As I write this we learn that a transformer on the Hoover Dam has just exploded. Experts on the integrity suggest that the structure of the Hoover Dam is extremely vulnerable as Lake Mead approaches historic low levels. Maintenance is seemingly not meeting the needs as this is the lifeblood for so many in the middle of that desert. Perhaps that is by design?
The federal government continues to discuss and share plans to destroy many of the electric producing dams in the nation that not only produce electricity but also irrigation for crops. Ironically or not, that focus seems to be in CA, OR, WA and ID. So one must ask the question: As we adopt policies that increase the demand for electricity, why are we creating the greatest vulnerability in electric generation?
All I can say is the level of arrogance among the elite is so high that they are incapable of even foreseeing one potential outcome that results in a thick hemp rope around their neck.

The benefits of affordable, reliable baseload power provided by coal, natgas, hydro and nuclear far exceeds the risks of a tiny, fraction of a degree increase in temperature.
The benefits of affordable, reliable food productions with the use of fertilizer far exceed the risks of any nitrogen “pollution”.
We already see countries that are fully engulfed by social unrest due to idiotic policies of politicians. From Canadian truckers to Netherland farmers, to Sri Lanka, Panama, etc. The benefits of peace and prosperity via adequate food and affordable energy are exponentially more important than a minute bit of warming. Warming that humans can easily adapt to with the use technology. The costs of adaptation look to be much lower than the cost of mitigation.
P.S. – it’s odd how luxury items owned by the world’s VIPs like multiple mansions, super yachts and private planes are never restricted but the regular citizen’s essential food and energy supplies must become unaffordable.

Ah, the failings in our electrical infrastructure.
First of all, the tech is not comprehended by our journo/elite classes. Why talk or read about something you do not understand? They are distant physically, and mentally.
Second, when these things cook off, the people downstream tend to be unimportant, or prepared. I suspect that most readers here are prepared for power outages. Rural folks have back up generators now a days. The urban plantation people have community centers to go and do drugs and prostitution activities.
Third, the techs (electricians, engineers) do not care. Many of the seniors are caught up in ‘go woke to keep my pension’. The juniors are making money and keeping their mouth shut. Recent anecdote: new guy was a diversity hire, and paired up with a Junior. New guy had ghetto work ethic. Junior let it ride, put up with the mouth until New Guy stuck his ungloved hand into the live part of the workpiece. Just an accident. New Guy is getting new skin for twenty percent of his body. Junior gets a new partner. I get to do paperwork.

500,000 years? The prairies were under 3 km of ice about 20,000 years ago. Probably not too many beavers then for that reason.
Today much of the beaver population has been relocated (you can thank the trappers who decided that portaging was too much work). They should be considered an invasive species in many parts of the country.
In Sudbury, Ontario back in the 1990s the guy from Ducks Unlimited was shooting beavers because they screw up the water levels for the ducks. “We used to trap and release them” he started. “But they are very territorial so either the beaver is killed when you release it or it kills the beaver already living there” he admitted. “Don’t tell anyone we’re killing them because people just wouldn’t understand” he added.
But back to the woe begotten prairie farmers…
When I was working at a power plant close to the Canadian/U.S. border, we were required to do quite a bit of monitoring, sampling and testing of water flows into the U.S. to comply with water treaties.
One of the sample sites was in a small building next to a stream in full view of the border crossing. An annoying beaver stubbornly insisted on damming up the stream which messed up our elevation and flow readings. So every time we went there the dam had to be dismantled.
This border cossing, being in the middle of a sparsely populated prairie area, was never busy. One week, the U.S. border guard ambled over to the stream while I was working, chatted for a bit and said “by the way, you don’t have to worry about that beaver anymore.”
I thanked him and decided that Don’t ask, Don’t tell was the way I was handling it. Problem solved.
