Fresh record high prices for 🇩🇪 and 🇫🇷 electricity:
German 1-year forward: €725 per MWh
French 1-year forward: €870 per MWhThe 2010-2020 average was around €41 per MWh
Russian energy weapon; French nuclear crisis; low wind production. Drought-hit hydro.
If it wasn’t for bad luck: Days after Russian state-owned energy Gazprom announced that it was temporarily halting its main natural gas pipeline to Europe (Nord Stream 1), another gas pipeline — this time the one that brings gas from the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan via Russia — has gone out of operation “due to damage.”

A random Twitter post from a homeowner in Germany expects the gas bill to heat his house will rise from 4500 Euros to 14,500 Euros. He’s hired a consultant to figure out how to shut off the heat to various rooms in his house.
If only Quebec had natural gas, we’d be heroes.
That was my first thought. Give the liberals time though, they’ll come up with a plan to make Quebec the NG capital of Canada at the rest of the country’s expense. And Cantards will stand around with their thumbs up their asses saying ‘we’ll I guess if if it saves the country it’s worth it’.
Quebec likely does have natural gas in parts of the St Lawrence valley, but their anti-Alberta, anti-oil&gas governments have embargoed it.
Sexton, They’re not anti oil and gas!
They’re anti us using it, and burning up valuable resources, they wish to preserve for themselves in the future.
They are anti Alberta and anywhere west of Ontario though, so you are half right.
There wont’ be many people left …. but eventually the world will be safe from conservative vaues … now eat your insects and be happy.
This winter,Line 5 needs to be shut down..
For “Safety” concerns.
Those rail line crossing Canada East/West they look pretty ratty and unsafe..better shut them down for prolonged inspection as they cross the prairies..If it saves one life..
Truckers moving freight East ,need to charge rates that cover the corruption risks to their business.
And tradesmen might consider taking a holiday.
The new asymmetric warfare,is just like the old asymmetric warfare, which is almost identical to “Federal government help”.
This could be the last year of the existence of the EU. The unrest is going to be historic. Looks like Russia hasn’t lost its ability to play chess.
The Germans, and others, brought this on themselves through their own insufferable smugness and stupidity. Why should we bail them out?
Overheard in Stephenville:
“Wouldn’t you guys rather buy some hydrogen nobody uses?”
” – Oh HELL yeah! Just think of the virtue signalling – ” [ – Trudeau joins-in – ] “- IT’S GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!”
I didn’t know the Germans had a hydrogen-burning electricity plant sitting on idle. I went to face-palm and missed.
And meanwhile, Putin and Lavrov are laughing like Beavis and Butthead.
Oddly, I’m not sure why the french are suffering from high electricity prices given that roughly 70% of it’s electrical power comes from nuclear, which should be immune to hydrocarbon fuel price increases…
I’m sure the government is the cause though.
I could be wrong, but I read that France has or is in the process of shutting down 3 of its nuclear power plants.
On the plus side, you can live anywhere in France, it is all beautiful.
certainly not the cloudy midlands east of paris.
This plot shows French nuclear plant capacity.

My understanding is a lot of French nuclear plants are shut-in for essential repairs and maintenance.
What’s the over/under for Russia stopping all natural gas exports on the first snowfall in December?
I will bet you 2 English beers (pints) that Italy or Germany strikes a deal with Russia before December 01, 2022.
There has been an anti-fracking / exploration campaign in Europe for 20 years resulting in non-utilized resources. If developed these resources could power Britain/ Europe for the near future but their eco radicals have shut that down. Get rid of the ecofascists and the problem can be resolved by adults.
And hydrogen when burned produces H2O,water vapour which is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. (don’t tell Trudeau)
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner
Exterminate the ecofascists and the entire scam ends. We don’t have a climate change problem, we have a trash problem – envirotrash.
But don’t shut down rail oil shipments through Lac Megantic .
We need to burn a few more Frenchies.
Canada’s allies have finally figured out what western Canadians have known for years – that the Trudeau Liberal government are callous, cruel morons who pursue policies that cause maximum personal and economic damage. The only thing the Trudeau Liberal government (and NDP allies) give a shit about is Quebec and kickbacks. Obviously, the European leader’s opening bid was insufficient… a sufficient “business case” must be the new euphemism for old political personal enrichment schemes.
Germany is looking to Canada for energy and minerals.
Good luck with that considering the impossible regulations to do anything here.
But then, just saying that you will help is all that is needed to virtue signal nowadays, no real actions involved.
Minerals? That requires mining. Justin’s gang greens will protest, launch law suits, until the companies give up.
And the gang greens have mapped out a strategy with endless law suits to delay, delay, delay.
Haven’t we sold all to China?
The Spawn-Fuhrer must have conferred with Butts to come up with an acceptable solution to Germany’s energy suicide that didn’t involve western energy, or direct sale of fossil fuels. That the project will consume more energy from fossil fuels indirectly over its life cycle than any energy delivered is the dirty little secret of innumeracy that the Reich and its propaganda Ministries and media depend on. Germany is addicted to the Greenpeace beverage with the Jimmy Jones endorsement label. The staged orgy of rent seekers and virtue signalers in Newfoundland where they would do anything for any industry needed better videography than the CBC. Where is Leni Riefenstahl when a Fuhrer meeting calls.
Justin’s hydrogen ‘agreement’ is non-binding. It’s lighter than air. It’s lighter than hydrogen.
It’s designed to make Justin look good with a compliant media.

