4. I can’t even remember the last time I set foot in a Legion branch, and contrary to most members nowadays, I actually have enough military service to wear a few real medals on the left side.

5. Grandpa lost a leg in WWI. Lost an uncle in WWII. Brother served 10 years with RCAF. Stopped buying poppies when they caved to public health. Never buying one again.

6. Government funding? Yup. They wanted proof of vaccination to attend services inside their hall last year so needless to say they can go to hell. Apologies to vets past and present. I guess I’ll stay home and remember your service and sacrifice from there.
   Noticed on their facebook they referred to the passing of one of their members as “Comrade” followed by the name.
   I don’t know if this is standard practice at all legions but that’s about the poorest choice of a word one could possibly use, especially coming from the legion.
   You’re either colossally stupid or a fellow traveller and don’t care at this point.

9. If I’m presented with ‘rainbow poppies’ when I pick up my kit to sell them I’m not sure that I’ll accept them. It’s an affront to all veterans.

   As for using the term ‘comrade’ in referring to veterans? An outright insult. While the term may sound inclusive, etc., to believers in the ‘woke’ stupidity that is being used entirely inappropriately, it is generally understood to be a term used in communist regimes and is therefore unacceptable.

10. I’m not here to defend any woke Legion policies, but understand that the Legion does tremendous work helping Vets get deserved benefits from VA.
    From my vantage point, at 62 I’m one of the younger members in my Legion. There may not be a Legion in 20 years.

11. So the Legion went gay?? Is it optional or required? I was a member for a few years many years ago but I didn’t like drinking beer with boring people who somehow thought lying to me about their service was appropriate.

       1. There’s a photo we have of spouse’s grand-parents with two young’uns. When I first saw this many years ago, I said “Oh, it’s Auntie A and Mum (mother-in-law). Was told that, no, this was a photo of spouse’s grandparents with their first two children who both died young. We have no idea where they are buried, and rather doubt if their graves have markers. The woman in the photo died suddenly on the farmstead up in the Peace River country when her husband was away, and it was left to her two young sons to cope. They hauled her corpse to the nearest train station, where the train crew took mercy on them and took their mother’s corpse into the next town where she could be buried. Even then, it was many years before her grave had a marked; the younger son did remember and – in his later years – place a proper gravestone on his mother’s grave.
          On my spouse’s side there are also unmarked graves. There’s an old RC graveyard just down the hill from where I (coincidentally – spouse’s family had moved away) grew up and in which pioneer RC families are buried, including those of spouse. The local RC church has records, but rather think there are no markers on some of the family graves. That was as it was; a wooden cross would be erected but, if the family had no resources or had moved away, a permanent monument would never happen.

13. I’m not a vet, but a friend of mine is heavily involved in the local Legion and he’d burn the hall down before he allowed this to happen.

    There may be more to this. A lot of halls rent the space to make money; they may have been in a bind. Refusing the rental might have brought on a lawsuit they couldn’t afford.

14. There’s been some serious issues with the “national” Legion trying to take over local branches for various “infractions”. I’ll wear a poppy – and contribute the minimum – in honour of the menfolk of our families who served honourably – but I’m looking elsewhere for serious donations.

15. When in Rome.. Most charities or organizations are beholding to overarching leftist control.. Much like the Boy Scouts renting space at the local school.. Tax free status.. Its a ecosystem onto itself.. None of them are in a position to go it alone without kissing the ring..

    When the landlord says the rent agreement requires that you mow the lawn.. You mow the lawn..
