Townhall- ‘A Ticking Time Bomb’: Florida Home That Survived Hurricane Burns to the Ground From EV

The lithium batteries are not only catching fire but are proving to be a nightmare to put out, burning at extremely high temperatures and often reigniting several times. As state fire marshal, Patronis is asking for “immediate guidance” from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and help directly from the car manufacturers.

    1. What do you think the used electric vehicle market is going to look like? …

Asking for the Suckers who buy the electric toys and there are lots of them.

      1. There will be no used electric vehicle market because there’s no real new electric vehicle market. Any product subsidized by the taxpayers and aimed at the self-righteous, the credulous and the woke will never have an actual market in the true sense.

      2. There is no market, they know this. The same for used hybrids which have been around for 20 years. The batteries alone cost 10 to 20 thousand dollars to replace after 6 or 7 years. Uneducated gangreen people who buy used hybrids and EVs soon find out the batteries have little capacity remaining and cost a fortune to replace. Again a feature, not a bug.

A waitress at the restaurant last month was virtue signalling to us about her EV she had on order; not realizing she was talking to a bunch of electrical and controls guys. We soon dismantled her hopes and expectations. I can have a small, compact gas engine car for well over 10 years and still save more than 100k versus an EV.

        1. Bullshit on the used hybrid market …. I have had two … the first is a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid that I bot used coming off lease in 2012 for 1/2 price = 18,000 bucks … my daughter is still driving it 140,000 problem free kilometres later.
The metal hydride battery is still good.
In 2019 I bot a 2015 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid. It was 33,000 bucks for a 70,000 new vehicle. Goes like stink with 370 HP and has all wheel drive with an electric motor on both rear wheels. I get 38 mpg going from Calgary to my condo on the ski hill in Fernie. This one has a Li ion battery but again no problems.
Hybrid batteries lead a very sheltered life and are very durable because they never go lower than about 50% charge and never charge above about 80%.
Last I checked the first Toyota Prius hybrids had a battery failure rate of a about 2.75 % after over 20 years of service.
Early Leaf batteries were a problem … especially in hot places in the US …. Tesla batteries seem to be not failing at a high rate but it is tough to get good data on Teslas since Tesla won’t tell you and Tesla owners lie.
Rich Rebuilds has good info and he refurbished his latest Tesla battery for under 7,000 US https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfV0_wbjG8KJADuZT2ct4SA

        2. “There is no market, they know this. ”

Absolutely correct, the pseudo market is created by government meddling from the start to the end. Subsidies, taxes etc at every stage are all aimed at pushing people first into hybrids (all of them are shit) then into EVs (again all are shit) and eventually into publik transport. They never wanted the EVs to work, they just wanted to force people to use the unusable thus to restrict their mobility.

My current ICE car, V6 no turbo, I bought new two years ago will last me long after the state mandates closing of all gas stations (which will be before either the country implodes or I move).

        3. I know a single soccer mom with three kids driving a 12 year old minivan with a cracked windshield who brags about the Tesla she has on back order. There’s no cure for stupid.

  1. Much like the jab, there is only up-side, no down-side. This is my tax dollar hard at work. Utopia is achievable when you ignore reality.

    1. If you buy an EV … and don’t like it, or want to report problems with it … you will be canceled! There can be NO NEGATIVE feedback about EV’s. If you offer any … you’ll be labeled a domestic terrorist and sent to the social media gulag.

  2. Expect a page to be added to every EV owner’s manual titled – Don’t Panic…it’s Just a Thermal Runaway

    1. … and teach all owners where the mechanical door release latch is located … and not to panic in their smoke-filled cabin.

  3. As with everything supposed green, in the end it turns to shit…every Rotten bit of their narrative – SHIT 100%

  4. You want to piss off an EV owner/worshiper?
Tell them they drive or want to drive a battery car, not an “electric car”…technically, the electricity comes from the battery so DC, direct current, not AC, alternating current.
For me and many others, to call it a “battery car” diminishes it’s seriousness down to toyish, recreational status, like a golf cart.

    1. They’re ALL glorified golf carts … good for 18 holes … little more. And from my personal observation? Now we know how many holes it takes to fill the Tesla waiting list … I saw the news today, oh boy … about a lucky Tesla that made the grave … and though the news was rather sad … I just had to laugh

  5. Waiting on the first big chain reaction accident / pile up on the highway.. That’s going to be biggest chain reaction fire you ever seen..
IMAGINE.. 10 cars in a crash with a 3 mile traffic jam fuse behind it.. The energy release of 10 electric cars bursting into flames could start a chain reaction with so many other electric cars close by..

Are we really ready for prime time.. Fog or winter.. We have all seen or heard of the 100 car pile up.. How much time do you have before all that energy cremates you?

I’m sure the green psychopaths have factored this in :).. Seeing as they want you dead anyway..

    1. I would consider getting just close enough to get nice tan …. winters are long in Canada.

    2. But, but, but … ICE cars have more fires … you know … with all that toxic oil and gasoline everywhere. Battery cars are clean and pristine. They’re perfect! Just like the holes who drive them. EV fires are holy pyres to “science”

  6. Ah, the smell of Karma in the morning, (Cue Ride of the Valkyries). Next on the list of Hurricane preps – Park the Tesla at least 10 feet from the house and hop in the Diesel SUV/CrewCab with all of your valuables so you have the range to outrun the storm. I wonder if this is like a self inflicted wound, will the insurance companies cover something that you knew would happen, its like setting fire to your own house, is that covered? Much like that guy in France who died from Covid Injection side effects, the court declared it a suicide since he knew it was on of the possible side effects of the injection. This could get interesting – might need popcorn.

    1. I expect that the government will force insurance companies to insure the EVs anyway, much like they did with housing in hurricane and flood zones.

  7. Gas is safer form of energy.. Its lighter, more compact and requires a spark catalyst to release its energy.. Electric is heavier, larger and already burning.. No catalyst required.. No contest where safety is concerned..

Electric vehicles have a weight problem from batteries and a range fetish.. They just cant pack in enough burning electricity fast enough to compete with gas powered vehicles.. Fueling your car with flames..

    1. Oil and gas and wood and coal are all cheap and reliable stores of energy. They are directly responsible for our modern civilization.

Gangreen technology are not cheap nor are they reliable stores of energy. Therefore they will be the downfall of our civilization.

      1. The pursuit of EVERY “green” form of energy and locomotion is built on half truths and outright LIES. Like the “rated capacity” of EVERY solar or wind devastation. The ACTUAL electric output is always a tiny fraction of the nameplate. Read: FRAUD. Fossil fuel and Nuclear? Essentially 100% of rated capacity. And the ON/OFF switch works 24/7