What he said.
There’s natural gas in Quebec. Part of the utica shale.

Attempting and not succeeding.

The problem with Quebec gas is Quebec electricity. They are all-in on hydro-electric.
President Trump warned them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfJv9QYrlwg
What did President Biden do? F. Joe Biden removed the sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Biden enables Europe’s Russian Gas addiction.
What did Germany do? They laughed, they pretended not to understand, they buried their heads in the sand.

President Trump was Crystal Clear:

French 1-year forward: €870 per MWh
Good God. My French rellies are screwed.
Regarding the green hydrogen project in Stephenville, which will take 3 years to get into production …
https://iaac-aeic.gc.ca/050/evaluations/proj/80169
The link is to the Marathon Gold Valentine Gold Mine (not too far away from Stephenville) which is proposed to go into production “soon”. They submitted their environmental assessment in April 2019. It was approved 2 days ago. That means over 3 years just to get the environmental assessment approved, not including the time it took to perform the assessment. Initial environmental work started in 2010.
So why does it take 12 years to permit a mine (it’s not even permitted yet) and only 3 years to build a hydrogen processing facility with 168 wind turbines? Because Canadians hate mining! And oil & gas.
Sit back and watch the train wreck.
Eco-scammers, smug Eurocrats, desperate consumers who once relied solely on Russian energy – karma has come for them all.
So to put that in context, my power bills (British Columbia) work out to 15 Canuck cents per kilowatt-hour. 800 euros per MWH is about $1.00 CDN per kWh, given current exchange rates. Governments have a tendency to tax “expensive” things so our European brethren will likely be paying eight or ten times as much for electricity as Canadians.
Juthtin’s daddy wanted “World” prices for oil in Canada. It’s likely Juthtin will want us to do something similar with electricity.
Oh joy.
Quebec is saying yes, yes, yes to world prices for electricity.
Quebec should be given what they want.
The ROC, on the other hand, should fire up every coal and nuclear plant they can, and sell electricity cheap to attract businesses who leave Quebec.
It’s win-win, really.
Why not build an LNG plant in Thunder Bay. It’s on the SL Seaway and ocean going ships tie up there. A pipeline to Thunder Bay makes sense because they already have a corridor.
You could commission the building of a coupla ice breakers at the same time you start building the plant and pipeline. Quebek can build one and Fishworld could build one as well. Everybody wins.
If BC complains build Northern Gateway.
Huge economic benefits for the country.
abtrapper,
It has to be a huge economic benefit for the liberal government, not the country. It’s not whats in it for Canada collectively, but what’s in it for liberals and their cronies, selectively.
Why not? Because it makes sense.
Buy shares in companies that make sweaters and coats.
There is more heat energy in the first five kilometers of earth’s crust that we could ever hope to use. Wells drilled to five kilometers can produce recirculated water at 80 degrees celcius nearly anywhere in the world.
Most likely there are buildings in your town that do just that, but they keep it a secret. Don’t want the plebs to find out.
Eventually, someone will figure out that geothermal energy accelerates the warming of the atmosphere, and then there will be protests about that too. Even though the factor of acceleration is vanishingly small. That’s the way the warmists operate. It doesn’t have to be logical.
So how is “hydogen” produced?
