evidence that they’re a drooling idiot and should be put in an asylum.
Anyone who thinks raising taxes on critical-need energy use – heating your fcking home when its -30 – is a piece of shit.
Anyone who thinks the government should have a say in what property a law-abiding citizen may own is, at best, a sub-human and should be sterilized and or culled immediately.

  11. Let’s hope that when the next western protest independence movement rises that the people will not be spooked as easily as they have in the past by the lies of the MSM.

  12. I do hope Zoolander keeps the carbon taxes at full power in the Maritimes. Those idiots voted for it.
He’ll probably fold on the tax there while keeping it intact on the food producing provinces.

    1. Indeed. “Those idiots voted for it.” But none of the Maritime provinces have ever had an NDP government, but everything west of Ontario has? Weird eh?

  13. “Except in Quebec”

    I live in Ontario.

Just wondering. Do you people in Buffalo see this? If so, what is taking you so long?

  14. If the carbon tax rises 100% in Canada, and rises 10% in Quebec, if the next 9 SCOC justices are from Quebec and none are from Canada, if the equalisation / welfare funds funnelled into Quebec from western Canada were to double… if the Toronto Maple Leaves were to relocate to Three Rivers, Quebec…
If only ALL guns were outlawed in Canada, and then those very same confiscated guns were given away freely to every adult in Quebec…

There isn’t anything so outrageous in Canada, with 20% more to be given to the under achievers in Quebec that the rest of Canada could do anything about. If it was taken to the SCOC, if there were a million truckers parked in Ottawa and people there were actually starving from being unable to bring food in from civilised areas…

There’s nothing, nothing the rest of Canada could do which would make any difference to this situation.

Separation is the only way forward for Western Canada.

You don’t feed a boil, or nurture an infection on your leg, hoping it will see the ways in which its been wrong. Hoping that by being nice to it, it will change and “come round” …

and Carey Price, is 100% correct. You see, it doesn’t matter if you follow the laws, if you’re THE BEST citizen has no bearing on how the Gov’t of Canada decides it will mistreat you.
You’re all worthless scum in their minds…

    1. marc

      From Theo in Fort Hills…

“…Separation is the only way forward for Western Canada…”

That is for Damned Sure.!! Overdue since that filthy progenitor of the Turd screwed Alberta in 1981 with his NEP. That one cost me…and I’m still pissed over it.

      1. When my father and I argued about the NEP a few decades ago, his final response was, “AB needs to get over the NEP”
My response was, “we’ll get over it when Canada pays AB back for this” (I should have said, “with interest”).

        The law above you,
        The gov’t above the law,
Quebec above the gov’t of Canada… yes.

    1. I have been saying that for years. The ignorami living in large urban centres have long ago forgotten what unpins their existence. They take energy for granted. They need a lesson.

  15. Coneheads.
The self professed superiority of Quebecers has always been amazing.
If Alberta is not entitled in law and practice to the same rights and freedoms as Quebec,we are free to separate our affairs from such leeches.

Justine the Petulant, will be a footnote of history..
Remembered in the free nation of Buffalo as one of the irritants that that finally freed us.
For we have nothing in common with these citizens of Can Ahh Duh who permit this permanent kleptocracy..
Can Ahh Duh has no future.
We are following Venezuela and Zimbabwe down the same old path.
Enriching a whole class of freeloaders and parasites as the nation collapses into insolvency..
    Kleptocracy is unsustainable.
For once the “Mugs” realize they will be punished for productive work..Productive work ceases.
    As the soviet learnt.
“They pretend to pay us,we pretend to work”.

Damn right we need a new country.
One which clearly defines the territory within which its common laws shall apply.
And one that permits no free luncher permanent residence.
The Banishment of Gang Green, will be an urgent primary move by the New Government, henceforth to be known as “The Stampede”.

The history of Canada should be preserved, for it is a stark lesson of “How not to”preserve a nation.

  16. What the producing provinces should be doing is imposing an export tax on oil and gas out of the producing provinces equal to that of the federal carbon tax and then use that money to rebate it to the residents and businesses within the producing provinces. That way, the businesses and residents of the producing provinces are protected from the federally imposed carbon tax while the additional cost is forced onto the rest of the country.

      1. I guess that would explain the nervousness of the Trudeau administration to Line 5, eh? And that’s just the start of it. Do tell….where will the oil and gas come from otherwise? Speaking of insane, take a look in the mirror.

Let’s try an experiment….let’s turn off the taps for a week in January. Any guesses as to what will happen?

      2. Unthing….

I love that idea…Why the hell not..??

The only one shooting anything is you and your ignorant pie hole

        1. Not only would it put huge economic pressure on the rest of Canada, it also makes the cost of doing business in the producing provinces much cheaper and would likely pull companies out of the high cost areas.

  17. A government statement. Quebec is not THE exception.

Since 2019, every jurisdiction in Canada has had a price on carbon pollution.
Canada’s approach is flexible: any province or territory can design its own pricing system tailored to local needs, or can choose the federal pricing system.
The federal government sets minimum national stringency standards (the federal ‘benchmark’), that all systems must meet to ensure they are comparable and effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
If a province or territory decides not to price pollution, or proposes a system that does not meet these standards, the federal system is put in place.
    […]
The federal fuel charge currently (Fall 2022) applies in Ontario, Manitoba, Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nunavut.
The federal Output-Based Pricing System currently applies in Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Nunavut, and partially in Saskatchewan.

Carbon pollution pricing systems in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, British Columbia and New Brunswick currently continue to meet the federal benchmark stringency requirements.

    1. “A government statement. Quebec is not THE exception.”

      (a government statement? Oh, *I* believe them…who wouldn’t, right?…;)

The five other provinces that have their own version of a carbon tax are *not* getting the special rate that Quebec is, even Nova Scotia which has a virtually identical cap-and-trade system to the Quebec model…why is Nova Scotia not getting the same reduced rate as Quebec?

  18. Nothing new under the sun.

    Quebec has always been special.

    This is what Canadians want.

    1. OK, it’s the poutine with those special Kebec curds that makes it all worth while.

      bverwey

  19. Whiskey tango foxtrot. QUEBEC gets a special freaking carbon tax deal? If the cpc were smart they could have won the last election on that. I hate this country so damn much. It’s a kleptocracy where the east steals from the west and then they have the gall to call us hicks. Screw you Toronto

    1. Yeah, its hard when Toronto metrosexuals and Frogs have bigger balls than the west does.
      Grow a pair and fight!

    1. Because they’re the only ones holding the feds back.
Seriously, why don’t you have a referendum on separation?
Oh yeah, because you’re a bunch of pussy-willows.

  20. How long do we suffer to set an example before we notice nobody is watching?.. Or even cares.. I say bring the pain.. All those nifty new liberal voters in big houses with 4 cars in the driveway deserve it.. Bring the pain..

    1. I used to think a man has a right to fly about in a Lear Jet, but then the Lear Jet crowd started telling me I can’t drive about in a car, and made my moped illegal. Time to shoot them down.

  21. I’m pretty sure Castreau does these things mostly to demoralize and anger the right.

None of this insanity makes the left happy. They do it to make you as miserable as they are.

    Awful people, him especially.

  22. It looks like goalie Carey Price has been hit in the head with a puck too many times. Additionally, he hates polar bears!
